YP: “Black Sheep” Chicago rapper YP just released this new track, "Black Sheep." The song, which won't be on the upcoming  Restless , is produced by Xcel. World War Z PSA Viral Video, Crisis Zero

World War Z PSA Viral Video, Crisis Zero The film adaptation of Max Brooks'  World War Z is shaping up to be a huge blockbuster for Paramount Pictures with a reported $125m-$200m budget. Starring Brad Pitt ( Moneyball ), the film follows Pitt's character across the United States as he attempts to find a way to stop the zombie outbreak, known colloquially as the titular "World War Z." However, based on previously-released trailers, it seems as if the Marc Forster ( Quantum of Solace )-directed film strays away from the book's tone. Of course, Hollywood never sleeps, as is proven by this latest bit of [...]

Manny P: “Crumbled” (prod. by Savier)

Manny P: “Crumbled” (prod. by Savier) One of my favorite songs of last fall was "Runaway" by Chandler London and Blakkass Westley featuring Cadillac Duke . The beat, produced by Savier of Animuse/TBO fame, was haunting and atmospheric that was able to complement each rapper's vastly different rap styles. Savier has some production chops, and thankfully, we got some new work from him. Making his debut is Manny P, preparing the world for his upcoming EP with this track, "Crumbled," with production by the aforementioned Savier. Check it out below and let us know what you think! PHNM: “This Is It (Original Mix)”

PHNM: “This Is It (Original Mix)” If you've ever been out to a club in Chicago, chances are you've heard PHNM spin. As the Resident DJ at spots like The Underground, Debonair, Sub 51, and Sound Bar, PHNM's been building up quite the following. His latest mix, "This Is It," is a trippy trap track that'd tempt terrorists to twerk. Get some headphones, kick that computer chair aside, and let loose. Be sure to follow PHNM on his DJ Facebook page and on Twitter .

[Mixtape] SolarFive: “Say No More”

[Mixtape] SolarFive: “Say No More” Last week, Pedro debuted SolarFive's single, "No Love," which featured Mick Jenkins and production by OnGaud. The song was a great first look at what SolarFive is capable of. Today, his full project,  Say No More , drops on the masses. Featuring production by OnGaud, THEMPeople, Nick Arcade, Smoko Ono, Mojek, The Grimey Grinch, Peter CottonTale, and VP, SolarFive's debut is a gritty look at the Chicago rapper's life and the emotions he went through in 2012.  Say No More also includes features by Vic Mensa, Mick Jenkins, Dally Auston, VP, Speedy Calhoun, Peter Cottontale, Angel Davenport, Queen SheCago, Deja [...]

Lollapalooza 2013 Schedule is Out

Lollapalooza 2013 Schedule is Out The schedule for this year's Lollapalooza is live! The popular festival, taking place August 2nd - 4th, has been growing steadily since it settled in Chicago a few years ago. Some highlights from this year's festival include Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, New Order, and Wavves. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of music festivals; they're expensive, always outside and dirty, smell bad, consist of schedule conflicts, and full of drunk and/or high people. But hey, it's all for the love of music, right? You can check out the Lollapalooza 2013 Schedule in a PDF provided by [...]

Closed-Captioning Glasses for the Deaf being Distributed to Regal Cinemas

Closed-Captioning Glasses for the Deaf being Distributed to Regal Cinemas Going to the theater is a great experience. Outside of the comfortability of watching movies on your couch in your pajamas, nothing can really beat going to a theater, watching a movie on the big screen, and being surrounded by large speakers that make you feel like you're actually  in the scene. Theaters have always tried to better enhance the moviegoing experience for audiences, such as the implementation of D-Box seats which move and react to the scene on the screen, simulating explosions, car crashes, etc. Unfortunately, theaters haven't been able to find a way to complement the basic experience [...]

Free iTunes Stream of Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” is Live

Free iTunes Stream of Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” is Live Fun fact: The very first album I bought as a high schooler was Daft Punk's  Discovery back in the fall of 2001. I've never been a huge fan of dance/techno/house music, but I was enthralled by the robotic duo's anime videos for the  Discovery  singles and absolutely had to check the rest of the album out. It didn't quite blow me away, but it served to be a good alternative to the punk rock I was growing into at the time. Almost 12 years later, and I find myself just as enthralled in Daft Punk's next release,  [...]

[Video] Rockie Fresh: “Life Long” (feat. Rick Ross and Nipsey Hussle)

[Video] Rockie Fresh: “Life Long” (feat. Rick Ross and Nipsey Hussle) The video for Rockie Fresh's latest single, "Life Long," is finally out. Featuring Maybach Music master Rick Ross and MMG associate Nipsey Hussle, the song is about their individual aspirations to living their lives. It's been a big year for Rockie since  Electric Highway dropped in January, with his latest mixtape,  The Birthday Tape , dropping a few weeks ago. It's good to see a local artist come up and reach for the stars. Here's hoping the rest of 2013 treats Rockie well. Check out the video for "Life [...]

