'Winter Winds' is the latest single from Mumford and Sons' splendid debut album Sigh No More . They've released a lovely little video for it. Check it out here.
Elton John's postponed gig has now been fully (and officially) cancelled. Thus there won't be a new date in December as expected. You can get a full refund on your tickets at point of purchase. Elton was meant to be playing the O2 on October 30th, but cancelled due to illness. Here's what you missed out on:
Another empty summer. There has and will be loads written and said about what happened last night. Here are some of my favourites already. Niall wrote an excellent piece on why we should take positives from last night: http://sarxos.wordpress.com/20 09/11/19/a-salute-to-the-boys- in-green/ My own epic poem on culch.ie: http://www.culch.ie/2009/11/19 /on-the-main-an-epic-tragedy-i n-six-halves/ Blathnaid encourages you to complain (without swearing) to FIFA: http://www.culch.ie/2009/11/19 /handballgate-a-nation-in-mour ning/ My favourite of the Facebook groups: http://www.facebook.com/pages/ Thierry-Henry-should-play-GAA/ 198139629574?ref=nf&v=wall Dave and Siobhan from Dublin's 98 fm [...]

This excellent recording and upload was provided by Miguel (Geckoman) of John Mayer at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York, from Monday night. (Yes, there's a bootleg out there already). Thanks so much to Miguel for this, and to Lenny for the oh-so-fantastic cover art. John plays a lot of material from the new album Battle Studies , and you can download a sample mp3 of 'Who Says' live in NYC below, before downloading the full .zip file. John Mayer Music Hall of Williamsburg Brooklyn, New York City, NY November 16, 2009 [...]

Beach House are another band who have announced a 2010 album. But their 2010 album has already leaked to the internet in 2009. I haven't heard it myself, but people are telling me that Teen Dream is their best and most consistent record yet. So it'll be great when it actually does come out properly on January 26th (that's the same date as the Magnetic Fields, below). For those of you sticking on the legal side of things, you can download an mp3 of 'Norway' below. Tracklist: 01. Zebra 02. Silver Soul 03. Norway 04. Walk [...]

Following on from their excellent Distortion , The Magnetic Fields are set to drop Realism in early 2010. It'll come out on January 26th and should be excellent. Nonesuch had this to say about the record: "The follow-up to 2008's Distortion finds Stephin Merritt drawing inspiration from late 1960s / early 70s orchestral and psychedelic folk for an all-acoustic set." Nice! Tracklist: 01 "You Must Be Out of Your Mind" 02 "Interlude" 03 "We Are Having A Hootenanny" 04 "I Don't Know What To Say" 05 "The Dolls' Tea Party" 06 "Everything Is One Big [...]

Yet another list from a UK Music Magazine. NME always prided itself on being the cool UK Magazine, well since it changed its name from New Musical Express , and since Melody Maker disappeared along with Cliff Richard's shadows. So what's their list of the Best albums of the decade like? Keep reading. 50. MIA - Arular 49. Muse - Absolution 48. Walkmen - Bows and Arrows 47. Brendan Benson - Lapalco 46. Delgados - The Great Eastern This list starts so much better than many others. It's great to [...]

It's that time again, the lights are on in Dublin, A Christmas Carol is on in the cinema, Richard Hammond is advertising crap on TV, and Marks and Spencers think we associate a girl in knickers with Christmas. Red and white knickers and a long white beard maybe, but not the one in their ads. It's also time for the Very Most to release their final seasonal EP, Winter . You can stream it entirely at Indiecater Records, and then buy it for 2 euro. 2. Two! Bargain! Also, you can download a [...]
Yet another Jack White project planned for 2010. He already is intending a second Dead Weather album and a new White Stripes record, Jack is also going to produce another album from a legend. He produced Loretta Lynn's stunning Van Lear Rose back in 2004, and will now be producing Wanda Jackson's new album. Here is what Jackson had to say about working with White: "They had a super album, but he didn't have her do anything different. She just did her little Loretta Lynn songs. But he told me he's gonna stretch me some, so [...]
The Hold Steady are known for putting on great live shows. I haven't been able to get my hands on a bootleg from any of their Irish gigs (they played Dublin's Academy a few times), but here's the closest I could get, from Manchester's venue of the same name. Academy 2 on February 26th, 2008. Setlist: 01. Hornets! Hornets! 02. Stuck Between Stations 03. Banging Camp 04. Chips Ahoy! 05. Massive Nights 06. Party Pit 07. Constructive Summer 08. Multitude of Casualties 09. Stevie Nix 10. You Can Make Him Like You 11. Cattle and the Creeping Things [...]
Stage Invasions, Deadlock, Vanilla Ice, Pineapples, this week's X Factor had it all. Especially the bloody deadlock. Six weeks in, five deadlocks. It's getting bloody ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as that stupid noise when it goes to Deadlock. It's not tense the fecking fifth time! Anyhow, on with the show review. This week was Queen Week, so Brian May and Roger Taylor were celebrity mentors (yay! The mentors are back). So every song was a cover of a Queen song. Well, except one. But if Simon can bend the rules, certainly Louis can too! (Oh and I predicted [...]

Cat Stevens has long been a divisive fellow. From his name change to Yusuf Islam and his conversion to a different religion, he's always gotten strange gasps from even his most ardent followers. Last night at the O2 in Dublin was no different. It was definitely one of those "you had to be there" moments. Billed as Yusuf/Cat's first ever live performance in Ireland, it half lived up to the billing. To sum up what happened (how can you really sum up what happened?), Yusuf Islam performed for around twenty minutes acoustically, then introduced his band, and played [...]
Everybody! Backstreet's Back in Dublin. Well they were, for one night only. Backstreet Boys played Dublin's O2 Arena (formerly the Point Theatre) on Friday night, and went down a storm! They visited Ireland as part of their European This Is Us tour. Setlist: 1. Backstreet's Back 2. We've got it Going on 3. PDA 4. Quit playing games 5. As long as you love me 6. This is us 7. Show me the meaning 8. All I have to Give 9. She's A Dream 10.I'll never break your heart 11.The Call 12.The One 13.Bigger 14.Shape of [...]

Peter Gabriel always seems to have some sort of project on the go. This time it's a compilation of covers that will be his first proper album in seven years. What makes it special is the fact that everyone Gabriel covers here will be returning the favour and covering one of his tracks on the follow up to Scratch My Back , which is most likely going to be called I'll Scratch Yours . The album is due to be released on January 25th 2010. Composer John Metcalfe tells the BBC that the album will [...]

Falling Down a Mountain will be the eight album from Tindersticks. There's two release dates floating around, one is the US release: February 16th 2010, and the other is the UK one: January 25th. No idea why the gap is - that'll just lead to downloading in my opinion. I was introduced to these guys only last year, and I'm catching up on their back catalogue at the moment. So new material will mean I'll have even more to listen to. Great! You can download an mp3 of the album track 'Black Smoke' below. Tracklist: [...]

Frightened Rabbit have announced details of a new album, set for March 2010. Lead single 'Swim Until You Can't See Land' will be out on Monday, but hopefully they'll play some more of these new songs when they support Modest Mouse at the Academy on the 7th and 8th of December. Those are going to be fantastic gigs. Tracklist: 1. 'Things' 2. 'Swim Until You Can't See Land' 3. 'The Loneliness & The Scream' 4. 'The Wrestle' 5. 'Skip The Youth' 6. 'Nothing Like You' 7. 'Man/ Bag [...]
