What would you call a match made in heaven? Over the past few days while experiencing some amazing weather, I have been enjoying some females outfits, some of the skirts on some amazing legs have just kept me wanting this weather to never end. When it comes to the Australian music scene there is nothing hotter than the Modular family, and as most of you would know their little brother is the Bang Gang 12 Inches label. Predominantly dealing with electro, over the past 12 months we have been treated to some [...]
For the past few weeks Redial has been working on his IV EP and is coming up with some amazing results. Over the past few years he has been releasing some pretty amazing and hard tracks, but now it is time for him to mature as a producer and add some lyrics to his tracks. For his latest track Let Me Go he has Nik Valentino on lyrical duties. Just a quick warning for all you fans and haters out there of Redial, this track is a bit different to what we usually expect. While [...]
The Paper Route Gangstaz are one of the hottest things to come out of the South of America at the moment, with tremendous support from Diplo and his Label Mad Decent, they are making waves throughout the world. “This ain’t just regional music,” states Mata. “We make music for all people whether you’re in London or Brazil. We feel that we have a worldwide sound. We’re about having fun and living life. That’s what everyone is trying to do and that’s the type of music they want to hear.” A full-length album is due [...]

Hey guys, Quick update about the blog party, so the venue has been locked in at Moulin Rouge downunder in Kings Cross, for November 13. Over the next two weeks while the flyer is being made, I'll be doing quick updates about the party, mainly the djs playing as well as the blogs who are supporting it. For the mean time here is Mat Cant & Nick Thayer 's latest remix with the legendary AC Slater ! Note two out of the three artists who remixed this track will be playing at the blog [...]

What cannot be said about Boonie? He is one of the most down to earth Djs in Sydney, rather than having unrealistic goals of world domination at such a young age, he has been slowing plotting away since his FBI underage set win in 2006. He slowly started building a reputation of a DJ with a broad music knowledge compared to his collegues. His knowledge has always been more advanced than the hypem top 50 popular pages, tracks you will find on mainstream blogs and the same shit you hear every week in clubs. It was this [...]

Dandy (from ‘Digital Marae’ series) 2007 When I went to the Art Gallery of New South Wales I came across these amazing portraits by Lisa Reihana. She is a Maori artist who explores her background's mythology and contemporary culture through her work, shown by the juxtapositions forever present and the bi-cultural living in a postmodernist representation. She appropriates important oral histories and customary lore, communicating them to a wider audience, making them available to a collective Aotearoa New Zealand consciousness through their contemporary presentation With Dandy , Reihana imagines first encounters [...]

Photo: Hobo Gestapo I haven't blogged in a while, so there's a massive buildup of tracks I wanna share. Here are some tunes I've really been loving at the moment... De Bos - On The Run (Ralvero Get Down Remix) Wolfmother - New Moon Rising (Riton Club Rub) Headman - Dirt (The C90s Remix) Sticky K - The Weirdo Also, another brilliant installment [...]

The idea behind this party is to get a group of the most influential blogs in Sydney together and to throw a party. Each blog will be represented by a DJ and will play music based on the style that they promote daily and a headlining act who has a big presence in the Australian blogging scene. The genres of music will be everything from Nudisco at the start of the night, building towards some Dutch and French house music, climaxing at a blend of fidget, Baltimore, a mix of classic party anthems and a bunch of bootlegs that one [...]

I found a ripped out page from the the(sydney)magazine on my floor – I vaguely remember ripping it out so I could tell you about a small little feature they had on ‘a local blackboard artist’… blackboard artist? I’ve never really heard of this title but the moment I read the words the moment it made sense to me. I know, work on blackboards may not seem like pieces of art to you, sometimes they go unnoticed for artistic merit, but there are some out there that are done so beautifully its hard not to be impressed. Now [...]

Last Friday evening I had the privilege of hanging out with Steve Lind from The Hump Day Project and learning how to use ableton and as a result remixing a track. It was a rather interesting experience on an almost daily basis for the past 18 months I have been writing about the tracks people make but never had the privilege of seeing all the effort that goes in behind the scenes, and the little details that go into to complete the track. I got there and he had already started a little bootleg of His Majesty Andre's track [...]

