still photo & edit by joe perez / shot by muggsy and koster We're up to episode 4 in our ' Do It Yourself ' vodcast series and we're going doco with a portrait of Market Hotel during its infamous "shut down" in February 2010. During a private shoot with QC last year, members of the bands Real Estate and These Are Powers along with Market Hotel pioneers, broke down the venue and its importance in the Brooklyn music community. Market Hotel served as a birthright [...]

by alex p. (pics by cam & ben for qc) Connecting with a song, artist, or city can be uniquely rewarding. Connecting with all three at once is special. The Perth Festival makes that possible through the Beck's Music Box , alluringly assembled on the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia. With a wealth of incredible artists set to grace the stage over the coming weeks, the bandshell by the The Bell Tower is set at icon status for the likes of Caribou, Jack Dejohnette, [...]
edited by muggsy Part 3 of Quiet Color's ' Do It Yourself ' video series takes us to Bushwick, Brooklyn and the living room/art gallery/Brooklyn D.I.Y. venue Fort Useless . It was a cold and gray day in NYC when we met with husband and wife Andreas Werliin and Mariam Wallentin, more aptly known as the Swedish indie duo Wildbirds and Peacedrums . What would follow was an intimate and resplendant performance that transformed Fort Useless into a warm winter sanctum. Quiet Color is blessed to have captured this private [...]
by pelly (photos by stuart sevastos ) Australia in the summer is pretty non-stop, blurry, and a sh*t load of fun. That description would fit Southbound festival in Busselton, Western Australia and it works for power duo Sleigh Bells. We caught up with Derek from the band, amidst the wild festival down under which also featured hometown favorite Tame Impala (Perth), Joan Jett, Public Enemy and The National. On the fest's final afternoon, crowds were singing along to Sleigh Bells lyrics as Derek and Alexis set it [...]
edit by joe perez Episode 2 of our Do It Yourself series is here as we continue our survey of the underground music scene in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We were fortunate to get the inside scoop on the Market Hotel shut down last year (a future episode fyi) but during the process we got Market alumns These Are Powers to rock out a private live session in the Hotel entrance. Check out the cut of "Powers Engage" - More episodes coming very very soon :)
by qc staff LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening - May 18 2010 I challenge any human with a pulse to stand still when the beat drops during the album opener "Dance Yrself Clean". The album keeps like a titled dance floor throughout. The tantalizingly long intros and intricate electrified sounds translate surprisingly well at live shows, just don't throw shit at James Murphy when he's [...]
by ryan s. Sloppy Circus from christopher mulligan on Vimeo . We at QC spent a fair chunk of our 2010 creating and producing an 8-episode video series reflecting on Brooklyn's precious D.I.Y. scene and some of the influential artists that pass through. After almost a whole year of planning and promising, the series is complete and ready for air. We'll be releasing these videos week by week over the next 2 months to give you a closer look of what we got into [...]
by pelly The 16 hour flight from L.A. to Sydney can be extremely entertaining (especially if you fly on Virgin) but after watching your third movie in a row you start thinking "this trip better be worth it" - With shows booked at the Falls Festival, Southbound, and Sunset Sounds, yank bands Sleigh Bells and The Soft Pack appear to be capitalising on their trek down under. Why do we care? Well aside from being huge fans, we'll be catching up with the bands [...]

by stew Fresh from the coast of Brazil we have an extremely smooth remix of Jesse Evan's "Scientist Of Love" produced by sayhoo! - Equally entertaining is the accompanying video, seemingly taken from an old film. Who doesn't love city shoot outs that conclude in avant-garde strip clubs. Beware the original fem bot.
by pelly Sometimes actions towards a future consequence are made on a fleeting whim or feeling, and then the potential outcome becomes reality. Such is the case with us at QC , as we will be headed down under to Australia for a stint of travel and musical experience. The journey begins tomorrow so we leave you with this (post)card temporarily while we regain our footing and internet access in a new part of earth. We'll be back with more shows and video content soon, plus a [...]
by rex hilliard The tradition continues. After the success of last year's QC Anti-CMJ party which featured break out performances by Sleigh Bells and Surfer Blood, we've decided to host a loft party throw down next Friday, 10/22 at Kisses Loft on North 6 Street in Willie B. There will be live performances by Carnivores , Dinosaur Feathers , and Sisters , plus a special secret headliner to cap off the night. Cover is a suggested $3 donation and the party will go [...]
by lonnie Hailing from Oakland, Beep! is apparently a side project of tUnE-yArDs bassist Nate Brenner. Heavy with layered piano, bass, and upbeat percussion you can hear some correlation to the tUne-yArds sound, confirmed when Merrill Garbus' voice makes a cameo at the 5-minute mark of "Wolf Pantolones." The single is an interesting and melodic battle of noise that's well worth a listen. Beep!'s album City of the Future is set for release on December 7th. You can peruse some more info [...]
by lisa Of course Bonnaroo happened some time ago, June to be exact. But this performance is so moving and emotive that I wanted it posted. There's a seamless transition from Fangela to Tunnelvision and the energy exuded during the tracks build up is inescapable. The background rumblings of "Anything Is Possible" moved me onward and upward today, just as it did on that afternoon in June.
by muggsypelly Political Activist Welch speaks of puppy dust, virgin penguins, and orphan gravel paste in hopes of warding off American Insurgents to Charley Town. "I've thought of Eskimos and cups and other things. I've thought of giraffes and other horse like creatures that come to me at night.."
by leo Shabazz Palaces (Ishmael of Diggable Planets) and Blockhead will be headlining the return of the Museum of Natural History's space age party series One Step Beyond presented by Fader next Friday October 15th. [Above you can view the video for the Shabazz Palaces track "Belhaven Meridian" shot on 35mm black & white film.] These parties are awesome and go down in The Rose Center for Earth and Space at the museum. by leo The Books are coming to Zankel at Carnegie Hall on Nov 13. Their latest album The Way Out is an audio masterpiece and the result of five years collecting VHS, cassettes, 8-tracks, etc alongside beautifully arranged strings and softly sung vocals. It's definitely one of the top albums of 2010. Their live show is also impressive complete with accompanying video assembled by the band.
