[Trailer 2] Pacific Rim

[Trailer 2] Pacific Rim Following the WonderCon trailer for  Pacific Rim is this first official trailer for the film. Featuring so much new footage, the new trailer includes some back story to how the kaiju appeared and why the Jaegers were built to combat them. Fortunately, not too much of the story is spoiled in this trailer; balanced into the narrative context are, you guessed it, new scenes of giant mechas fighting giant monsters. Really, what more could you ask for in a movie? The Guillermo del Toro-led  Pacific Rim is fast approaching in less than two months, [...]

[Video] Talib Kweli X Chance the Rapper X Cory Mo Freestyle

[Video] Talib Kweli X Chance the Rapper X Cory Mo Freestyle Recently, Chicago superhero Chance the Rapper appeared on Showoff Radio with Statik Selektah to show off some freestyle skills. With him were Cory Mo and hip hop legend Talib Kweli. Each rapper cyphered over the "1 Track" beat by ASAP Rocky. Talib had the longest verse, but Chance definitely showed some good chops, too. Check out the video below. [via Al Lindstrom ]

[Trailer] V/H/S/2

[Trailer] V/H/S/2 As some of those familiar with my alter-ego know, I'm not a fan of horror movies  at all . I get too anxious and nervous when facing suspense and gore. The first  V/H/S , which you can catch on Netflix Instant, was a fan favorite in 2012 film festivals. The premise of the two films revolve around the discovery of VHS cassettes that depict ridiculously gruesome stuff. More importantly, each cassette serves as a short film/vignette directed by a large number of directors. Its sequel, V/H/S/2 (formerly known as  S-VHS , but changed because not too [...]

The Riot Fest 2013 Lineup is AMAZING

The Riot Fest 2013 Lineup is AMAZING Wow. Just as I was going on about how I greatly dislike music festivals , the first wave of bands were announced for this year's Riot Fest. For those that don't know, Riot Fest was started in 2005 as a way to help put together a seemingly dream lineup of various punk bands. Since its initial launch, the festival has grown exponentially, not only moving the festivities from the Congress Theater to Humboldt Park, but also establishing shows across the country under the Riot Fest brand. There's music here for everybody, as Riot Fest's growth has begun [...]

Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” Could be the Last 70mm IMAX Film

Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” Could be the Last 70mm IMAX Film While IMAX theaters have been around since 2002, it wasn't until 2008 when a film shot scenes natively on IMAX cameras when  The Dark Knight  director Christopher Nolan decided to shoot some of the wide-angle skyline shots of Batman and Gotham City/Chicago. The 70mm IMAX print showed a level of quality and detail that truly separated  The Dark Knight 's cinematography from other films... even if the aspect ratio had to change to fully showcase the scenes properly. However, with film stock slowly dying out as theaters begin to make the transition to utilizing fully digital projectors, it [...]

[Trailer] Riddick

[Trailer] Riddick It's been almost a decade since the last  Chronicles of Riddick film (and five years since Vin Diesel has played a character not named Dom Toretto), but coming this fall, Diesel is set to don the goggles again with the third film in the franchise,  Riddick . Written/directed by franchise director David Twohy, the film finds Riddick's power increasing and using them against bounty hunters sent to kill him. Unbeknownst to them, it's all part of the plan. After the success of  Fast Five and a remarkable performance in  Fast and Furious 6 (review's coming [...]

[Mixtape] Calez: “G-Unit Bundle Pack”

[Mixtape] Calez: “G-Unit Bundle Pack” "I told [Calez] he gotta be the coldest motherf*cking rapper in the city 'cause I'm already the hottest DJ, man," DJ Oreo says at the end of Calez' first track, "Ready or Not." This bravado is what helped Calez' emergence in the Chicago hotbed of up and coming rappers. His latest mixtape,  G-Unit Bundle Pack , finds the Southside rapper rapping over old G-Unit songs. I admit, I would have put this up earlier, but I got carried away listening to this mixtape. Make sure you have the time to properly listen through these tracks, because Calez is definitely not [...]

