I'd love to have a song named after me. I'd love even more to have a really great, dance-inducing electro-pop instant classic like this named after me. This lucky bitch has, for which I'll be eternally jealous. D/R/U/G/S has made what just seems like an effortless crowd-pleaser to me, I mean c'mon, such free-flowing positivity oozes out of this song that it'd seem a waste to not get up and dance along. Download it below, then have a rave or summin'. DOWNLOAD : D/R/U/G/S - Mila [...]

Barcelona native John Talabot steps behind the mike for "I Want Tonite", a new track for an upcoming release on the city's Hivern Discs label. A compelling, foot-shaking back beat and bassline set this track up magnificently, whilst Talabot's vocals sound like the soul of the night itself. Mechanical sounding, I can't help but picture some kind of noir-ish backdrop for this to soundtrack, a Neo-Barcelona if you will, where neon spires light up a dark city but don't diminish it's catalan spirit. Check out the track below. STREAM : John Talabot - "I Want [...]

The latest demo by those purveyors of lovely melodic lo-fi ditties, Fear of Men, is as delightful as you'd expect. A song which causes, in fact, the complete opposite of it's title, "Doldrums". Yep, there's a pinch of the old melancholia floating around but it doesn't hinder the simply enticing quality that the song holds down. No better time to embrace. Here's the latest track off of Sunless '972s forthcoming EP, Making Waves . It sounds like a burst of technicolor, spread thin across an aging canvas; the vocals more a soft plead rather than euphoric chant. Yet, despite a little melancholy, it's just as enchanting as their last track, "Illuminations" and is more than enough to get me excited for the record's release. Check it out below. The launch party also features the live debut of other blog-favourite, Palmistry , RSVP here . STREAM : Sunless '97 - "Wicked Gravity" [...]

Emeli Sande's Daddy Remix EP is set to drop 27th November, with remixes from Fred V & Grafix, Disclosure, Third Party, Cyantific and Ifan Dafydd, it looks to be a corker. With Ifan Dafydd's remix already circulating through the internet (and leaving considerable awe in its path), Disclosure has revealed their take on the RnB track, and in theme with the rest, its killer. The pulsing off beat synth, pounding bass, and swirling hiss, take Emeli Sande's voice and create something fresh, and crisp. When the bass comes in mid-way through the track, I felt an urge to [...]

Wow. Just, like wow. Demo material from mysterious rcsa here is sounding amazing. A pleading, begging vocal set against a dank, isolating back-beat make this track nothing but a compelling and deathly addictive mix. I've had it on repeat for the last half an hour or so, as if something has just clicked in the back of my head, I'm sat here longing for more. White Denim, a band who I've loved for years, are putting out a new EP, Takes Place In Your Work Space" and have lovingly gave away this delightful track, "No Real Reason". It's a slow-building and melodious song, a really strong piece, featuring a mind-blowing freestyle/solo ending that as well as being incredibly brilliant, showcases a band who really can't go wrong. Blog-favourites FAMY today announced the release of their debut 123, out December 5th, on Fifi. "Dogg Dogg" is the adorable and heartfelt b-side, that builds into a crescendo of emotion, a track that somehow sounds simultaneously fragile and overbearingly loud. There's a beauty to it missing from a lot of their contemporaries, a quality that earmarks them out for the future. Check out the other track "Mother Benita", here . After seeing them live at SWN Festival a few weeks back, I can confirm this track was a definite stand-out, you should catch their last free show [...]

I unashamedly adore Spector, the Dalston band in their sunday best that make some pretty emphatic anthems for the bros out there. This latest single, a big-hitting staple of their great live set, is a bit more understated than their previously released work, yet it tugs at those heart-strings all the same. Check it below. The single's out on Luv Luv Luv December 5th and the band play my local Kingston tomorrow (3rd Nov) at New Slang. STREAM : Spector - Grey Shirt And Tie [...]

