Danish musician and purveyor of curious, sombre piano-led tracks, Agnes Obel, gets the remix treatment from Lulu Rouge for her track "Riverside," giving it a cold and callous, dubstep-like edge. The heavily beat-laden rework structurally sticks closely to the original but utilises a new-found edge to invigorate the song and bring a fresh sound to an already great song. Check it out below. As part of the new Sun Glitters Remix EP, Portugal's Bruno Migel and his band :papercutz have remixed the track "Love Me" constructing a pretty ethereal and ominous mix. Wisping, faded vocals wrap around a progressive and driven rhythm, granting this song a sense of the grandiose, something that's only increased by that fantastically cinematic reprise at the end of the track. Check it out below. STREAM + DOWNLOAD : Sun Glitters - "Love Me (:papercutz Remix) Filed under: :papercutz , sun glitters

Here's a little Good Friday treat for all of you, the brilliant Ghost Eyes, who I featured last year kindly agreed to make a Mix for the blog's on/off Podcast series and here it is. A freakily good combination of slick Hip-Hop, electronica and a whole host of sweet remixes makes this cohesive entity pretty addictive, as well as being clear to see that these songs shed some light on what Ghost Eyes has derived his own sound from. Check it out below, stream, download, but whatever you do, don't listen to it alone on a long walk [...]

I remember Willy Mason. I hope you do too. One of my favourite performers circa 2006, his debut album Where The Humans Eat was great and he even did good with his follow-up If The Ocean Gets Rough . After that though, I've personally heard little. What prompted me to look into the enigmatic singer-songwriter was the fact that he's going to be playing at the brilliant Field Day Festival in summer. As well as that, he released a stripped-down 5-track EP, So Long Baby Shoes in 2010 and is heading into the studio to [...]

Justin Vernon returns later this year with his Bon Iver moniker and the self-titled follow-up to the outstanding 2007/2008 debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago . That's the impressive and immersive artwork above. But what's really got me really enthused about this album is the 51 second preview that Vernon has released. A subtle and enticing build-up that shows some development from the log cabin acoustics of the last album. I'd do a lot right now to hear the next part after that ominous drumbeat comes in. Watch the video below and get ready for the album to drop [...]
On Record Store Day, Yeasayer released the limited End Blood 73, comprised of the following two tracks that didn't find a place on their grand 2010 album, Odd Blood . Upon listening to both "Phoenix Wind" and "Swallowing The Decibels", that they come from the same recording sessions is obvious. Though the fact that these tracks are standout efforts, easily placed alongside some of the best songs on Odd Blood , makes me really wonder why they weren't included. It's even more disappointing that I didn't snag a copy. STREAM : "Phoenix [...]

Emerging producer Khalid Rafique has today released his latest material under the Shells moniker, the Pastels EP and it's up for a Radiohead-style name-your-price download from his Bandcamp . A chilled ambience pervades these three tracks and this contemporary take on laid-back electronica is as much an alluring prospect as it is relaxing. Comprised of the titular opening track as well as choice cuts "Clay" and "Mulberry Parade", Rafique has brought together the perfect primer to Shells' sound. It's hard to fault, a distinct sound that doesn't so much remove you from any comfort [...]

This is music to get fucking excited about. The genius instrumental trio Brontide are approaching the release of their debut album Sans Souci and have released the video as well as a free download of live highlight "Matador." They've never sounded better. It's a song that builds and builds, crescendos of noise all tightly contained and presented in this gem of a track. It will keep you hooked throughout it's six minute running time, whilst the video's visual flair more than adequately matches the dynamic edge to the song. Check it out right now, watch the video, download [...]

Record Store Day's fourth year has been set-up with a much deserved amount of hype as well as overloaded with exclusive and limited releases that have been put out across the globe. On Saturday the 16th I embarked on a trip across London that culminated in what was probably the most fun experience with purchasing music that I've ever had in my life. Serious. Here's a little recollection of the day. BANQUET RECORDS, KINGSTON At my local record store, the venerable and genuinely brilliant Banquet Records , I found myself, at [...]

Barcelona producer John Talabot is bringing out "Families", his first EP, on the ever-brilliant London-based Young Turks. It's dropping on May 9th and you can stream the eponymous track below. It features vocals from Cameron Mesirow from Glasser, whose voice perfectly compliments Talabot's inviting production, combining to make an addictive track that serves as a tantalizing promo for the upcoming release. It's a track in similar territory to the work of Delorean, reminding me of their Ayrton Senna EP in particular. It's a comparison you've likely to have seen floating around before, yet Talabot does more than enough [...]

