1. I understand that you guys had to change your name from The Valentinos to Lost Valentinos. What was the story behind that? We wanted to keep the Valentinos part, and we liked the way it sounded. Simple really! 2. How did the single tour go? Did your fans take in the new tracks well? The single tour was great. We had the most fun in Canberra of all places (generally not one of Australia most exciting cities)! And the new tracks went down really well, I think the most consistently well [...]
There are some things we like to keep under wraps to ourselves, by exposing them, we undercover the risk of losing interest, simply as it becomes a phase of the past. The Voom Blooms from Loughborough in England, musically, are a bit like hidden treasure. Driven with electrifying energy and at the same time charming with love-sick odes, they draw notable influences from The Libertines, The Beatles and psychedelic jangle guitar pop to form beguiling indie rock. Labelled as one of the promising British bands; selling out their singles and demos, they're [...]

YES! It's yet another instalment of Molly's Mix! I know you kids miss my tracks very much! I am the fire in your loins! Haha no? Well that's alright. Here are some fabulous tunes to get you through this hectic week ahead! May you walk with a bounce in your step and a sparkle in your eye! The Shins Australia (Peter, bjorn & John Remix) As many may know, I in fact do not like The Shins. I am sure many of you will be proclaiming obscenities through your computer screens at me. [...]
Melbourne/Canberra's very own Young And Restless have delivered an absolute bombshell of a release. Their debut self-titled album is simply spectacular. Since winning Triple J's Unearthed competition, I think, last year with their extremely infectious song Satan , this band has only had good things coming in their direction. They have done everything from supporting major acts, moving cities, suffering major injuries from shows, having their gear stolen, being signed to Dot Dash Records and now they can add recording an album to that list. These guys have been claimed as The Blood Brothers if they [...]

I'll admit I was late in getting into the Go! Team. I totally missed them at Big Day Out '06 (arguable one of the best line up ever) . Even when I finally listened to them it took a while for me to get into them. Their eclectic mix of noisy punk, glockenspiel, 70s funk and old school hip hop. Their new album Proof of Youth is a masterpiece. Definitely a contender for best album of the year. I originally thought that all the collaborating with the likes of Marina Ribatski of Bonde Do Role and [...]
Patrick Wolf is someone with a unique talent. There is something in him that everyone can find something to relate too. His a brilliant multi-instrumentalist (harp, guitar, piano, autoharp, organ, accordion, ukulele, and most of all violin) who can perpetrate some of the most creative work that has ever existed since the early days (and nowadays I guess) of Bjork . The Magic Position saw (finally) it's day of release here in Australia a little before his tour a month back and to me it sounds something like a Bright Eyes record, but as [...]

Lately, I've been seeing that Bonds ad everywhere – the one where there's a phalanx of girls in colourful undies and whatnot doing a synchronised dance routine to a tune of a colourful, wild riot of energy. That song is called Marina Gasolina . And it's by Bonde do Rolê. The band started out in their relatively big hometown of Curitiba, merging baile funk, guitar riffs, generous amounts of samples and filthy, filthy lyrics into a big fat conglomerate of fun and all good cheesiness. The first band signed to [...]
If there's one thing I love just as much as witnessing YACHT live, it would have to be Panther . Theres not a lot of difference between the two; they both are solo (although YACHT does have Claire L. Evans), they both are all about parties, and both can put out some really incredible dance tunes. Panther's tunes on the other hand aren't all exactly about fun, he produces some beats that are made for sweating and really letting loose. It's all about moment grabbing with Charlie (Yes, I decided to use his real name), he made [...]
Art Brut makes me want to rock out; and I'll get to do exactly just that when they come down to Australia for the first time on mid-December tour. Their debut album Bang Bang Rock & Roll has to be one of my favourite albums of 2005 simply for those punk rock parodies, deliberate daft sing-along anthems, Art Brut have been renowned for, and of course vocalist Eddie Argos' woeful odes spoken, (rather than sung) in that thick British accent. Two years on and they've managed to deliver their sophomore album, It's A Bit [...]
One of the highlights of seeing Bloc Party last week, was that I was finally going to be witnessing one of Australia's finest and underrated electronic artist, Midnight Juggernauts . The crowd didn't react to them much at all, until finale Shadows kicked in, which was a major disappointment. I had poor seating, but from where I was watching from they seemed to put on a really decent set and I was loving every moment of it. Dystopia came out the day after their Melbourne support for Bloc Party, which meant that a [...]