New King Krule track here a week ahead of his debut EP release on True Panther Sounds and it's shaping up to be one hell of a special record. It's that middle-aged/worn-out sounding drawl, possibly sourced from youthful over-indulgence in cigarettes, that has me hooked as much as the prior released material; whilst touching lyricism and a mellow, almost totally subdued, melody that's as dark as it is relaxing, help to materialise this vivid musical portrait. King Krule plays London's Corsica Studios on November 15th. STREAM : King Krule - Portrait in [...]

So as a frequent user of Soundcloud, and there was a mega storm happening outside, I thought I should go through my followers and listen to their tracks, which I found pretty hard because there really is a lot of weird shit on there. Then I stumbled across Beat Comer (changed to Beat Jensen/Jansen now?), who is Trent Williams, a really rad dude from Wellington, New Zealand, and I was just smiling at my computer screen for ages and listening and I kept doing this all evening basically. His vocals are super rough and incredibly hard not to like, [...]

A perfect burst of grunge-y garage pop was exactly what I needed on this monday morning. Sounding like a prime cut of pure fun, dry roasted in that loving bask of being brought up on the rougher aspects of Nirvana and the beach-pop-perfection of Beach Boys records. As you can judge by their soundcloud , the band have been jamming for a while now, but I can't think of a better introduction than this latest track, released in commemoration of fancy dress shops' favourite holiday. Download and stream it below. STREAM/DOWNLOAD : [...]

Another two-piece here, in the form of Scottish lo-fi duo extraordinaire Dolifinz, whose latest track to surface online is nothing short of killer. A rough and gruff tone underpin it all, whilst a lyrical tale of love and loss tug at the heart-strings. So an expectantly gritty recording with an emphatic subject matter, not exactly uncommon, but Dolfinz show such strong potential that even this demo shines. Someone get them in a studio. Feel like I've been a bit of of the loop, four days in Cardiff without my macbook and then a busy week following the cause, so will be blogging a few tracks that have really had me in their grasp for the last few days. First up, "Portland" by the band Coasting, a two-piece featuring Vivian Girls drummer Fiona. Combining two of my favourite things in music, frantic lo-fi beach-pop and girl singers, I was always going to fall head over heels with this band. Check 'em out below. So "Milk" debuted back in May time when Theme Park burst onto the scene, but frankly, when a band comes back with a re-recording that sounds as good as this one does, there's nothing wrong with becoming crazily enamoured with the song all over again. So Rose, an irregular contributor to the blog, has been making music under the KEEL HER moniker, producing demos, covers and original tracks at an alarming rate, and her latest, "Boner Hit", is a slice of lo-fi delight. Reverberating guitars and looped vocals that offer more than a hint of the Vivian Girls, in a quick, concentrated melodious song, make this really stand out. Undoubtedly on the rise. Battlekat, undoubtedly one of Scandinavia's premier exports right now, debuted two new songs via the ever-great No Modest Bear blog. Two, more than brilliant songs, that will have you drawn ever deeper into their frantic, dark electro-pop world. "Mother Nature" has the band channelling the heights of The Knife as the dark, dank sounds reverberate against enticing vocals, incredibly compelling. Second track, "All The Useless Things" is here presented as a Radio Edit, and this contained burst of such an energetic, hyperactive sound categorically sucks you in. Check them out below. It's what I should be doing as I even start to type this, 01:35 AM, yet I can't help but be drawn in to it's relaxing, mellow sound, that's kind of like a pleasant white noise. Reverberating around my head and inside my ears, waves of calm overtake and sooth me. I have found my power animal, a defense against the anti-vibes. Embrace this. The Bournemouth-based bros in Yoofs debuted a new track online today, the oddly-titled "John Actor is Monkfish", which is rife with a dank, lo-fi punk feel. The kind of track that has enough evident rage contained within it's sadness to make you contrastingly invigorated and bummed out. Check it out below, and more melancholy over at their soundcloud . It's part of a very limited cassette run soon out (Nov 15th) on the South-West Region supremeos - Art is Hard Records STREAM/DOWNLOAD : Yoofs - "John Actor is Monkfish" [...]