Impolite Society: Look of Hate (Remix) (Prod. by Nunca Duerma)

Impolite Society: Look of Hate (Remix) (Prod. by Nunca Duerma) (Image by Know Passion ) The quartet of Elee X, Khalfani, Sidewalk Kal, and Blakkass Westley don't hold punches with their music. If you've seen them live,  you're already aware of their gritty, in-your-face style. Their latest drop, "Look of Hate (Remix)," is actually a remixed version of the song they perform on stage. Produced by fellow Kimball House Production artist, Nunca Duerma, the song is kind of like an anthem about failed relationships and bad girlfriends. We've all been there, right? Check out the song below, as well as a statement written by Elee [...]

[Video] Kendrick Lamar: “B*tch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”

[Video] Kendrick Lamar: “B*tch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” Clad in all white, Kendrick Lamar celebrates the life of an unknown entity in his latest video for "B*tch, Don't Kill My Vibe." The video's shot with a somewhat soft saturation, matching the song's laidback, sometimes-somber tone. Mike Epps ( Next Friday ) makes a cameo in the video, baptizing Lamar in a pool full of liquor. There's an easter egg at the end of the video, too, so keep your eyes open for that. You can check the video out below.

Chance the Rapper: “Juice (gHETTO aCID Trip Remix)” by Mike Jaxx

Chance the Rapper: “Juice (gHETTO aCID Trip Remix)” by Mike Jaxx The great thing about music is that, despite a song being released, it will constantly evolve and grow beyond its original form. Sometimes, that leads to Kidz Bop versions or YouTube acoustic guitar covers; other times, it can become something just as great as the original form itself. It's been less than two weeks, but we (and seemingly everybody else) are still bumping  Chance the Rapper's "Acid Rap."  Mike Jaxx of Tha Hydrox, known for his production on ShowYouSuck's "Rest in Pizza" albums ( as well as his latest drop with Grade Aplus, "'93," under their collaborative name, [...]

[Trailer] Arrested Development Season 4

[Trailer] Arrested Development Season 4 Arrested Development  is one of my absolute favorite TV series. With its relentless stream of inside-jokes, witticisms, and cast whose talents are constantly matched AND one-upped with every scene, news of the show's unfair cancellation in 2006 was met with both anger and understanding. The combination of Fox's mishandling of the show by continuously shifting its time slot and the show's inherent necessity to watch each episode in order to understand the jokes and gags proved to be its downfall. However, after a seven year wait, the series is set to return, this time exclusively airing on [...]

[Trailer] Ghost in the Shell: Arise

「攻殻機動隊ARISE」本予告0511
Ghost in the Shell is one of those seminal anime films that appeals to people that don't really like anime. The 1995 cyberpunk film dealt with an advanced technological world where people were able to connect into robotic bodies (known as shells) with superhero-like powers on a network similar to the internet. A police assault squad is dispatched to investigate a hacker that has been essentially hacking people's shells. Ghost in the Shell: Arise is the first part of a four part prequel film series that dives into [...]

[Video] DJ Oreo: “#1DayAtATime” (Ep. 2)

[Video] DJ Oreo: “#1DayAtATime” (Ep. 2) DJ Oreo might not be a familiar name to our readers yet, nonetheless, at the rate this young Chicagoan is working, his name should be pretty recognizable by the end of the summer. Oreo currently DJ's for the 2008ighties' crew, Alex Wiley and Chance The Rapper, and his high-energy personality hypes both the emcee and the crowd unlike many modern-day DJ's who lack the charismatic trait and the ability to grasp the attitude of a venue. He recently started a vlog series that basically gives us a insider's view on what goes on behind-the-scenes for your favorite rapper's show. In [...]

Tree: “No Faces” (feat. Danny Brown)

Tree: “No Faces” (feat. Danny Brown) There's currently no other project I'm anticipating more than Tree's Sunday School II . Not only are we getting a more polished and inspired Tree, but talented dudes such as Danny Brown and Roc Marciano have put in work for the `tape as well. Plus, it definitely doesn't hurt to have Closed Sessions and Creative Control backing you up. "No Faces" features the Chicago's native marquee sound, a catchy hook and a verse from the always eccentric Danny Brown. Peep below.

[Trailer] Gravity

[Trailer] Gravity Alfonso Cuaron is one of those directors who, I feel, hasn't really received the proper dues he should from audiences. Sure,  Y Tu Mama Tambien won a handful of awards and nominated for an Oscar,  Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban  pushed the  Harry Potter film franchise towards a more mature vision (let alone a decidedly creative turn that sometimes clashed with the previous two films in the series), and  Children of Men is arguably one of the most underrated sci-fi films to come out of the past decade. Still, Cuaron isn't as well-known as some [...]