Tony Wilson died yesterday (10/08/07) of cancer. He heavily influenced the punk movement and later acid house. He was the only one to air punk acts like the Sex Pistols on his TV show, So It Goes . He went on to form Factory Records, a label synonymous with post punk. Which then went on to sign Joy Division, later to become New Order. He also opened a night club called The Hacienda. This is just a brief description of his life. Checking out the movie 24 Hour Party people should give an entertaining, though not entirely [...]
Cut Off Your Hands have always been one of those bands that you just knew were going to make it to the big time. Since my discovery of their radio hit You And I about a year and a half back, these guys have done nothing but risen higher and higher, and are fast becoming my favorite band by each listen. The boys have now been signed to new label, Levity Records (Levi's Jeans in case your wondering) and have given themselves a complete make-over and have dropped one of the most joyous indie/punk releases of the [...]
Browsing through music blog aggregators such as hype machine and elbo, there isn't much about London based trio Semifinalists , so I thought I should step in. Clearly underrated, Semifinalists started out with two Americans and an Indonesian: Chris Steele-Nicholson, Adriana Alba and Ferry Gouw as three film students working on a project, as well as making soundtrack. They decided to form a band and this is what they got: eclectic lo-fi spacey atmospheric noisepop which remind me a bit like Canadian band, Islands with Ferry's shrilling manic falsetto over recorders and xylophones noted in [...]

I normally don't make a post about just one song, but tonight I am making an exception because this song is just phenomenal. Miami Horror is one of Melbourne's finest DJ's. There's 80's upbeat written all over his tunes and he creates some of the most unusual songs you'll come across. Recently, Miami Horror entered in the Triple J Remix Bloc Party contest and came runner up with this song. Personally, he should have won. This song, hands down, takes Remix Of The Year. Listen one and repeat all night. Bloc Party The Prayer (Miami [...]
1. The new album. For people who are unaware of your music, what can they expect from listening to it? A combination of instruments, melody and poetry set to rhythm. Some happy, some sad... All good, none bad! 2. How does this album compare to your debut effort? Well for starters, the production values were greatly improved. This has given the songs a little more depth and space than those off the debut. Some of the songs are more well-developed and less straight forward. 3. I Can't Dance, [...]
When it comes to down to electronic music of any sort of variation, I like it to be fun, upbeat, sweaty (sometimes), and to really grab you. This is where YACHT comes in. Ever since my first listen to The Blow's Paper Television , I have been a huge fan of Jona Bechtolt. When I received news of his departure from The Blow, it was sort of shattering, but it did mean he was going to focus all of his attention on his solo career under the previously mentioned name, YACHT, which personally, I think is a [...]

Thieves Like Us are an electronic trio, two thirds Swedish and one part American. They met in Germany. Their music sounds similar to New Order, the creators of their namesake. They describe themselves as "Half Daft-Punk . Half Factory." Fans of Cut Copy will definitely appreciate their synth heavy blend of pop and dance music. Thieves Like Us Headlong into the Night Thieves Like Us Fass Thieves Like Us Program the First Part Thieves Like Us Drugs in My Body [...]

It's happening this weekend so I thought I might put something together and well, I'm too busy during weekdays with school at the moment which means posting lots of songs in this entry to kill the time until I return. Below is a mix of tracks by some of the artists from the line up including remixes and covers; enjoy! All I can do now is wait...5 days to go. Half a day long road trip up the coast to the briskful Bryon Bay for the two-day experience. The Shins - Australia [...]

Bonjour! Or shall I say "HI I HAVE NOT SEEN YOU IN ABOUT A MILLION YEARS?!" Ok so maybe not a million, but hello! I have basically been on hiatus – ok not really I just really wanted to use that word in a sentence. Right so I know you have all desperately missed my beautiful, lyrical and musically ingenious weekly/fortnightly/yearly (ha!) blogs/posts. But I cannot really say you missed me, actually, now can I? I must say all the music you little chaps are being graced with by my lovely co-bloggers are nothing but miraculous!! Enough [...]

I wouldn't say that any specific decade was better than any others music wise in the last 50 years of contemporary music. However apart from the current decade the music I find myself listening to tends to come from the 80s. To me the 80s was the birth of post punk, the meshing of the avant garde noise with more (un)conventional rock elements. Aswell as the expansion of other genres such as hip hop or dance and how they all influenced each other. The idea for this mix came from the Soul Jazz compilation New York Noise [...]
