The hype continues growing for Chicago's own Alex Wiley and his debut mixtape, Club Wiley . Our homies at Closed Sessions released this hot new track, "Creepin," just now. Featuring Freddie Gibbs with production by Hippie Sabotage, "Creepin" is a great song to help us bide our time while we await the full mixtape release. Club Wiley is coming out on June 4th, with the official release party taking place on June 6th at Lincoln Hall with ShowYouSuck, Kembe X, Caleb James, St. Millie, Taylor Bennett, and Jean Deaux. Chicago rapper YP just released this new track, "Black Sheep." The song, which won't be on the upcoming Restless , is produced by Xcel. YP goes in on the song with a smooth vocal delivery. Be careful, though: the track is infectious and is guaranteed to get stuck in your head for awhile. Listen to the track below.
The film adaptation of Max Brooks' World War Z is shaping up to be a huge blockbuster for Paramount Pictures with a reported $125m-$200m budget. Starring Brad Pitt ( Moneyball ), the film follows Pitt's character across the United States as he attempts to find a way to stop the zombie outbreak, known colloquially as the titular "World War Z." However, based on previously-released trailers, it seems as if the Marc Forster ( Quantum of Solace )-directed film strays away from the book's tone. One of my favorite songs of last fall was "Runaway" by Chandler London and Blakkass Westley featuring Cadillac Duke . The beat, produced by Savier of Animuse/TBO fame, was haunting and atmospheric that was able to complement each rapper's vastly different rap styles. Savier has some production chops, and thankfully, we got some new work from him. The schedule for this year's Lollapalooza is live! The popular festival, taking place August 2nd - 4th, has been growing steadily since it settled in Chicago a few years ago. Some highlights from this year's festival include Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, New Order, and Wavves. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of music festivals; they're expensive, always outside and dirty, smell bad, consist of schedule conflicts, and full of drunk and/or high people. Going to the theater is a great experience. Outside of the comfortability of watching movies on your couch in your pajamas, nothing can really beat going to a theater, watching a movie on the big screen, and being surrounded by large speakers that make you feel like you're actually in the scene. Clad in all white, Kendrick Lamar celebrates the life of an unknown entity in his latest video for "B*tch, Don't Kill My Vibe." The video's shot with a somewhat soft saturation, matching the song's laidback, sometimes-somber tone. Mike Epps ( Next Friday ) makes a cameo in the video, baptizing Lamar in a pool full of liquor. There's an easter egg at the end of the video, too, so keep your eyes open for that. You can check the video out below.
The great thing about music is that, despite a song being released, it will constantly evolve and grow beyond its original form. Sometimes, that leads to Kidz Bop versions or YouTube acoustic guitar covers; other times, it can become something just as great as the original form itself. There's currently no other project I'm anticipating more than Tree's Sunday School II . Not only are we getting a more polished and inspired Tree, but talented dudes such as Danny Brown and Roc Marciano have put in work for the `tape as well. Plus, it definitely doesn't hurt to have Closed Sessions and Creative Control backing you up. "No Faces" features the Chicago's native marquee sound, a catchy hook and a verse from the always eccentric Danny Brown. Peep below.
Damn it's good to have Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire back in these RH pages after the New Yorker had a short hiatus as he worked on his follow-up album to Lost In Translation with Kismet . Alfonso Cuaron is one of those directors who, I feel, hasn't really received the proper dues he should from audiences.