The mysterious and therefore incredibly enigmatic Parties simply sent me a soundcloud link by email. And that's all I've needed to become hooked to their playful jams. Simple and effective, the seemingly teenage and docile lyrics contrast with the upbeat, quick and melodic music. After trying to chase them up for more info, they replied with the following cryptic email: "Hey man, Write what ever you feel about the songs. They are as much about you as they [...]

Metronomy's 2008 album Nights Out was a brilliant affair, a mash of 8-bit electronica, dance, indie and synth-pop madness with vocals drowned in effects and this year's follow-up, The English Riviera , had a lot to live up to. Frontman and Producer, Joseph Mount, has definitely exceeded expectations laid down for the group. After Gabriel Stebbing's departure in early 2009, Mount and Oscar Cash were joined by Anna Prior and Gbenga Adelekan and have rounded themselves in to not only a stronger and dynamic live outfit but also a more fully-fledged band which has noticeably been taken [...]

In what I think will be the first of many great Odd Future Mash-ups, gnarlo has uploaded these two tracks that splice together some Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt tracks with Neutral Milk Hotel songs. The fit is actually very surprising. First up is "Drop The Aeroplane Over The Sea" that combines the Earl track "Drop" from Odd Future's RADICAL Mixtape and "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel. Secondly we've got "King Of Assmilk Flowers" with "Assmilk", the Earl featuring highlight from Tyler, The Creator's album BASTARD and "King [...]

Here's a couple of tracks that dropped online earlier. First up is a remix of infamous rapper MF DOOM's venerable track "Vomit" by 3:33 which turns the track into something dark and almost repulsive. A level of absurdity that accompanies it when coupled with DOOM's rapping is slightly disconcerting but 3:33 have effectually reinvigorated the track. Making something that is very different from the original, adding a sense of perpetual terror does that to a track. MF DOOM - Vomit (3:33 Remix) [ via ] This EARL [...]

A new version of James Blake's "Give A Man A Rod" is set to appear on the upcoming Hessle Audio compilation 116 & Rising that also features tracks from Pearson Sound, Blawan and Untold with 12 of these tracks being all new. It's set for release on the 16th May and you can read more info here . The original "Give A Man A Rod" is a pretty haunting affair, a mixture of distinct and high-pitched electronic wails juxtaposed against dark, deep bass makes for an exciting combination. This new version is more of an [...]

The echo-y, grandiose pop of "Midnight Love" by Brighton's Cave Painting is pretty exotic, a clattering and absorbing track that the 5-piece have put together. It's a similar situation for the track "Leaf", which they've given away for free download, a chanting chorus of "Where the young go" set against a backdrop of an angular Foals-like guitar part is an equally enchanting culmination. Simply put, Cave Painting have got something here that's addictive and compelling, which is well worth checking out. I think what best describe the band is their own soundcloud bio; " curled up toes [...]

In 2009, Wild Beasts ripped up the internet, with blogs and websites alike bigging them up to be something special. We were not let down, "Two Dancers" was one of the albums of the year. Back for 2011, Wild Beasts have released the first single, "Albatross" , off "Smother" , which is due to be released some time later this year. With considerable hype, "Albatross" , does not disappoint. Coming in with a rather looming synth, the track breaks down in to a laid back acoustic riff and Haydon Thorpes, soft operatic [...]
Ever since downloading that interesting debut mp3 of "HEAVY POP" I've been pretty intrigued by WU LYF, which stands for WORLD UNITE LUCIFER YOUTH FOUNDATION, an anonymous four-piece from Manchester who've maintained a veil of mystery for the last year or so. Yet, hearing their recently dropped "L Y F" stirred in me something of an epiphany. An anthemic and adoring testament to perhaps one person, or maybe many, with the vocalist's sincere cries of "Love you forever" resonating deep within me. Some swooping, crashing and colliding sounds seem to make the backdrop of what can only be described a [...]

Ever since The XX's debut in 2009, there has been a huge surge in incredible and inspired music. Their impact is still resonating within the music community 2 years on, and probably will do for many years. You can hear this influence in Slime - "Caffeine feat Gaskel Creed". What starts with a walk down the street, becomes a simple but very clever dub like slow jam. The crisp production, sulking guitar, bass, and the layers of slightly echoed synth, "Caffeine" , is uplifting but with a rather sad undertone. After listening to [...]

When CYMBALS first got in contact with the blog last year, they sent us two stellar sample tracks, "Summer Job" and "Kennel District", a brilliant Pavement cover, showing off their jangly, erratic sound. Now they're back with an upcoming debut album, Unlearn , that will be released on the 11th May. "Single Printed Name", stream below, has high-pitched squeals for vocals that work well to compliment the underlying addictive groove that you'd be hard-pressed not to dance along to. You can pre-order the album here and for those in London make sure [...]
