MODEST MOUSE Live In Charlottesville 6/29/08

MODEST MOUSE Live In Charlottesville 6/29/08 Tom Peloso finally made it back home in one piece, and this time he brought his band back with him. I had spent the weekend up in the mountains visiting with friends and family around Mike Billing's family pool and hot tub, and we even had enough time to record a new song called FADE FROM ME. Slices of Pizza were had by all, and many beers were drank, which had chipped away at my stamina come Sunday evening, when it was time to head back home. We stopped in Charlottesville to have a quick walkabout through the Downtown [...]

BECK-MODERN GUILT

BECK-MODERN GUILT Beck is a Modern-Day Enigma Wrapped Up In A Mystery. I am sure this extremely talented fellow had been bitten by the Curmudgeon Bug long ago, but it seems he has finally developed a full-blown case of chronic depression. Pick up his rotted, fly ridden, sucked-bone-dry shell of a former being and chuck it into the same PITY PARTY corner where other dinosaurs like Radiohead and Oldplay reside. Leave it to another case of Consumer Expectation gone horribly wrong, I mean when I heard that our favorite Hipster was combing efforts with DANGER MOUSE, (Veteran of Gnarls Barkley, SparkleHorse and [...]

Taking The Big Leak In Stride.

Taking The Big Leak In Stride. I remember way back in 1990, when under some rather devious circumstances on Kyle and My part, we ended up with a copy of Public Enemy's FEAR OF A BLACK PLANET . Sure, we loved the band and had a copy of the TERRORDOME cassingle, and was all caught up in the controversy concerning Chuck D. telling the Rabbis to get off of the rag, and comparing himself to Jesus being Crucified; but Hell, we had been hearing that from Bono for several years... Now we had some HOT property; a highly anticipated new release in our hands a [...]

The Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg.

The year was 1981, and The Clash were on a roll, but already some cracks were appearing in the verneer. Tensions in the band were beginning to wear the band down as well as drummer Topper Headon's 100 pound a day heroin habit. The good news was that even though their three album set SANDINISTA! was greeted with mixed reviews, they had finally broke wide open in the U.S. after a triumphant series of sold out shows at Bonds Theater in NYC (which resulted in Beatlemania type riots) and with release of THE MAGNIFICIENT SEVEN single, which dominated R&B airwaves [...]

The State of Disunion.

The State of Disunion. This Is The Year That It Finally All Went To Hell For The Majority Of The Peoples Of This Little Blue Smudge We Call Terra Firma. Yes, My Doritos, This Is The Period In Time Where Some Of Us Went From Living On Easy Street To Barely Living At All. This Year Is Forever Going To Be Known As ANUS HORRIBLUS; The Year Where THE SHIT-HAMMER Finally Came Down Upon Our Collective Skulls. This Is The Moment Of Time NOSTRILDAMMIT Predicted 500 Years Ago By Staring Into His Little Toilet Bowl Of Prognostication After Ingesting Various Mind-Rotting Chemicals. These Are [...]

... Went From Smoking Base To Playing Bass (And Back Again...)

... Went From Smoking Base To Playing Bass (And Back Again...) Next weekend brings about the fact that I have to strap on the bass guitar and play an actual real live rock and roll show. Of course I am still In the throes of writing songs for a new album called SPACE BAR, but also on the side I have been playing IGGY POP AND THE STOOGES songs with a band yet to be named; but for now we will just call us THE CHOOCHES. The band consists of some folks I have played with before. REPETE is not only one of my best friends, but we [...]

TEN REASONS WHY MICHAEL BILLINGS LORDS OVER ALL.

TEN REASONS WHY MICHAEL BILLINGS LORDS OVER ALL. Sunday brings about the birthday of my dear friend and band mate Mike. He sounds like he's a little bummed about hitting the big FOUR ZERO, but I say to him that age is only a state of mind... Hell, I feel eleventy-two over half of the time I spend here on this ruinious marble. He is one of my brothas, and I wish him the MOST FUNNEST BIRTHWEEKEND EVER. Hopefully we will make it up to the hills to be there for the festivities. Also settling scores and punching in the Birthday card on that day are UNCLE EVIL [...]

OLD PHOTOS COME BACK TO HAUNT LOCAL MAN.

There are a mysterious amount of old photographs from days long ago that are now circulating throughout the world wide web these days, and I am not sure how to handle it. Oh, the Scandal of seeing such wretched circumstances as having shiners and stickers slapped to the side of my face!!! Yes, I barely remember these days, but I can tell you now that by seeing those snapshots I can deduce the fact that I was having some fun. This picture is with by buddy TOM. We are sitting in what was my bedroom in 1990, [...]

2 NEW SONGS ADDED TO OUR NEW ALBUM; SPACE BAR.

2 NEW SONGS ADDED TO OUR NEW ALBUM; SPACE BAR. What turned out to be a completely unexpected trip to Waynesboro last weekend ended up a productive session full of 80's music and two or three new songs for our newest offering SPACE BAR. Mike and I did something we hadn't attempted in a while, which was sitting down together and coming up with a collaboration that soon ended up being IT HURT LIKE A SUVOVABITCH; which is a return to our comedic roots after the general seriousness of STOOPID HOLIDAYS back in December. The song is sort of bluesy, or jazz shuffled, with some lyrics that are quasi-autobiographical... [...]

CASHCROPMUSIC UPDATE; APRIL 2008 Howdy, and Welcome to The Cashcropmusic April Update for 2008!!! Gears are grinding and Butter is churning here at our humble establishment, and we are slowly waking up to return to our never-ending chore of cranking out new music. Once again we would like to thank NITRONIC for sending us his musical songs from the West Coast!!! Be sure to check out his pages for more of his awesome tunes!!! Kelley Frushour has posted some photos from high school, the CRIB, and from 708 Albemarle to her myspace [...]

BASIC CITY BULLETS.

BASIC CITY BULLETS. Waynesboro has finally made the National news after a long drought. No, Tim Spears did not record another song about NASCAR, nor are The Findells and Dosed doing a Tour together, nor did Pee BucketHead Moss sell another of her gawd-awful Amish paintings. We have GANGSTERS!!!???!!! Of course we knew that all along, us Eastside Folk. I often called the I-64 Corridor going westward from Charlottesville to Waynesboro as THE TRAIL OF TEARS; that stretch of road from Civilization back to Hooterville often travailed in the early morning hours after some especially intense "Civilizing", [...]

Ranticle; Madonna Bows Out Of The Bopst Show.

Ranticle; Madonna Bows Out Of The Bopst Show. First of all, a big hello to all of you after giving the Blogs a rest for a week or so. I have been out of commission; a IHAITUS if you will. I just haven't been inspired these days. I have been hit hard by the resession and by frusrtration after joining the droves of folks who are unemployed. House building is at a 14 year low, and unemployment is at a 5 year high; and I am somewhere in the middle ready to resort to Male Prostitution!!! Construction has beaten me up; I have a torn hamstring, and I [...]
