New Music | Fred Falke Sometimes you hear middle 8's in house music and you just know what's going to happen. Cut the treble, cut the middle, slowly bring them back in, beat mash then break. Job done. But I love how Aurora breaks the mould, the Baywatch drums come from nowhere after a 1 minute hiatus. It's only taken him about 8 million years to put together but Part IV has been well worth the wait. Check it out. And did you know that Fred actually beat Nero to it in [...]
New Music Event | Hospitality @ Fabric Well it might be a bit bigger than Digital in Brighton, but Fabric is every bit as messy in the main room. This Friday will see some big names take the controls so make sure you're there. Tickets are sold out (boo) but there are, apparently, 1000 on the door. I've got mine but my friends don't so I'll be queueing up with you. Here's the highlights (and by highlights, I mean just the whole damn list): High Contrast | [...]
New Music | Camo & Krooked Fine. I give in. This above pair of cheeky Austrians, Camo & Krooked, are a guilty pleasure and, even though a lot of their tunes sound like a slightly angrier version of Does It Offend You, Yeah?'s Epic Last Song, I still like it. So there. And Hospital Records are rarely wrong anyway so I feel somewhat backed up in this (possibly completely wrong) opinion.
New Music | SOL Reminds me a bit of Cam'ron - Hey Ma. Remember that? Strawpedoed many an orange Reef to that tune back in the day. I'm such a classy guy. Anyway this is, of course, much better. A little bit Kanye but there's nowt wrong with that, and the beat is so laid back it's almost horizontal. Perfect for a nice slow Thursday.
New Music | Gotye | Myndset Gotye has actually been releasing albums since 2003, and he's still coming out with some pretty awesome new tunes today. The original mix of this track Somebody That I Used To Know is good, but this remix by one of LA's hottest talents Myndset, is off the scale. It's chilled, it's electro, it's got male and female vocals, it's got a start, a beginning, and an end. Niiiice.
New Music | Sub Focus | Kenzie May Well if the video to Falling Down doesn't make you want to go to Global Gathering 2012 then I don't know what would. I love the crossover between the electronic genres happening right now. Pure dubstep can be really grimy. Which can be good when you're underground, surrounded by half naked sweaty pikeys. But with headphones on some nice ambient chords are always going to go down a treat. Annnnnnnd reintroducing Mr Sub Focus, ladies and gents. Enthusiastic clapping.
New Music | Feed Me RIGHT. Family time. Beer time. Wine. Pigs in blankets. Etc. Lots of love to you and yours, and in the meantime, enjoy this SMASHER of a tune. Peace. x
New Music | Jess Mills FIT. And I don't just mean Jess Mills. Only some really high quality in ear headphones or a washing machine size sub can really do this MJ Cole remix of Vultures justice. Or maybe the speaker floor at Proud2. I could go on I suppose, but I won't. Instead I'll leave you alone to enjoy.
New Music | Nu:Tone It's actually a pretty tasty original mix, if you like that sort of thing. But Nu:Tone brings it up a notch and it's another piece of liquid loveliness from one of Hospital Records' finest. The chords are obviously very, very Massive Attack, but what's wrong with that, eh?
New Music | Kill The Noise I came across Kill The Noise after the collab with Feed Me on Muscle Rollers. I love how this title track gets you all comfortable with some nice melodic synths, then the drop comes and gets your bass face out from nowhere. Not that a shiny black skull with massive purple crystals for eyes is particularly traditional Christmas decoration, but i reckon it would look pretty awesome hanging off your front door. Don't cha think?
New Music | Nero | Fred Falke I would have thought that remixing Nero might have been a bit beneath the big Frenchman on campus, old Fred Falke, but apparently not. I actually love the album mix of this track but Fred turns this into an instant house classic. Oh hi, by the way. Didn't see you there! Yeah, been busy, but boy do I have some Christmassy treats for you. Stay tune-d.
New Music | The Antlers I like Spotify. The new app platform is awesome. I've even switched almost completely from iTunes after a healthy 5 year relationship. Why am I going on about Spotify, you ask. Because these guys are playing The Lexington for another Spotify Live gig next Wednesday. So there, I'm not going completely mental after all. OR AM I If you want to head down, follow these instructions! For a chance to secure two places on the guest list to the gig, Spotify Premium account holders [...]
New Music | The Rosebuds I've been a big fan of The Rosebuds for a long time now, Life Like is one of my favourite records of all time, if only for being the most unique sound I've heard in the ever-overcrowded genre of indie. I've been meaning to post Second Bird Of Paradise for a while. So here you go. If it's not the most beautiful tune you've heard all year I want to know what is. In a kind of 'FOR GOD'S SAKE MAN TELL ME NOW' kind of way.
New Music | Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs This reminds me of Fabric for some reason. I think it's the bass. And not to go on about old Joel too much but this definitely has a bit of a Deadmau5 feel. What do you think? Little bit? Maybe not. Anyway, I like it, so there. Love the garage chimes around 2:20.
New Music | Feed Me Hot off the Mau5trap press is a dubstep remix of Two Door Cinema Club's 'What You Know'. I absolutely love the original mix, and I was a bit scared this remix was going to be a bit pony. But it's not. It's a winner. Winner! And if you're out and about in LDN tonight head down to PImlico for the Deadmau5 '4d' - whatever that is - projections on Millbank. 9PM GMT. See you there. I'll be the one in the blue hoody.
New Music | London Elektricity If I was a girl, I'd be an incredibly hot blonde. And probably quite slutty. And I'd definitely sleep with Tony Coleman. Our lovechild would be a legend. Anyway so I'm just going to come out and say this: Yikes! is my album of the year. How does that make you feel. To be honest I defy anyone to not at least understand how other people love liquid drum and bass. And Yikes! is such a calming alternative to the more hardcore end of the electronic music [...]
New Music | Work Drugs YES work drugs. I love you. Where have you been all my long long life? If you haven't checked out the Work Drugs site yet then you should have, so shame on you. It's got enough pink for everyone, even you, pretty pretty friend. And before you ask, the above nonsense was written after too much work, not too many drugs. Beer time, ciao!
New Music | Kavinsky | Lovefoxx And now for something a little frrrrrench. Yeah I know, I'm obsessed with Drive. Deal with it! Let's all move on, hold hands, bit of a hug maybe. Group hug it out guys, come on. GOD how I love the sweet sounds of Lovefoxx. And you do too. If not then, then now. Go!
New Music | MJ Cole It's like the old adage - "He who has no time, has no time to post". I mean it's not that old, I just made it up. But It's true. Sorry about that. Anyway so here I come bounding excitedly back into your lives and what do I bring? A remix that's a year old. Talk about false advertising. But fear not there is a story behind it - a boring story, but a story nonetheless: having attended the Spectrum party at Electric in Brixton with Shy FX on [...]
New Music | College | Electric Youth Drive literally has to be the coolest film I have ever seen in my whole life. No, NMB is not turning into a film review blog, but holy crap it's good. And this College tune epitomises the whole thing really. Out of context maybe it won't have such an impact, so go see it then have a listen again. MMMMMMMM lovely. Everything about the 80s that makes me feel all tingly and nostalgic, and everything [...]
