Earlier this year former Love Outside Andromeda frontwoman Sianna Lee released her debut album, which has been criminally underrated. She has one of the best voices in Australia and in a different dimension is probably being exploited as a commercial Pink-styled "rock chic". Thankfully she has far too much dignity for that; the songs are lined with emotion and don't shy from difficult subject matter. This is dark contemporary pop/rock that deserves to be heard by a wider audience than it currently is. [...]

| When the morning starts to glow out in the corners of the sky. All the people come and go, and the time just passes by. Then I'm only gonna see it from the corner of my eye. When the planet spins, it sings like the wings of a dragonfly | This is an achingly beautiful song from one of the most underrated songwriters in Australia. His last release [...]

![[new_release] steve mason – hound on my heel](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2878268_lg.jpg)
Steve Mason is back. After releasing under various pseudonyms (King Biscuit Time, Black Affair) the former Beta Band leader has finally put one out under his own name called 'Boys Outside'. This understated track closes the album beautifully; dragging you slowly into a subdued anthem that continues to whisper and pulse long after you've finished listening. ![[artist_profile] disco nap](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2867197_lg.jpg)
Disco Nap are a Brisbane band making some really clever and sadly (so-far) neglected indie-rock. Lead by Ross Hope formerly of Iron On (which also featured Kate Cooper now in An Horse) they have been steadily working on a debut album, which is out in a few shops around Aus now. This is a really well crafted pop song that you need to hear. [MP3] Disco Nap – The Soft Sell (via unearthed) ---------------------------- [...]
![[new_release] ernest ellis - younger](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2864181_lg.jpg)
Ernest Ellis have had to cancel their upcoming co-headline tour with Parades after singer Roland was told to avoid loud noise for a while to reduce the risk of permanent hearing damage. But it's not all bad news with the band releasing a free B-side each month to their mailing list (which you can join here ); the first 'Younger' is below. Their album 'Hunting' has been on high rotation around these parts , and no doubt these tracks soon will be too. [MP3] Ernest Ellis - Younger [...]
A few weeks ago we posted a track from the forthcoming Cameras EP, which had an amazing reaction from readers - with lots of emails and hundreds downloads. Well they have just released yet another freebee called 'Kreuzberg'. As before you can check it out at bandcamp here or below. Read more about the trio in the our post from earlier in the year . Look for the EP out in October. [MP3] Cameras – Kreuzberg ---------------------------- [...]
![[artist_profile] yuck](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2849991_lg.jpg)
Yuck are a band I've been following for most of the year, not quite sure what to make of them. They formed out of the ashes of Cajun Dance Party - a band that probably had more haters than fans. Despite the shit name, they actually had a few decent tracks and the the melodies were quite good; its not like they were The Pigeon Detectives. This new band is a break from that pop sound, and a move in a more mature direction. I've seen them live several times this year and with each performance they improve so [...]
Factory Floor are the hipster lovechild of the UK at the moment. Their long, withdrawn, post-punk is undeniably brilliant. The most recent release an untitled EP was produced by Joy Division/New Order guitarist Stephen Morris, who applied "all of tricks he learnt from Martin Hannett." Be sure to hop on the bandwagon early for these guys before they gain too much popularity and are cruelly relegated indie cliché. This soooo good. [MP3] Factory Floor – Lying [...]
![[artist_profile] the holidays](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2946512_lg.jpg)
The Holidays have been around for a few years, in fact they were tipped as a smokey in our 'next big things' list at the end of 2008. That was on the back of a great EP that featured 'Ice Cream', since then they released an even better EP (one of which 'Holiday' is included below) and now finally we are about to hear an album. They were quickly snapped up by Liberation around the time of the first EP and have been given time to write and develop, a path which mirrors that taken by another Liberation [...]

London based Esben And The Witch made it onto our 'next big things' tips at the end of last year and have recently signed to esteemed US indie Matador. They're about to embark on a tour of the states with Foals which should garner them a much larger fan base. Their moody, atmospheric post-punk makes them in my opinion one of the most exciting bands around at the moment, and I wouldn't be suprised if they make a similar impression on the scene as 'The XX' have this last year. [...]

| They scratch me with their cut-your-ego game, and never take the blame. They shoot me down and stab me with their lie; to see me writhe. But I'm growing from their shattered self-esteem I'm making new dreams | This is a b-side from one of the several singles released by the Ricky Gervais fronted duo in the early 80's on London Records. The A-side 'More To [...]

Cameras who we profiled earlier this year are set to release their debut EP this October and have been nice enough to give away this stunning track for FREE. Check it out at bandcamp here or below. It is yet another example of their brilliance; 2011 is looking bright for these folk. | Hand, hands like hooks, You'll get hurt If you play with crooks. Your hand, that's all he took, The world opened up, For your looks. | This is my favourite The Go-Betweens track, which sadly is often left out when people are discussing their 'hits'. The Radio Dept. cover version is also a particularly brilliant modern interpretation. [MP3] [...]

Delorean have been without doubt one of the breakthrough acts of 2010. They chucked out a fun EP back in 2006 called "into the plateau" that showed lots of promise, but this year thanks to the 'chillwave' phenomenon that has evolved through music blogs their popularity has skyrocketed. The album 'Subizia' is one of the years best; full of smooth, synthy goodness. I was lucky enough to catchy them back in May at Primavera Sound, in their hometown Barcelona and can assure you they're just as much fun live. Stay [...]
