Snowman, End of The Road Festival 2010 (© auditor blog) I was lucky enough to catch Snowman play (what would be) one of their last shows at End of the Road Festival in late 2010. It was a fantastic set and fed into my anticipation for one of 2011’s best albums ‘Absence’. Now they’ve split, and Joe is about to release his solo debut, which is fucking brilliant. Beautiful remixes by Memoryhouse and Keep Shelley In Athens of one of my favourite tracks from last year Tycho’s Dive. [MP3] Tycho – Dive (Keep Shelley In Athens remix) [MP3] Tycho – Dive (Memoryhouse remix)

really glad Sophie Koh is back, and loving the new direction. Last years ‘lo-fi’ was pop perfection. here is amazing new single ‘I Understand’. Both were written in LA with... Ben Lee... who’s also been writing with Sally Seltmann as Alphabet Botanical I Understand (new single - May 2012) by Sophie Koh Lo-Fi (Single) by Sophie Koh

zhala is one of the more exciting pop talents in sweden right now. she toured with lykki li. and this tune is kooky, fresh & actual interesting to listen to.
2nd single from new album. Like the first single better , but this is starting to grow on me.

Not long ago we wrote about The Middle East’s former keyboard player Bree Tranter, this week it’s the banjo player. Joseph Ireland apparently used to work as a drug and alcohol counselor with homeless aboriginal men, and these stories have been channeled into Joseph Liddy songs. Sydney’s Guerre had a great EP out last year through Yes Please , and we featured one of his Geoffrey O’Connor remixes recently . But its his beautiful reworking of WIM’s ‘Something For You’ that I’ve had on repeat all week. http://guerreguerre.tumblr.com / http://www.facebook.com/pages/ GUERRE/14817310323

I’ve been revisiting the best bands I saw at CMJ last year, and without doubt my favourite new discovery was San Francisco's Weekend (not to be confused with The Weeknd). They had an album out a few years ago but I was drawn more to their newer stuff, such as ‘Hazel’ a perfect shoegaze anthem that feels like it was lifted straight from 1993. Pop Singles have been one of Melbourne‘s best kept secrets; but all that should change this year with an album of lofi indie jangle produced with with Jack Farley (Twerps, Beaches, Love Of Diagrams) due out later in the year. Pete and Tam are in noise band Penguins and Ash drums with Velcro . Here’s some of their older tracks [MP3] Pop Singles - The Distance Between Me and You [...]

Willis Earl Beal is an intriguing character; a singer-songwriter out of Chicago he has managed to gather a strong following and deal with XL Recordings without an online presence. Its all thanks to posting around a note asking people to call and he’d sing them a song. Some might see this as a tad contrived, but the passion and soul of his antifolk is undeniable. He doesn’t have email, facebook, or soundcloud but he does have a postal address listed here and is promising to draw you a picture if you write. [...]

Memoryhouse, Mercury Lounge, New York (image © auditor records) I managed to catch recent Sub Pop signees Memoryhouse a few times late last year in New York at CMJ ( favourite live performances ‘11 ). Named after a Max Richter album, its clear where they draw their sound and inspiration from with their music feeling very much like sweet vocals have been laid over intricate, dramatic electronic compositions. Their album ‘The Slideshow Effect’ is out Feb 28 and is one of my most anticipated releases this year. [...]

Glisk are the perfect artist for this blog. An Australian band that sounds Swedish, making chilled beats with pop melodies. The Radio Dept meets Washed Out. I’ve been enjoying this new instrumental track from Jon Michell (from The Ancients/Mum Smokes) for the past couple of weeks. It feels like someone walking around aimlessly late in the day clinging to the last bit of warmth. Mojave Night is the title track from a 10 track album out through Special Award soon on cassette. Underrated Swedish indie rock act Francis are back with their amazing new single Traktor. Sounds like Wye Oak covering Vampire Weekend. http://francisishere.com http://www.facebook.com/franci sishere

Simian Ghost have been gathering hype over the past few months. Out of Gävle, they make swirling pop that pushes through synthy fuzz and fog. New album ‘Youth’ out on 5th March is one of the most exciting Swedish albums this year. [MP3] Simian Ghost – Wolf Girl http://simianghost.com/ http://sv-se.facebook.com/simi anghost
