The most general definition of music and sound state of the shape and motion is gained. In other words, with music, sound and silence in a particular time period is a form of artistic expression is. Shape and motion with a voice recognition process for listening to music as Yolanda feelings towards interaction is expected to do. Historical periods, regions, cultures and personal tastes to consider, depending on the definition of the term, the music may show significant differences. Especially 20 century, appearing in contemporary Western [...]
Minimal Instruction Set Computer (MISC) is a processor architecture with a very small number of basic operations and corresponding opcodes. Such instruction sets are commonly stack based rather than register based to reduce the size of operand specifiers. Such a stack machine architecture is inherently simpler since all instructions operate on the top most stack entries. A result of this is a smaller instruction set, a smaller and faster instruction decode unit, and overall faster operation of individual instructions. The downside is that instructions tend to have more sequential dependencies, reducing instruction-level parallelism. MISC architectures have much in common with [...]
As George Bernard Shaw once wrote, "England and America are two countries separated by a common language." And if you've ever followed one of those "Way Out" signs in the London tube in hopes of discovering something psychedelic, only to find an ordinary exit, you understand what this means. Read this blog and you'll be over the moon (ecstatic) delving into such linguistic differences as mind vs watch, badge vs button, and peanuts vs monkeynuts. And if you plan to do a little shopping while over there, you'll definitely want to review this post on English and American differences in [...]

I heard the phrase "strong woman" a lot during the last 18 months. You don't often hear people call someone a "strong man" — maybe because in our culture it would be considered redundant. I prefer to think that we reserve a special place for those women of unusual courage and conviction. They are the women who keep family and communities together, who aren't afraid to speak their mind, but always with love. Stephanie Tubbs Jones was a strong woman. I was priviliged to know her during the Hillary [...]

England's best new band, Glasvegas, will be here on a short East Coast tour this fall — and unlike TV on the Radio and the Drive by Truckers/Hold Steady Rockathon, the band from Glasgow will actually be favoring DC with an appearance. Don't let the hype from the British press turn you off — this band is the real deal, as you can see in my earlier post. Glasvegas Tour Dates 29 Sep, 2008 Great Scott Bar, Allston nr Boston 30 Sep, 2008 North [...]
Although Jerome Corsi's book "The Obama Nation" has been out for just a brief period, it is already clear that it has failed to put a real dent in Senator Obama's candidacy. The book may sell to hardcore conservatives, but its electoral impact will be minimal. Corsi co-authored "Unfit for Command," which did significant damage to Senator John Kerry's candidacy in 2004. Democrats feared a repeat in 08. So what changed? "The Obama Nation" contains no real revelation or new criticism about Senator Obama. "Unfit for Command" purported that Senator Kerry did not deserve [...]

I had no good excuse for discovering the Feelies too late, but by the time I fell in love with their albums (The Good Earth and Only Life, in particular) they had already broken up. As the years went by I assumed they would always remain atop my personal list of bands that I hoped would reunite, even as others, like the Pixies and the Police, got back together. And then last year the group reformed, playing several shows in the New York area last Summer. I saw them on night two at their old [...]

In 2008 Brooklyn singer songwriter Alina Simone released a passionate and compelling album of modern Russian folk covers that was one of the year's best. Now she has turned her attention a little closer to home and is completing a new album of her own material in English (which is previewed below) - but not before she dabbles a bit by playing a Britney Spears cover or two. I asked her about all this and found the line from Yanka Dyagileva to Britney is shorter than you might think. Howard: Okay, so, you have gone from Russian Folk Music to [...]

On March 9 fiddler Martin Hayes and Guitarist Dennis Cahill will play at Joe's Pub , touring behind their most recent album Welcome Here Again . Their music is Irish, and traditional, but it is beyond genre. The New York Times aptly called their playing "a Celtic complement to Steve Reich's quartets or Miles Davis' 'Sketches of Spain.'" Their work is deep, soulful, and transporting. I caught up with Hayes a few days ago. Howard: So I figured I would start with your new album which I thought was one of the best albums of [...]

One of my favorite blogs - The Playlist - has an interview with Max Richter, who composed the haunting soundtrack to Waltz with Bashir. hauntedocean The Haunted Ocean - Waltz with Bashir soundtrack share and enjoy:

1) It's nice to be the youngest, rather than the oldest, person at a concert. 2) Leonard Cohen's voice has aged exceptionally well. 3) His songs are timeless. 4) It's not just his voice and his songs - I will be lucky to look half as good at 44 as Leonard Cohen looks at 74. 5) If Leonard Cohen were American and not Canadian, we would be using phrases like "National Treasure" to describe him. 6) Leonard Cohen is playing Radio City in May. If you can go, you should. [...]

The Nationals held tryouts yesterday for the Racing Presidents . Here's hoping they find someone faster than last year to wear the TR Roosevelt costume. As far as I know, TR did not win a single race last year. share and enjoy:

Cassandra Wilson's packed run last week at the acoustically perfect Blue Note in New York City was a good reminder of what makes her so special. She is a beguiling performer with a marvelous taste in material and a voice that can wrap itself around whatever song she is singing and make it her own. On her most recent album, Loverly, Wilson treats St. James Infirmary as a near romp - live she slowed it down to a crawl, drawing out the song's pathos. (A great website devoted to the song can be found here .) The [...]

Here is what I have learned from reading "The Yankee Years", or "The World According to Joe Torre": 1) Joe Torre is a great manager. 2) How you manage off the field is apparently more important than how you manage on it. 3) Steroid use in baseball was apparently rampant but not in a way that was apparent to Joe Torre. 4) Derek Jeter is a consummate professional. 5) ARod's teammates despise him. 6) It's difficult for some professional athletes - Randy Johnson, Carl Pavano, Kevin Brown - to play in New [...]

Interesting post over at MarathonPacks about how even "alternative" music creates its own canon. Writer Eric Harvey cites Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes as the two breakthrough artists in 2008 who "represented sepia-toned American 'values' and aesthetics most clearly; who, as 'indie' artists, gave casual music fans a safe alternative to digging too deeply in the stacks, while retaining a soupçon of hipness." Not sure where TV on the Radio fits into that argument, or if their own breakthrough last year undermines it, but there is no question that "indie" is as much a marketing niche [...]

If Barack Obama's reference to George Washington today has got you interested in reading more about the Delaware crossing you might consider David Hackett Fischer's "Washington's Crossing." A marvelous book that makes clear just how much was at stake when General Washington rallied his weary troops for that heroic crossing. share and enjoy:

As we wait for Barack Obama to take the oath of office, Carrie Brownstein (formerly of Sleater Kinney) has a great post running through some of the music made by bands "that wrestled with the fear, uncertainty, disenchantment and frustration that for many people defined the Bush era and the events that unfolded during his tenure." The age of Bush was the end of the end of history - the point at which, as Americans, we had to grapple once again with the reality that events - falling towers, wars, hurricanes, recession - would dramatically shape our [...]
