We all know the type: Prolific bands who commit every loose thought, stray idea and 90-second song fragment to tape. Bands who pay no attention to little inconveniences like "release cycles" or "self-editing," and instead decide that quantity equals quality, creating a discography more labyrinthine, imposing and – ultimately – exhausting than the cast of creatures in a sci-fi novel. Here is why none of that applies to Thee Oh Sees . Because each of the dozen-plus albums they've released since 2004 are possess a distinct personality and represents a different point along the path of John [...]

Debating whether I’d attend the Paid Dues music festival on March 30th, the line-up proved too much of a draw to stay away. The idea of getting to hear new artists and those I knew and loved outweighed the con of venue choice. Changing venues a few weeks before the show filled me with naïve hope that this con would disappear altogether. With an overwhelming schedule of artists playing at overlapping times on three stages, I needed to map the day out as efficiently as possible which was aided by the Paid Dues app which allowed users to customize a [...]

After abruptly announcing an infinite hiatus during the promotion for Bleed Like Me way back in 2005, the band have done their best to make up for lost time. They’ve toured the world over, including two stops in Toronto, which is where Shirley Manson, Butch Vig and company found themselves the night before Good Friday. [...]

One of our favorite hip-hop discoveries of the past couple of years is Georgia rapper Rittz . We came across him at SXSW in 2011 and have been following his every move since. Initially a protege of Yelawolf , he has since stepped out of his shadow and is now working with Tech N9ne . His new debut record on Tech's Strange Music label is called The Life & Times Of Jonny Valiant , and is set for release on [...]

Consequence Of Sound has premiered an MP3 of The Thermals new single "The Sunset," along with a lyric video for the track. In the cold, sweeping darkness of The Thermals' upcoming LP Desperate Ground , "The Sunset" is an obvious ray of light. Like the sun itself, the song is wide, warm, and more than a little dangerous at close range. It is the story of a man with only shadows for friends and only memories for food. Like many Thermals tracks, the song is loud, catchy, and [...]

At SXSW, Entertainment Weekly took note: "They cranked up the volume past the ear-plug limit, blending shoegaze-y guitars with sweet, girlish vocals. They made [...]

In 2009 Spectrals began life as a one man band. That one man was Heckmondwike, Yorkshire resident, Louis Jones, and he played everything on his early releases himself. In 2011 Spectrals signed to Slumberland (in North America) and Wichita (for the rest of the [...]

Montezumas frontman Kristian Matsson started recording a set of rustic, gravelly-voiced tunes, ones that nodded to fellow SwedesHomesick Hank and Thomas Denver Jonsson, under the nom de soloact the Tallest Man on Earth in the early 2000s.