World War Z PSA Viral Video, Crisis Zero

World War Z PSA Viral Video, Crisis Zero The film adaptation of Max Brooks'  World War Z is shaping up to be a huge blockbuster for Paramount Pictures with a reported $125m-$200m budget. Starring Brad Pitt ( Moneyball ), the film follows Pitt's character across the United States as he attempts to find a way to stop the zombie outbreak, known colloquially as the titular "World War Z." However, based on previously-released trailers, it seems as if the Marc Forster ( Quantum of Solace )-directed film strays away from the book's tone. Of course, Hollywood never sleeps, as is proven by this latest bit of [...]

Manny P: “Crumbled” (prod. by Savier)

Manny P: “Crumbled” (prod. by Savier) One of my favorite songs of last fall was "Runaway" by Chandler London and Blakkass Westley featuring Cadillac Duke . The beat, produced by Savier of Animuse/TBO fame, was haunting and atmospheric that was able to complement each rapper's vastly different rap styles. Savier has some production chops, and thankfully, we got some new work from him. Making his debut is Manny P, preparing the world for his upcoming EP with this track, "Crumbled," with production by the aforementioned Savier. Check it out below and let us know what you think! PHNM: “This Is It (Original Mix)”

PHNM: “This Is It (Original Mix)” If you've ever been out to a club in Chicago, chances are you've heard PHNM spin. As the Resident DJ at spots like The Underground, Debonair, Sub 51, and Sound Bar, PHNM's been building up quite the following. His latest mix, "This Is It," is a trippy trap track that'd tempt terrorists to twerk. Get some headphones, kick that computer chair aside, and let loose. Be sure to follow PHNM on his DJ Facebook page and on Twitter .

[Mixtape] SolarFive: “Say No More”

[Mixtape] SolarFive: “Say No More” Last week, Pedro debuted SolarFive's single, "No Love," which featured Mick Jenkins and production by OnGaud. The song was a great first look at what SolarFive is capable of. Today, his full project,  Say No More , drops on the masses. Featuring production by OnGaud, THEMPeople, Nick Arcade, Smoko Ono, Mojek, The Grimey Grinch, Peter CottonTale, and VP, SolarFive's debut is a gritty look at the Chicago rapper's life and the emotions he went through in 2012.  Say No More also includes features by Vic Mensa, Mick Jenkins, Dally Auston, VP, Speedy Calhoun, Peter Cottontale, Angel Davenport, Queen SheCago, Deja [...]

Lollapalooza 2013 Schedule is Out

Lollapalooza 2013 Schedule is Out The schedule for this year's Lollapalooza is live! The popular festival, taking place August 2nd - 4th, has been growing steadily since it settled in Chicago a few years ago. Some highlights from this year's festival include Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, New Order, and Wavves. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of music festivals; they're expensive, always outside and dirty, smell bad, consist of schedule conflicts, and full of drunk and/or high people. But hey, it's all for the love of music, right? You can check out the Lollapalooza 2013 Schedule in a PDF provided by [...]

Closed-Captioning Glasses for the Deaf being Distributed to Regal Cinemas

Closed-Captioning Glasses for the Deaf being Distributed to Regal Cinemas Going to the theater is a great experience. Outside of the comfortability of watching movies on your couch in your pajamas, nothing can really beat going to a theater, watching a movie on the big screen, and being surrounded by large speakers that make you feel like you're actually  in the scene. Theaters have always tried to better enhance the moviegoing experience for audiences, such as the implementation of D-Box seats which move and react to the scene on the screen, simulating explosions, car crashes, etc. Unfortunately, theaters haven't been able to find a way to complement the basic experience [...]

Free iTunes Stream of Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” is Live

Free iTunes Stream of Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” is Live Fun fact: The very first album I bought as a high schooler was Daft Punk's  Discovery back in the fall of 2001. I've never been a huge fan of dance/techno/house music, but I was enthralled by the robotic duo's anime videos for the  Discovery  singles and absolutely had to check the rest of the album out. It didn't quite blow me away, but it served to be a good alternative to the punk rock I was growing into at the time. Almost 12 years later, and I find myself just as enthralled in Daft Punk's next release,  [...]