Opinion time: I’ve got a semi-problem with Carles /internet-meme/ blogger of Hipster Runoff producing and selling a line of t-shirts with the slogan ‘I Am Carles’ on them. If you read or know anything about Hipster Runoff, you will know that Carles basically just pays out everyone and anything in popular culture; from fashion and music to the latest social or political issues. His intellectual comments and wit are hidden under the guise of being a tosser; there is a seemingly subversive subtext to the majority of his pieces that gets you to question the [...]

Photo: Hobogestapo Club Rub is back bigger than ever, after a successful launch with the amazing Bag Raiders, it is being followed up with an even bigger party with Gus Da Hoodrat of Bang Gang! Here is a nifty little bio I found on inthemix about Bang Gang: The Bang Gang DJ posse has quite a lot to answer for. They’ve – almost single-handedly – influenced an entire generation of club kids with their music tastes, fashion sense and attitude towards partying. Hell, their famously debaucherous weekly party even [...]

The labels first EP has gone live on Beatport and Itunes with original tracks by Wax Motif, Blaze Tripp, Tom Piper, Redial as well as a follow up Chico EP by Danny T coming out this Saturday with a bunch of new remixes including The Hump Day Project's. There is also brand new remixes of stop the noise coming from Stereokillers, Kazey & Bulldog and more! They have the right idea going, getting a bunch of extremely talented and diverse Australian producers and giving them a way of being able to have freedom on releasing what ever the [...]

Photo: Hobogestapo I have my hands on the latest release in the series of free releases by the Troublemakers, the latest one is by Zug Zug called Lotus. They’ve been described as the bongo kings of Troublemakers in the past and, combining the talents of Marky Mark and the Hump Day Project’s 1 Man Army, Zug Zug have cooked up a clicky, beepy, shaky tune with a great fun summery feel and just the right amount of bass rumble to work a dancefloor into a lather. ♪ Zug Zug [...]

Teo probably has no idea about this, but he was the guy who influenced and shaped how I stylistically approach my art till this very day. His work encompasses no glorified framed paintings on expensive canvasses, instead; intricate sketches that make use of white space and the beautiful medium that is water colours. I don’t actually remember why, but Teo used to come into our Visual Art classes at school in Year 11, 2006. I remember being absolutely in awe of this little sketchbook/visual diary he owned which was filled with different paper stock that he had sewn together and [...]
Hey there boys and girls, I know its not Wednesday yet but after seeing this video I couldn't resist posting it. Its a video that was put together of Hey Now live at the Metro on Friday the 4th of September when they were supporting Grafton Primary, this just goes to show the incredible support that they have been building up and the chemistry that they build with the crowd A comment was left on the blog early Saturday morning about their performance, ""Saw Hey Now DJ's at Grafton Primary [...]

Photo: Hobogestapo Last month was a pretty pathetic month when it came to blogging here on Deckhead, there were a few DMCA notifications and not enough blogging from our end. The only sure thing that you could count on were the amazing weekly posts by our new favorite writer Alyssa, some of the things she wrote about had me wanting to research more about the topic, everything from graffiti to type anatomy and each week she would feature a different artist. Kudos! Time for two harder tracks that I am really feeling at [...]

Mike Chavez aka Migs is a bit of an enigma; I had some trouble finding information about him and his work. What I did find out is that Migs is a Melbourne based artist who used to work as an illustrator for Disney, Dreamworks and Warner Brothers but now is a solo artist exploring aspects of post modernism and his Filipino ancestry. In an attempt to find out more I recently e-mailed Migs asking him about the nature of his upcoming exhibition: GHETTO SUPERSTAR. On initial viewing the show looks like a superficial, borderline pornographic*, exploitation of [...]

I am lost for inspiration at the moment, the fact that it is Thursday usually puts me in a jolly mood, but the fact that I have to work a whole day tomorrow before my weekend starts, now that sucks. In my state of boredom I have invented a new game to help me with my blog posts, its called the Itunes Shuffle. I am going to put on my itunes play a song and hit next, that track and the following four tracks will be blogged, it does not matter about the genre or potentially how embarrassing the song [...]
