It would appear the current trend in music editorial is predicting the latest big thing. I guess there are plenty of kudos points on offer if you get it right, plus its a fairly risk free activity as no one is likely to remember that obscure name you touted that eventually amounted to very little. The latest established source of new music to nail their 2013 predictions on the mast is Pete Tong's 'Essential Mix'. Part one last week put forward Perseus and Jonas and this week is the turn of Duke Dumont. [...]

We've had this on repeat in the BBB office for the last few days, and have now finally found a bit of time to share our latest find. Jacques Greene is one of those electronic artists that has music at the core of everything he does, and while his tracks are very much club relevant you never get the feeling that is their soul purpose. You only have to see the palpable euphoria that 'Arrows' causes to know that subtlety and musical dexterity can often out weigh even the heaviest kick drum. [...]

Apparat aka Sascha Ring has announced the imminent arrival of a new LP 'Krieg und Frieden'. Krieg und Frieden or Music for Theatre is based around his recent composition for the theatre production of Tolstoy’s War and Peace. The album is due to drop Feb 19th and is set to be a moving and emotional record if 'Violent Sky' is an accurate representation of what to expect. If we could music write music this good we certainly wouldnt be giving it away, highly recommended if you like hauntingly reflective vocals and piano's.

Blacksmif aka Londonʼs kaleidoscopic Yemi Olagbaiye stepped from the shadows in 2012 with his enthralling original 12” ʻ Hoop Dreams / Microweight ʼ, gathering heavyweight support along the way from, Laurent Garnier, Ben Westbeech aka Breach, South London Ordnance, Mary Anne Hobbs and Audiojack to name a few. Not to mention an increasingly busy calendar, which notably included performances at Glade, and Dimensions. OUT Jan 28th – Ltd Vinyl, includes free MP3 Versions via the BBB Surus Store Also available Digitally and on Vinyl from all other online retailers: iTunes // Beatport // Boomkat [...]

Pev & Kowton aka Peverelist and Kowton are up next on the ever compelling ' Hessle Audio '. The 2 track EP is due to drop February 11th and as you would expect from a Hessle signing both tracks have that 'now' distinct Hessle Sound, of stripped back incisive percussion meets heavy low end thump. Raw Code is the lighter of the two tracks, with a smooth airy quality interlocking with a discreetly sounding speed garage bassline, within what is otherwise a clanking techno track. Junked is a much more menacing claustrophobic affair that draws all [...]

Recently came across this on Phonica and despite the £15 price tag its one of those records that instantly leads you to believe that £15 for a one sided slab of vinyl is a great bargain. As all record buyers know, the draw of vinyl often makes us part with unholy amounts of cash just to grab that exclusive cut. In reality £15 is a bit ridiculous, however the music itself is a gloriously drifting wash of smooth sounds that wash over you like a warm mid summers morning. An Ideal opener for that epic mixtape you've always planned to [...]

Most of us spend the last few days of the year reflecting on what has passed, and for Pearson Sound he may reflect that 2012 was a bit of a missed opportunity by his high standards. Early signs were strong when the fabulous Untitled dropped in March, with its resplendent mid 902s stabs and thunderous sub, however his follow up the Clutch EP, despite the usual praise, really was overly simplistic and lacked his usual panache for stripped backed drums and enveloping melodies. While Faint was a return to form, the escalating fortunes of Joy [...]

Darren Cunningham aka Actress, the man behind one of the electronic records of the year R.I.P , sneaks a cheeky 12 under everyone's noses. Super limited, hand stamped and sure to be sold out by the time I finish typing this post. Stream and purchase this claustrophobic 3 track EP via Boomkat , 1 copy each, hurry. Thanks to XLR8R for the heads up.

Its fairly safe to say that Disclosure are the electronic sensation of 2012. Taking their underground garage / bass infused credibility and thrusting themselves upon an unexpectant commercial audience, with their 'Latch' record almost breaking the Top 10. Whilst Latch wasnt quite our cup of mulled wine, it certainly was a refreshing injection of good electronic music in a Rihanna mimicking utopia. For us Tenderly, Control, Whats In Your Head , and Flow where Disclosure's strongest moments, and to complete a memorable year they have just offered up a free download of the classic 'Please Dont Turn [...]

As 2012 draws to a close Boddika has more than earned the right to kick back and enjoy a sherry or two, what with his vinyl only Joy Orbison collaborations feverishly dominating many a online shopping basket this year. However it would appear Alex Green aka Boddika is not someone for logs on the fire and gifts on the tree, as he has just announced early designs on 2013 with his heavy weight packed Nonplus unmixed compilation ' Think and Change'. Think and Change is due to drop early Jan 2013, [...]

Its that time of year again, however if like us you forgot to get yourself an advent calender and you don't fancy the Christmas shopping scrum, simply stay home and head over to Fact and check out their online festive ' 2012 Advent Calendar ', where they are giving away a free track every day until Christmas. Todays track comes from rising London's talent South London Ordnance . As you would expect 'Dune' combines techno bass and house in equal measure to give you a tune of deep atmospherics and dance floor grit, recommended for anyone who enjoyed [...]
