MP3 There's a wall in Washington and it's made of cold black granite They say 60,000 names are etched there in it in that wall in Washington A father, he traveled from far away to walk the path 'til he finds that name He reaches his hand up and traces each letter The tears they fall as his memories gather for the boy who filled his heart with pride is now but a name that's been etched in the side of this wall in Washington A mother she [...]
Sad thing is it seems that rocking has actually gone out of style. Short of the bands attending this summers Deep Blues Festival , the Black Keys (see 'em on Dave recently? By gawd that's what the hell i'm talkin' about!), and a half a handful of others I don't find much in rock to to get too excited about. It's almost like Iggy never recorded Fun House . Where the hell's The Melvins anyhow? I'm not trying to be all "well when I [...]

Johnny Lowebow is the nom de rawk of internationally renowned Memphis luthier John Lowe. Johnny has become infamous for his construction of various one, two, three, and four string Lowebow guitars. His performance at the 2007 Deep Blues Festival was notorious with mind-bending feedback attacks and backup by Washboard Jackson . Mr. Lowe rocked in obscurity for several years with various punk outfits in the Memphis area before developing his Lowebow . Thanks to gushing praises heaped upon fellow Memphian and blues upstart Richard Johnston for his use of [...]
I wrote about Seasick Steve a year and a month ago but kids these days have such short memories and tinier attention spans it's good to break off a bump for yer earhole now and again. There was rumour a while back that Steve was signed to V2 but I find nothing to substantiate that. He did put out a killer four track EP titled It's All Good last year. This year you can see Steve at Glastonbury, Roskilde, Fuji Rock as well as at The Royal Albert. Steve's train is bound for glory. Hop on and [...]
I recently got an email from a friend who was beat down, cockolded, and horrifically humiliated by someone he had known intimately for 25+ years. It came to mind that the only thing that could begin to heal me of a similar pain would be music. And the only artists who fit the job would be Mr. Frank Sinatra and The Tindersticks . They are the only artists I know who consistantly understand or in the case of Francis "understood" that depth of pain. I suggest wether you are really hurtin' [...]

Imagine how you like yr blues. Do you like 'em traditional (whatever that is)? Creepy and slidin'? Sweet? Heavy? Tough and shiney? Weird and wiggy? Brilliant and stoney? That's how GravelRoad likes 'em too. Seattle's GravelRoad are deep blues fiends who have crawled through the vast black hole left by the deaths of Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside , been absorbed into the razor light shining from the ancient beacon of Mr.Fred McDowell and have smelt the bleached burnt rubber black top left in the shadow of ZZ [...]

In 1966 Pete, Toshi, and Daniel Seeger along with folklorist Bruce Jackson visited Huntsville Prison in Texas and produced this rare document of worksongs by inmates of the Ellis Unit.
I tend to go thru musical phases where I completely immerse myself in what ever it is that is interesting me at the time and just absorb as much as possible of a particular type of music as I can, and usually to the exclusion of all other music. Sometimes, as in the case of jazz and country music I listened to virtually nothing but those genres for a couple years each before I finally started to dip my toes back in other vibes again. So it was with reggae music which fortunately hit me prior to it [...]
Appropriatly enough my wife reminded me of this R.L. track while watching CNN do all they can to fan the flames of negative campaigning even when there is barely a hint of smoke. CNN is turning into a cross btween yr local station and Faux news and a SHTBUG. Wolf Blitzer seems to want to join Hannity and Bill-O and roll in some. Pa-fkn-thetic. R.L. Burnside- SHTBUG MP3
