can’t get enough of this. just keeps pulling you in till you're completely immersed and salivating for more. this aint no coal.

apparently the 50’s are alive and well in australia. love this. [MP3] The Madisons – Radio

oh wow. stumbling across something as good as this on a sunday is too perfect. out of bristol this duo make melodic melancholy that wouldn’t sit out of place in the early 80’s next to the pastels et al. She'd like an hour by Snails Daylight ends by Snails

finally some new music from anna von hausswolff. her underrated debut was one of my favourite swedish releases of 2010, with THAT voice! plenty to like on with these new darkly ethereal album cuts.

the middle east’s rohin jones dueting with adalita. this is really great; the energy in this (and all the other middle east side projects ) is far more upbeat than anything they ever recorded together – it seems this break up was good all round.

super smooth 90’s r&b outta portland. jump back and get in that groove.

youth group have been on hiatus for awhile now, so toby martin’s debut solo record is a welcome surprise. as a huge fan of their first two albums urban & eastern and skeleton jar, I was hoping for something that sat somewhere in the middle of those. this is quite different to his work in that band; these songs are relaxed but never withdrawn, beautiful arrangements sit underneath the vocals giving his lyrics more prominence ever than before. this record is an understated delight.

had this on repeat the past month or so. caribbean vibe k-pop. love it. out on 4ad this month.

some fun, surfy indie pop out of byron bay. as far as debut singles go this is pretty killer. Your Friends by The Familiars

stealing sheep are one of my favourite english bands at the moment. sitting somewhere between broadcast and beach house. yeah they’re that good. album out soon but here’s a few tracks from their ep out last year.

sweet new music from marcus teague (single twin, ex-deloris). I was a pretty big deloris fan and this is what they’d have sounded like if they'd slowed down and listen to solid gold by gang of four on repeat. so gooood. there’s a remix EP out soon, more info on their bandcamp here . I, Lummox by Near Myth

enjoying this new track from the neat, who we first featured back in 2010 . they are clearly drawing from some post-punk greats, but that’s hardly the worst crime in music right now. really love the affected vocal - to me its more kooky than contrived.

crap yessssss! new music from boomgates ( posted about ages ago here ). can’t wait for this record to come out. bedroom suck coming through with the goods again.

James Yorkston is one of the best storytellers around. His last solo record When Haar Rolls In , has been in my car since 2008, so I've been anticipating a new release for a while and it doesn't disappoint. For me only Grand Salvo and Bonnie Prince Billy come close to his ability to astutely capture an environment and weave it into an emotive narrative.

something that is essentially pop meets post rock wouldn’t normally appeal to me; mutually exclusive you’d think. but for this eerie melbourne five piece it works really well. No Man Is An Island by Bayou [MP3] Bayou – Get Got

Stumbled on this record recently, out through great brisbane indie El Nino El Nino. Some really well written tracks here, not to far from Wilco or early Ben Kweller. Sofia by Big Strong Brute [MP3] Big Strong Brute – Small Town
easily my pop song of the year. this stockholm duo can do no wrong. disguising wit amongst a naff chorus is an art. i love it!!!

occasionally i like to indulge in music that spits in your ears whilst kicking you in the face. the sweet Rainbow Chan features on this, providing some brief respite. Animals (ft. Rainbow Chan) by Simo Soo
been waiting ages for this. finally new stuff from stockholm's museum of bellas artes. its cold, flutey and showing florence pop music is better without a corporate machine

we featured dante recently. well here is some more smooth, chilled beats that you’d usually associate with the göteborg scene that broke air france, studio and the tough alliance. out through stockholm based collective Force Majeure’s label. can’t get enough of these nordisco tracks, fyi nordic disco is a thing now, even if we just made it up just then though maybe this is more deep house… who cares just listen.
