This song has been just sitting on Jerry Tropicano 's soundcloud for over a month without me discovering it, but I was compelled to put this up immediately. Surf Trem is as immediately likeable as it gets - I absolutely die at Danny's sinister vocals over the driving force of the easy-going garage riff and the dark bass line, all wrapped up in this total punk spirit. It wasn't that long ago that I was at The Diner listening to an idea about what Jerry Tropicano [...]

I'm not surprised that a crop of bands from Bornemouth (sunniest place in the UK!) bring to mind so much sun, shade and relaxation, most notably YOOFS , here with Hazy Dayz . This languid, floating jam is just right for laying on a day bed in a haze. Fact. This little cut is available for the price of just 50p from The Sounds of Sweet Nothing . If you're in Brighton, though, this weekend, YOOFS & YRRS will be at the Green Door Store on [...]

Very excited to have a new (well, recorded last year and found this year - but new to our ears) French Kissing track to play on a neverending loop, to the joy and then chagrin of everyone I have ever met. The London trio have been quiet for a little while but the Nuggets-y jangle of I Want More is a welcome reintroduction back into our lives. I've loved their garage-surf finesse for quite some time, and this jam is no different, though erring on the side of The Kingsmen than anyone else. [...]

Suicide Squeeze has announced their 2012 singles series, featuring none other than our favorite King Tuff , whose 2nd LP is my most anticipated of the year. Wild Desire , spawned from the same 2nd LP recording sessions mentioned previously, is possibly the song of the year. If you had any doubts about KT's ability to write salient, succulent prime glam-pop songs 10 years after writing his perfect LP Was Dead , this will dissuade you from such thinking in the future, I'm sure. Glam notes, [...]

It's a pretty special Sunday, whether you're in America or abroad - Super Sunday to be exact. And it's a great pleasure of mine to be posting Heavy Hawaii 's newest, wooziest jam Super Bowl XXIX . This frost covered cut from their brand new 73 via Art Fag Recordings sees our San Diego favorites hitting the high notes of Winter, the sparkling keyboards read like slowly falling snow. The guitars and the vocal harmonies remind me of the slow burning of ones fingers & toes walking into [...]

Brown Brogues 'Anyone But You' from Plastic Zoo on Vimeo . Check out Brown Brogues newest official video above for Anyone But You their brand new 73 of the same name coming from the impossibly en pointe Italian Beach Babes label. As for the song itself, besides being really great - is a different side to BroBro that I haven't really seen before. So much less aggression, but like I said, still great - I'd say erring [...]

Good to see Andy Auld (formerly of Teen Sheikhs , currently of label Sex is Disgusting ) playing music again under the guise of Royal Limp , which is probably a fitting name for it all really. Been debating about posting this for a while, and in fact, whether or not I actually liked it at all - but after about 50 listens, it's only 2 minutes 15 seconds of wonder, I'm firmly in the camp of liking. Similar everything he's done, it's super ramshackle, has twists and twinges of The [...]

It's pouring rain today in Los Angeles, January 23rd , and it's also Django Reinhardt 's birthday so enjoy Honeysuckle Rose as I strenuously finish this tedious piece of writing (not this one, another one - your confusion is understandable). mp3: Django Reinhardt - Honeysuckle Rose

Fresh off of my Top 10 LPs of 2011, and about a year since their previous (and excellent) debut, Denton TX's Mind Spiders , are releasing their follow-up, Meltdown on February 21st via the great Dirtnap . I'm already of the early opinion that this is going to be one of the best albums of 2012. I said the exact same thing last year (and it came true! ). Check the first cut Wait For Us below: mp3: [...]

Our friends over at SexBeat sent us this awesome new cut from Lovvers' Shaun Hencher masquerading under the new veil of VIRALS . They'll be releasing the debut double A-side 73 Magic Happens/Here Comes The Night . Magic Happens, download it below, is a brash and bristling sublime little cut of pop magic - and as described, a fine fucking pop song. Pre-order your copy right here . mp3: Virals - Magic [...]

Came across this kickass collab between Brown Brogues ' Mark masquerading as King DJ and Manchester upstarts Cold Bones . This demo is totally wild-eyed and rough around the edges, but the sinister guitar and vocals work really well with the mid-song freakouts, both making me come back for more. Don't know much more about No Need For Names other than it rules, and that's pretty much all you need to know. mp3: Cold Bones (feat. King DJ) - No [...]

Haven't heard anything from King Khan & The Shrines in quite some time. Bite My Tongue is as good as I've ever heard them. Smooth as. King Khan and the Shrines 'Bite My Tongue' by PureHoney + TheHoneyComb

On December 30th, I got to see the Growlers for the first time since they came to England and made my life worth continuing on - and my god, was it amazing. Despite the fact that their fanbase is way too hardcore in LA for my old, rickety bones - it was one of the best shows I've seen all year. In fact, they played a song ( Sunset Girl ) that is not only maybe my favorite of all time but had been forgotten by the band, [...]

Our bro Matthew from Lost Lost Lost / The Pigeon Post turned us on to this new Manchester band, Base Ventura . Can't say this too many times, but I love a bad/good band name, and this is a great one. Not too much known about these dudes, save a connection to Manchester Scenewipe , but the self-given description of "coming of age Mormon-stoner grind" sounds about right. Side of the Street chugs on, super sinisterly, with almost [...]

Appleton, Wisconsin's Tenement came into my life not too long ago with their second LP, The Blind Wink and it's become a thing of wonder, fascination, confusion and headbanging for me. Having read many a description of them as a punk/pop, I immediately expected to like this but I found so much more on this album. There is of course, some great pop punk here, not the kind referenced by cool 90s bands but of awesome bands like Lit (see: The Pleasure We Get ), [...]

My favorite Japanese band, formerly known as Friends , has changed their name to Teen Runnings due to the whatever Brooklyn band that took the name. Why Does Everybody Do is of the same ilk - that is, sublime reverb-pop - as all their previous jams under the name Friends. Succulent and sweet, the straightfoward riffs are like fuzzy waterfalls, chugging along in perfect accord with the reverbed-out 'ooh oohs' of the doo-wop-pop vocals. As always, this is awesome. mp3: Teen Runnings - [...]

Fresh off being named my favorite album of 2011, The Babies are prepping their next release, Cry Along With The Babies which is available now via Matt Mondanile's new label New Images and is comprised of acoustic demos from 2010 and 2011. In all likelihood, this will be awesome. Also below is the acoustic turn of Trouble that was released on that great Teenage Teardrops 73 . The Babies - Trouble by New Images

Any bancamp album that is titled As Shit is probably one that's going to get my attention, lucky for Berlin/Brisbane's Kids Cryptic . Besides knowing nothing about them besides these few songs, I'm pretty into it y'all, because I'm superficial that way. Fortuitously, As Shit is what it is - a small and endearing introduction to this cross-world duo who do noisy garage rock that veers downwards to (self-prophesized) drowsy punk rock. Shore sort of beats onward, into the past, in a sort [...]
Our favorites, The Bell Peppers , were originally planning to do a Holiday EP entitled The Jingle Bell Peppers .... which didn't happen. However, they did release this ultra cool Mexican-Santa themed video for their John Lennon cover Happy Xmas (War Is Over) . Of course, it rules. mp3: The Bell Peppers - Bell Pepper Hop
