Well, do you? If not, then you're in for a treat. The Bird and the Bee are a duo out of LA (wow, can you believe I'm into something outside of the 10001 zip code?) consisting of Greg Kurstin (bee) and Inara George (bird). According to their MySpace page, "Greg and Inara met a few years ago. Discovered a common love of jazz standards... nerded out for a couple of hours playing every song they knew... and then wrote and recorded a record together." George is the daughter of Lowell George , the late founder of the rock and [...]

Hi Gotta love Sundays...catching up on the weekend news, usually pretty relaxing in most respects. I woke up this morning and listened to some High Places, pretty relaxing. I included a song and live performance below, I recommend you give them a listen when you want to just zone out, this stuff is great through the headphones: High Places - Shared Islands High Places - From Stardust To Sentience [...]

It's hard to post about the latest/greatest/groundbreaking /just-got-out-of-my-Brooklyn-p arents-basement artists out there, so every once in a while, I'll find people that aren't in the loop or in love with bands I've been listening to for a while. So I know I would appreciate if someone would clue me in to something that's bringing a smile to their face, so here's my tip for you, a band by the name of, "The Walkmen". I'm not going to go into the whole bio of the band and all that, like I said, they didn't just come onto [...]

Austin rocks, mayne! Finally Punk! Hey everybody, just a few words about 2 of my favorite all-girl punk bands here in Austin, "Finally Punk" and "Girl In A Coma". One of my favorite things about Finally Punk is their "Influences" list on their Myspage page : "skrewed up thrash clique, friends wearing flannel, gator rogowski, a cellphone lifestyle, butthole surfers, the 11th dimension, ice sk8rs, frumpies reunion in a cemetary, mariah, germs, suburbia, esg, black flag, 1991-1994, the raincoats, the game m.a.s.h., nirvana, slits, dropping twelve hits of acid, kleenex, teenage boys, gg allin [...]

Ok, I said I was going to write this weeks ago but I've been fairly occupied with...well, life. Luckily I have a gap in my busy schedule so I can get part 2 of this 3-part miniseries underway. We woke up early Saturday morning, knowing we had to catch the 10:40 train if we wanted to get downtown in time to mingle a bit before the shows started. We didn't have a whole lot of time because The Ting Tings were coming on at 12:45...quite the early start. The [...]

So I picked up The Glowing City a few weeks back. The best way I can describe it is spaced out electronic folk/pop...that sounds fairly accurate anyway. Wow, what good music. This is what's missing in lots of acts these days. Genuine, honest records from hard working musicians. These guys, Hailing from Austin, TX, are starting to get some attention in cyberspace which will hopefully mean they'll be in my area soon so I can check them out (Brad you lucky bastard, always around the good stuff). "A follow-up to this year's Bright Blue Dream [...]

Brad excitedly forwarded us all an email yesterday which requested the blog's first single review. Now, that's definitely pretty cool, and hopefully we'll get enough notice to get more of these requests, so in the spirit of optimism I happily volunteered to review Almamy's "French Kiss." I wasn't nearly so happy after I listened to it, because it sucks. In fact, it's bad enough that I feel sort of guilty picking on it a whole lot. Just talking about it brings back the same sort of shame you probably also felt about nasty little shits making fun of [...]

I KNEW it! Hey everybody, got a new mixtape for ya, this time it's chockfull of some great weekend finds, mainly ones from some new friends on our blogroll. Those are quality sites, folks, we wouldn't add them if not. It's kind of like your friends, you only have the coolest of friends, right? Well, that one person that you've known forever, but don't really invite to all of your parties, yeah, they're not on our blogroll either.... So here's what I recommend, get the mix started (ahem, press play) and go through [...]
