great track I’ve been sitting on awhile; a great accompaniment for the beautiful spring the southern hemisphere is getting right now. sounds a lot like the breezy, chilled sound that you find on the west coast but its actually by a stockholm based duo. out on cascine [MP3] Ditt Inre - Månljus (saknad)

stumbled across these guys recently. so good to hear a swedish band following a different path to everyone around them. straight up pop rock in the mold of late 80's british guitar bands. time to let the cat outta the cave. Deception by CAVE CAT The Abject by CAVE CAT

watery, balerica out of sweden. has a decent kick to it without overpowering the gentle vocal, and sweeping synths. out on luxury. Beluga by Beluga

dirty, dark, and gritty – three words i’d never associate with florida but which sit perfectly with Merchandise; whose Morrissey tinged post-punk has moved past the dolphins as the most interesting thing about the south east. this owns.

tobias isaksson the man behind irene, laurel music and more recently azure blue plays 80’s dj on this remix for former labrador labelmates acid house kings. fantastic version, wouldn’t mind a full album of this. twee glee.

looking forward to seeing what these guys do next year. this single was one my highlights for the first half of this year. it combines my two favourite things about jangly pop - ricocheting drums and a floatly mumbling chorus. yep cool song. out through cool nyc music store other music's new label
Easily one of the years best albums. I cant get enough of DIIV. The video for above is amazing, as is the Memory Tapes remix below. There is not enough of this groove driven gaze around. [MP3] DIIV - Follow (Memory Tapes Remix)
was tipped off about these guys on my most recent visit oslo back in april. they were sold to me as a more chilled serena maneesh, which I guess kinda works as a description. though only need to look who they got for remixes ulrich schnauss/ keep shelley in athens / asobi seksu – amongst many others which makes a pretty impressive shoegaze mixer list.

sweden does sweet indie pop so well. labrador has a whole label full of twee, so its about time luxury started releasing all the twee from the west coast. alpaca sports have released three of the strongest singles this year and I just can’t wait for more. 'I was running' is the latest and pure twee glee!!!

over the last month listening to the westkust ep, I couldn’t help but be reminded of another shoegaze band to come out of goteborg - afraid of stairs. they released the killer single ‘not today’ (below) through the iconic Labrador back in 2003 but were then dropped and within a few years had disappeared. well it turns out they are actually still together and have a great new track out – its called ‘ I Lit Up’ and has a perfect balance of fuzz / jangly bounce.
aside from savages , palma violets have been the most talked about new uk band over the last 6 months with comparisons to the libertines and the strokes being thrown about. after the faux buzz created for brother, the vaccines, howler – I’m not yet convinced and much prefer savages. when I was in london in march I heard a great story about an a&r guy travelling up north to see them… only to find it was the wrong band with the same name, ah bless. rough trade of course have signed them and despite [...]

posts have been slow on here for a while now, but I’ve still been listening to great new releases just not finding the time to write about them. I’ve been enjoying this debut ep from westkust over the last month and really exciting to here shoegaze sounds coming back to the fore in sweden, it seems I Break Horses have wet the appetite again. Out through the always amazing Luxury this release doesn’t disappoint.
last year’s wild youth ep was simply stunning, so when I spotted daughter had signed with 4AD I started imagining a complex, lush, swirling dreamy folk album. and well ‘smother’ the lead track is just that. perfect.

New Bloc Party album is out soon and it absolutely destroys. So damn good, mainly its seems because they are actually working as one. This new attitude of theirs was beautifully summed by Kele recently “Music is not supposed to be perfect, it’s just an expression or an attempt to capture a moment and because of that, there is always something magical about the combined efforts of many as opposed to the singular vision of one”
Had this track stuck in my head for the last 3 weeks - which given Peter is partly responsible for Peter, Bjorn And John’s 2007 earworm Young Folks is hardly surprising. Even if you don’t understand swedish this song has so much pep its hard to resist.

they have been away from aus for a while now, moving to the uk to set up base in brighton. I was listening to the mini lp they put out last year and thought I’d see what they were up too now. looks like they’ve had a lineup change, but these demos sound great. keen for more [MP3] Kins - Hume Bloom
some bands just fly under the radar for far too long. bec and ben have been doing great stuff around sydney for awhile but haven’t really been getting the attention they deserve. hate lazy comparisons but they are very much an australian version of the kills. [MP3] Bec and Ben - This Is Why I Love You

its friday night. so dip into this blissed out dancefloor jam from one of cascine’s finest rxgibbs of jonquil. ace

kyte are back! chirpy, over-emotive synth pop… yet incredibly intoxicating. you’ll go from urrgghh to hmmm in 3 mins. drop the pretense and go with it.

been sitting on this wayyy too long. latest tune from holy balm is fucking amazing. nod to the drum machines and float with the spacey vocals. just take it in.
