New Music | Mr Hudson | Rusko I know, it's Mr Hudson. But it is Rusko and it is Monday, so like Warren G, step to this. Anyway any remix called 'Euphoria' has got to be worth a listen - sounds like a DJ Sy event at the Sanctuary in Milton Keynes. Those were the days.
New Music | PNAU I would just like to confirm that this is 3 years old. I do know this. However, if this isn't your tune of the day, then you might want to start reading the 9513. Gives me shivers like Patrick Bateman's speech on Huey Lewis & The News. "Is that a raincoat?" "Yes it is, Alan!"
New Music Festival | Xfm's Best Non Fest I don't get it. Festival? Not a festival? Festival? Still, I'm always up for supporting Xfm, especially after they stuck with Foals through the bad times. And now they're even in the line up which includes: Foals | Mumford & Sons | Biffy Clyro | MGMT Which can't be all that bad. So. Join the queue (online) on the Xfm site and win prizes and stuff. Sure!
Another Mercury Music Prize, another controversial start. Jo Whiley has her say on the shortlist...
New Music | Body Rock Coming up: DJ Body Rock himself gives us some insight into his influences, maybe past, maybe present, we'll have to wait and see. Lovely stuff. In the meantime, you know the drill, right click and save as, Body Rock's latest mixtape Inspiration Exploitation below including some NMB favourites like Sub Focus & Yeah Yeah Yeah's below.
New Music | Best Coast Rhythm guitar reminds me a bit of Carla by The Very Sexuals . Super lo-fi but love the reverb, sneaky backing vocals and chilled out guitar work. And if someone would like to pay for me to visit the east and west coasts of the USA, then I shall subsequently confirm or deny their aspersions.
New Music | Radiohead | Zed's Dead The most interesting thing to come out of Canada since... ever? Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead. Indeed. Not sure what the Illuminati have got to do with anything but I won't go there. What I do know is this is absolutely horrific on paper, but a thing of beauty in real life. And it's Friday!
New Music | The xx | Dark Sky Like Florence, The xx are incredibly annoying. Sorry guys, but really. However, thanks to Dark Sky I literally couldn't resist this remix. Full on garage style, 2 step to the beat now. I said now.
New Music | Foals I was definitely in the minority when I got quite excited about seeing Foals at Glastonbury a couple of years back. I reckon there's definitely a lot of hype to come from the NME type crowd for new album Total Life Forever. Could be wrong. Never happened before, but there's a first for everything. Probably not for this though.
Jeff Buckley or Elkie Brooks? Either way, what an awesome tune.
New Music | Broken Bells Essentially a lesson in how to be the slowest blogger ever, I mean even 90210 beat me to this one, but still, I'm not proud, and if you haven't heard this yet then, well, justice to all you naysayers. Big kiss.
This B-side to the single 'Sleep Forever' released 5th July, from the album of the same name, is what should happen when you decide to cover a classic. Welcome to summer.
New Music | Wave Machines I got pretty excited when this tune came off the press, but wasn't sure about the Bee Gees vocals. Thanks then to Artwork who have calmed it down a touch. Enjoy le soleil.
New Music | Thieves Like Us Not sure if this any good, especially after Drugs In My Body, but I could be wrong. So here you go.
New Music | Pharrel Williams | Armand Van Helden Little bit cheesy but what can you do? If I could be one man, it would be Pharrel. Add Uffie to the mix (fit, in a kind of American Apparel pornstar kind of way), and good old Armand Van Helden , and you've got yourself a stormer for some summer club night frolics. And Armand is 40, would you believe it?
New Music | Sub Focus Oh calm down, we're busy. Festival season soon. Chill. So, having been brought up on Dylan, Clapton, Knopfler, Basie, Sinatra etc I can hold my own discussing the finer points of the recording techniques at the 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert, Mandela's 70th Birthday tribute and all that. The same people who might ask me if I prefer Hodges or Bechet also then wonder why, and how, in god's name, can I love anything that sounds like an audio representation of life at Guantanamo Bay (as one friend once [...]
New Music | Fenech Soler | WolfChild I know, Radio 1 are playing Fenech Soler. But, you know, WolfChild remixes Lies and you can't help it. In another life I build websites and we are currently rebuilding photographer Dan Wilton 's site which will feature an image VERY similar to the above. Funny that, seeing as he took it and all.
New Music | Calvin Harris | Nero It's not great on paper, obviously, but somehow this remix by dnb/dubstep DJ Nero is pretty filthy. Now we're seeing legends like Deadmau5 move into the dubstep arena maybe little Calvin will get more involved. Maybe leave it to the pros.
Throw some funk, folk and general freakiness into a mixing pot and what do you get? Probably something that mildly resembles this outstanding tune. Although there are a few ingredients we just can't put our fingers on... Brought to you by Ariel Pink, recently signed to 4AD. Watch out for their new album landing sometime soon we understand. Bring on the summer please...
