Sorry I was away yesterday. Just for that, I'll post two songs today. So, remember that lame science experiment when your 3rd grade teacher mixed salt and pepper, then told you she could separate them? Then she put them in water? And the pepper floated and the salt sank? (Or something?) But it was all useless cause they were both in water anyway, never to be properly used? Anyway, that's the way I feel about these two remixes of Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa by Vampire Weekend. The Teenagers [...]

So I'm already making plans for next year. This MA program is only a year. In some ways, that's pretty awesome. I can have a post-grad degree before the age of 23. But, after marinating in one place for four years, I was still unsure about the next step after May 25th, so now I'm just straight paranoid about not having my footing for the next time around. I'm looking at PhD programs and ESL teaching positions abroad. All I know is that I need to live out of the US for a bit longer. [...]

But isn't this German stock market guy: ...the same guy from my post nearly two years ago?: Why is he always worrying? At least he kept his job from last time all hell broke loose.

Today I've got to run around and do some immigration stuff. Yay. I'm only here for a year, but they need to make sure that I don't default to Dutch welfare or something. The fact that the US economy is kind of in the toilet doesn't help me look any more self sufficient. I just hope they accept all my documents and don't give me any crap. On the brightside, the euro is now $1.36, which is near where it was when I studied abroad. This is so amazing. I mean, I can't go on [...]

Sun showers are super common in the Netherlands. Sun showers and other less aesthetically pleasing manifestations of crap weather. But it helps if you view as God's way of remixing the world around us (or "huggin' us closer). Clearly, this was a thin lead into the mashup post. Two to three songs, one brilliant outcome. Eet smaakelijk! Jeumie (Weezer vs. Yelle) by Immuzikation [...]

So, this weekend is the Relief of Leiden. Think of Queensday, but without the orange and only happening in one city. It is crazy to get around. There is lots of beer, peeing in the canal, and a few fights here and there. And some techno thrown on for good measure. Beautiful. The night before, I saw a guy a the supermarket who literally had his cart packed to the brim with hutspot (traditional Dutch potato/cabbage thing), beer, and, of course, toilet paper. It was surreal amount of toilet paper. I guess [...]

I'm too tired to post anything coherent, but I will say this: the Bond song sucks somethin' fierce. Really, Jack White and Alicia Keys? This was the best you could do? This wasn't even phoned in, it was drunk- dialled. You can do better. Amy Winehouse in her current state could do better. Shame on you. Back tomorrow.

Normally I like to post only once a day. But something so stupid and egregious caught my attention, that I couldn't hold back. Horace Engdahl, the chief of the Nobel Prize committee, (Who the hell died and left him in charge?), thinks that Americans are too "ignorant" to be great writers: ' 'The U.S. is too isolated, too insular. They don't translate enough and don't really participate in the big dialogue of literature," Engdahl said. "That ignorance is restraining." I'm the biggest fan of living abroad and learning new things, but this [...]
