Well, it's the end of 2010 and, with much consideration, the end of this blog as well. While growing, this little blog which began 2 1/2 years ago on Blogger, briefly, have decided to call it quits. Along the way, we've dodged ad revenue, copyright notices, and file sharing sites to bring you the best indie music we could find. Since adopting our current format last March, we've seen those very blogs and sites we have surveyed are indeed providing a great service in letting you know all the latest indie music and news. 2011 promises to be another good [...]
Tis the season for our annual Christmas mix. Here's some past favorites along with a few new ones. Best Coast and Wavves - Got Something For You Bishop Allen - You'll Never Find My Christmas Bright Eyes - Blue Christmas [...]
Whether it's the melody or lyrics, the catchiness or repeatability, the party starter or the emotive heart tugger, a song has to make a connection with you. It has to stop your mind whirling and say -- rather, demand -- "Stop and listen!". Of the hundreds of tracks we posted (and hundreds more we listened to) this year, these were the ones we most connected with. The ones that made us stop and listen every time. A quick note on the rules we followed. Basically, like last year, nearly everything released in the year - whether from [...]

Say Hi - Devils "Springing back to life from 2009's Oohs & Aahs , Say Hi (the moniker of 33-year-old Eric Elbogen) will release a new record on January 25th. "Devils" was premiered over at SPIN and I can't get enough of it. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait another couple of months until I can get my hands on a physical copy of the LP. On a little side note: I'm enjoying his step away from pastel colored artwork towards what seems to [...]
Iron & Wine - Walking Far From Home "Sam Beam is a man who needs no introduction. Over his eight year career he (or rather his stage name Iron & Wine ) has reached the point in his career where he is nearly synonymous with the modern folk genre. He plans to change this with his new (2011) album Kiss Each Other Clean . While 2007's The Shepherd's Dog was a departure from the acoustic styling of his previous two albums, I have [...]
Atlas Sound - Mona Lisa "If you are an Atlas Sound fan, then Mr. Bradford Cox ( Deerhunter / Atlas Sound ) has given you something to be thankful for, namely – four (and counting) free Atlas Sound albums that he quietly released on his website over four days. All and all they are an extremely generous offering including a number of notably awesome tracks (some of which he recorded as recently as last Tuesday). Having only listened to each of Volumes once [...]
Kurt Vile - In My Time " Kurt Vile 's brand of scratchy, alternate-universe classic rock songwriting has its downcast moments, but none as weary as those captured on the Philadelphia singer/songwriter's most recent EP, Square Shells . There, Vile sounded irrepressibly lonely and bummed, singing about searching for comfort songs like the clicking seven-minute standout "Invisibility: Nonexistent". It was relatively dark stuff, so when Vile's forthcoming single, "In My Time", was unveiled, it was almost a relief to see him with a sly grin on [...]
Crystal Stilts - Shake The Shackles "Although the band has been silent since their last release in 2009, that doesn't exactly mean you should just forget about them. Crystal Stilts are indeed back on the scene, and these new songs of theirs just might be their best. Without any new material for most of 2009 and basically all of 2010, one might imagine that when a band comes back with new recordings, they might not be so special. That is FAR from being the case with this new [...]

Weekend - Coma Summer " Weekend are arriving at just the right time. Although no one's going to mistake the San Francisco noise-pop trio's Slumberland debut, Sports , for an album produced at Abbey Road, the record is everything that a lot of modern indie rock is frequently failing to be in 2010: loud, immediate, and engaging, with a strong melodic sense of songwriting to tie it all together. That last facet could just as easily be applied to a number of bands in San Francisco, [...]
