New Music | Mother Mother OK, so maybe it's not brand spanking new to the world, but seeing as the album 'O My Heart' by Vancoverite 5 piece Mother Mother is finally being released in the UK (and indeed across Europe) on 31st May, we thought we'd refresh your memory on just how good it is! Bring on the filthy re-mixes we say! Head over to http://mothermothersite.com/ to find out more about their forthcoming UK tour...we know we are.
New Music | Terry Poison "I was listening to an awesome tune by this Israeli girl band" you'll be able to say later on. "Yeah it's in French and they're going on about being sixteen and getting involved with some married guy." And if the response is "hmm" just give your compatriot a knowing smile a think to yourself, "I know, I know."
New Music | New Young Pony Club Doesn't quite have the atmosphere of Hiding On The Staircase but simple bass lines like this always get me a little bit excited. And thanks to the heavens that NYPC haven't gone super electro since Fantastic Playroom - drums, guitars, all sorts of actual instruments being played at the same time. Good news all round.
New Music | Husky Rescue So who are all theeeese people then eh? Husky Rescue, of course. Remember that Serge Santiago version of Caravan? No? Oh forget it. Now here's a plan: Get out your old ipod shuffle you forgot you had Put this on it Dance around naked in the sun
New Music | Sia Where do you go after helping to create a seminal album like Zero 7's 'Simple Things'? Further along your own little solo journey, apparently. A few years down the line (almost 10 as it goes, which is pretty scary) and Sia Furler is still making great music. Which is nice to know. Its taken her a while but the fame seems to be rolling in for Sia, so I hope she's enjoying it.
New Music | Your Twenties Look forward to more from these guys. Caught Wheel is just an EP but the production is pretty slick and the riff is uber catchy. Go on try it. Catch it. Keep it.
New Music | Maika Makovski Hitting NMB fave venue The Troubadour next Thursday 11th March is this lovely lady Maika Makovski. So what is lava love? Who cares, she's fit. With a somewhat Scandinavian sound to it (so obviously we love it), I'm not surprised she's also booked in for SXSW this year. Better book some tickets.
New Music | And So I Watch You From Afar I always maintained I wanted 'Burn Girl Prom Queen' by Mogwai played at my funeral. Now I'm properly old I'm reconsidering. Either way, And So I Watch You From Afar fill a nice gap Mogwai left after the glory days of CODY, that I felt Kyuss never did. A bit heavy, a bit Monday Morning, but quality guitars and we've all missed those guitars haven't we. I mean not that Owl City aren't absolutely superb of course -Hoosiers have really got something to worry [...]
New Music | Florence And The Machine Not a huge fan of Florence et la machine to be brutally honest but there is something about this track, and I've been meaning to post it for as many days as Florence says 'like' in interview. So about 6 months. There is absolutely no chance in hell you haven't heard this, but enjoy nonetheless.
New Music | Delphic Hoorah! Good music! And from Delphic, who'd have thought. Underachievers in recent history, Acolyte is a therefore surprising must have album. Particularly having moved from Kitsuné to a major imprint, Polydor. I could have been more imaginative than posting the single, but deal with it.
Please read our open letter to the UK music industry . If you have a minute. Thanks!
New Music | Alaska In Winter Strictly speaking, this is pretty old music. But show me something good that's been written and produced in 2010. I dare you.
New Music | Ones To Watch 2010 Gone with a straight up Top SIX this year. None of this Top Ten business, it's twenty ten for christ's sake. 1. Top spot goes to your man Alex Metric , whose lack of video content astounds me: 2. Next up the man in the stupid mouse mask with a spot on video: 3. The Twelves finally broke through into our sunny climes recently with their Essential [...]
New Music | Top 10 Albums 2009 Alas, dear friends, for I fear little Phoenix may have squeezed into the mainstream. And Animal Collective? Really? Maybe we're safe for another year, I don't know. Anyway bonjour and welcome to le top 10 for 2009 as dictated by NMB. No Grizzly Bear, no thanks. No Kasabian, no thanks. Just pure 2009 style quality, a vintage year that competes strongly with 2008 . Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix Passion Pit [...]
New Music | The Twelves Unless Go Home Productions mashed up Chris Rea's Driving Home For Christmas with the sound of literally all the choir singers in the world singing literally all of the Christmas songs ever written, this is pretty much the ultimate Christmas mix you'll hear this year. Not that it has anything to do with Christmas you understand. Now I need to stop saying Christmas. In the style of an early 90s happy hardcore MC, this one goes out to Rose - a friend's newborn no older than 12 [...]
New Music | Get Well Soon Well it's different isn't it. And there are trumpets and everything. 20 points to whoever can tell me what film soundtrack this reminds me of, it's annoying me. Oh and, it's not electro! Hurrah! Stay tuned for some Don Diablo. :(
New Music | Empire of the Sun For anyone who hasn't been over to videos , and although I don't want to go on about it, this really is the best album > radio edit transformation I think I have ever heard. And of course the video is super weird but still one of the best of the year.
New Music | CHEW LiPS | Citadels | Labyrinth Jackals Cancel your plans for 12th December and head to SPANKing new bar Carnivale just off brick lane in London's East One for their little launch party, involving our friends above, Citadels , and loads of other stuff. Don't ask questions just do it. We'll be there with bells on, literally, and we expect you to do the same.
New Music | Eels If anyone mentions Lady Gaga again, I will scream very loudly and it won't be very pleasant for anyone within earshot. Okay, here's the deal: I will give a quid to anyone who picks up a guitar, writes a nice little song, records it without any synths, loops, samples, etc and releases it. Just like the good old days. Maybe there could be some actual drums in it? And maybe a bit of actual bass? And some actual rhythm guitar and some nice lyrics? Anyway, thanks to Eels [...]
New Music | Miami Horror Because I've been downloading old Fantazia albums rather than listening to some of the ridiculously light music people seem to be pumping out at the moment, because it's Miami Horror and because, well, you can't really say no.
