An interview on German TV from 2000. Interesting conversation. Primarily about the making of All That You Can't Leave Behind. Featuring "wonderful Bone-o and wonderful Larry Mullen Jr." in parts 1 and 2 and Edge and Adam in parts 3 and 4. I like the conversation in the clip below about the interviewer Charlotte Roche's favorite song on that album, Stuck in a Moment. part 1 In the beginning of the second video clip (below) from the interview, Bone-o requests the start of a movement to change the pronunciation of [...]
Friday Flashback: MacPhisto Mashup. Four different "hidden" clips of Mr. MacPhisto from the Achtung Baby reissue box set (super and uber editions). Starts with 1. phone call to Alessandra Mussolini (Bologna); 2. band introductions (Madrid), highlighted by Larry giving Bono the finger; 3. the best of these clips is the phone call to KLM Airlines (Rotterdam); and 4. is a phone call to Helmet Kohl (Munich). RELATED: Macphisto Transcripts UNRELATEDLY RELATED: Bono Egg Man (Rattle and Humpty) [...]
Pop Flashback... U2 auctioning off the Disco Bus. "Buy our bus, disco bus." (Blurry but recommended.) Related - Bono and Larry interviewed on the Disco Bus (4 part interview):
Flashback: This interview showcases the mullet in its most perfect state. U2 in Tokyo, interviewed on the Japanese TV show Best Hit USA the day after the end of the War Tour. 12-01-1983 .
Elevation Tour Flashback : U2 last played* In God's Country back in 2001 on the Elevation tour. So many other memorable things were going on during that tour, it's easy to forget that they even played this. They played it at three different shows at the end of the Elevation tour - Phoenix, Miami and Dallas - as per U2gigs database . (Miami and Dallas videos below.) In God's Country. Dallas, November 25, 2001. (above) In God's Country. Elevation Tour, Miami, December [...]
"It's sort of odd in a way for me to be doing this..." The Edge inducts the Yardbirds into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during the 1992 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
"We intend to make records until people are entirely sick of U2," says long-time ago Bono in clip 2 below. (cough) Friday flashback : This MTV video, U2 Fire and Desire, features interview clips from throughout the 80s, but the main focus is on Rattle and Hum era. Some good sound bites. (Aired as sort of a Rattle and Hum promo originally it seems.) Part 1: Part 2:
Flashback: U2 accepting the "Best International Group" award at the 1988 Irish Music Awards sponsored by the Milk Marketing Board.
This earth-shatteringly important video flashback is from 1998. The very important “chest shaving” question was posed to Bono, apparently, after the "U2 Massive Heeds" (as TFI Friday's Chris Evans called them), had appeared on one TFI Friday episode where the massive headed Bono had chest hair and then appeared on another episode where the massive headed Bono did not have chest hair. Of course, a viewer wrote in to ask about this fake massive headed Bono chest hair drama. So, real Bono answered the question. (Or did he?) Related: What the [...]
Flashback: Bono interviewed by Jack Cafferty in 1985. Warning: Not Safe For people afraid of mullets.
RTE video: Bono is interviewed prior to Aung San Suu Kyi being honored in Dublin on June 18. Related: Irish Times - Suu Kyi honoured in Dublin during 'unforgettable day' Bono also performed during the Electric Burma concert in Dublin held in honor of Aung San Suu Kyi. With Damien Rice accompanying on an acoustic guitar, Bono sang "Walk On" and told the audience that Rice was filling in for The Edge. They then sang "One" and Bono dedicated [...]
That's the back cover of the UK version of the Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own DVD single . I was going through some of my stuff and I saw it and it was Father's Day, so I snapped a photo. That photo of the U2 dads makes me sad and happy at the same time. Relatedly unrelated: The official video for the song Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, for me, was a quintessential *almost awesome moment. (See below). It does convey genuine emotion, but I wish hoodie Bono wandering [...]
U2 playing Out of Control in Belfast, 1981.

Remember that interview that drummer did that one time in 2009 at that game by some basketball team in some city in some arena? Oh yes, Larry Mullen Jr. interviewed at halftime of a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden in 2009. I wonder how many Bud Lights Jr. drank before that interview. Totally related: Let's Go Knicks. xo
A little late on the uptake on this, I know, but I just read David Fricke's excellent/interesting interview with Jimmy Iovine in the April 11, 2012 issue of Rolling Stone . It was good, and a portion was about his work with U2, but one question and response in particular made me sort of laugh. (Out loud. On a plane. Where everyone else was sleeping. But whatev.) As the head of their record company, what was your opinion of U22s last album, "No Line on the Horizon"? Jimmy Iovine: [...]
Bono's hair appeared on two separate pre-taped TV appearances during the past few days. Based on the video evidence, the hair appears to be experimenting with some new ideas.
