The up-and-coming Joe Pug stopped by Laundromatinee.com's VIBES II location to perform our first outdoor session. In the 6 months since self releasing the "Nation of Heat" EP, Pug landed a major booking agency (Monterey International) and sold out his first two headlining shows in Chicago. Nic Harcourt recently played "Hymn #101" on Morning Becomes Eclectic after it was featured as KCRW's Top Tune. The song was also recently featured on NPR's Second stage with a glowing review. Pug is truly a rising star and we're thrilled to help in any way we can. Check out Hymn [...]
Tally Hall are guaranteed to always give you playful songs with catchy hooks and incredible harmonies. They'll bust out a rap track just as fast though, if the party warrants it. The band went major label this year and re-released their album "Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum". Time will tell if that was a good decision, but one thing is certain, the quality of those songs is not in doubt. Tally Hall came to The Pop Machine and played us three fantastic renditions of songs from that release.
"Glory Hope Mountain" was one of 2008's best releases you probably missed. Released by the small Canadian label Paper Bag Records, the album was essentially a beautiful research project in which lead singer Rolf Klausener got in touch with his mother and their South American history and roots. Each song takes influence from the life story of Gloria Montoya Esperanza, as told by her son. "Glory Hope Mountain" is part historical narrative and part fairy tale, but the result is an intensely personal and heartfelt record full of wonderful, rich folk songs.

Eco-friendly Cloud Cult continues to do things their way, always keeping Mother Earth as their first priority. In late April of 2008, the band stopped by our, then, 91.7 WEEM radio station at Pentleton Heights High School to record this session. It was also one of our first to be videotaped. A local newspaper photographer requested to be on hand to document the event, but he just didn't seem to get that we wanted him to stay the eff out of the shot! While we appreciated the coverage, it was pretty frustrating. We also had an [...]
