I'm always amazed when I come across a song that suits my mood to a "T." Jesse Payne's "Manhattan Project" is one of those songs for me tonight. It's mellow, pensive, and Payne's vocals seem to ache with every word. The song was released sometime last month, but since Payne's new album, Nesting, is set to drop on November 9th, I thought it would be a good time to revisit it. Here is how his official website describes the record:

Jimmy McMillan is a candidate for Governor of New York under the party he created, "The Rent Is Too Damn High." Take a look at some highlights from last night's debate in the video below. McMillan covers everything from rent being too high to gay marriage, where he proclaims that if you want to marry a shoe, that's a-ok with him. I'm guessing within the next 24 hours we'll have plenty of remixes and mash-ups that include Mr. McMillan... and I have to say, I cannot WAIT for them.
We've featured Warpaint a few times already... all in anticipation of their new album, The Fool. Well, now you can stream the entire album in its entirety for the week before its official release. I haven't heard much off the record other than "Undertow," so you can be your butt that I'm going to have a sit with this record and see if they live up to the hype.
[caption id="attachment_23428" align="aligncenter" width="450" caption="Dapper, indeed!"] [/caption] You can't help but a like a band that describes themselves as "dapper." I'm not quite sure I've ever used that word before, to be honest... something on my "to do" list, for sure. Chicago's Scattered Trees have a new single out, "Four Days Straight," and I can imagine a bunch of dapper young squires performing this ditty... they'd be the bees knees for sure.

Below we've listed just a few of the notable new releases for the week. As always, if you know of an artist or band releasing an album today that you don't see on our list but think should be, leave us a note in the comments with a link to their site… we're always interested in checking out new music. The Witmark Demos features 47 songs recorded by Bob Dylan with only his acoustic guitar, harmonica and occasionally piano accompanying him. It's interesting to note that all the songs on The Witmark Demos were written and [...]

A week just isn't a week without Kanye West t news... and it's just Monday. He tweeted thisyesterday: Yoooo they banned my album cover!!!!! Ima tweet it in a few... I said to myself, "Self? How bad could the album cover be?" Well, I found out a couple of hours later. Dig it:

I once saw an interview with Daryl Hall and John Oates about how their careers exploded in the 80's. They explained that in order to achieve the massive success they did, their music had to take the pop route. The two said this without any apologies or regrets, and I had the feeling that they were proud of it… which they should be… six #1 hits is nothing to scoff at. Now, I'm not saying that every band needs to do what Hall & Oates did, but it's something to think about. It [...]

I pulled this Ryan Adams bootleg out to listen to "La Cienega Just Smiled," and stuck around for the rest. Recorded in Austin, Texas on September 29, 2002, this show boasts not only an excellent setlist but sound quality to boot. I have no doubt this is a soundboard recording, so if you dig on great sounding bootlegs, you'll definitely want to pick this up. This show was in support to Demolition, which was released just five days prior. Sad thing is that he only performs one track off the record ("Nuclear"). But that's [...]

When I was a kid, my older brother had an album with a horse head and filing cabinet on the cover. It was an absolutely terrifying image for me, but every time I passed it while perusing his records, I couldn't help but stop and look at it… kind of like a car wreck. One day that curiosity led to placing that record on the turntable for a spin… the album was Wire's 1989 A Bell is a Cup… Until it is Struck. I had no idea who Wire was, but the songs stuck with me and [...]

I know that I use the word "epic" rather frequently here. The reason for this is because A) it's a great word, B) it suits many facets of music to a "T," and C) because it sounds cool and makes ME sound cool. So with this in mind, I'm going to use it again regarding the song, "A More Perfect Union," by Titus Andronicus. This 7-minute track doesn't seem like 7-minutes at ALL because of it's sheer epic-ness. There are two distinct halves to the song, which only adds to the epic-osity of it's [...]

It's a pretty gloomy Sunday morning here… don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for the rain, but if there's any way to rain and NOT be gloomy… well, that would be idea, wouldn't it? With this gloom comes the need to find just the right song to match. For me this morning, this track, "Winterbirds," by Strange Birds fits my mood like a glove. Consisting primarily of Aidin Sadeghi and Bret Leinen, Strange Birds comes out of Southern California, which means they are probably experiencing the same gloom I am this morning. I wonder [...]

Ahhh… another G.O.O.D. Friday track and all is well with the world. This week's track, "Take One for the Team," features a couple of artists that I've frankly never heard of. The first one is R&B singer Keri Hilson, who got her start as a songwriter with group of writers/producers known as The Clutch. This collective wrote songs for the likes of Britney Spears ("Radar"), Timbaland ("The Way I Are"), Menudo ("More Than Words (A E I O U)") and surprisingly enough, Chris Cornell ("Never Far Away" and "Part Of Me"). Hilson's debut album, [...]

Jagjaguwar is quickly becoming one of my favorite record labels, and this new track by Lia Ices is an excellent example why that is. We featured Ices' track, "Grown Unknown" back in August, so if you're wondering why her name sounds so familiar, well… there you go. "Daphne" is another track off Ices' upcoming album, Grown Unknown, and seems to fit how her label describes her: "With such overt elegance as if from a bygone era, listening to Ices' music inspires a psychic time slip, and its hard to know if you're wading in [...]
I've been meaning to post this remix for a few days now, but I haven't because I've been busy not posting it. That takes a lot of effort, people. Sleigh Bells released one of my favorite albums of the year so far, Treats (read our review here), so I was pretty thrilled to see that the track, "Tell 'Em," was remixed by Brooklyn-based DJ and producer, Kingdom. This remix takes "Tell 'Em" away from the hard hitting and punishing sound of the original. The beat stays relatively the same, but gone are the electric [...]
I've been obsessed with this song for the past 24 hours. Tired Pony's "Get on the Road" does just what I need a song to do for me right now… it takes me from an inner cage to a raging chaos… and in that chaos, there's the promise of a restoration of order… at least the possibility is there. One thing about singer Gary Lightbody and Iain Archer's songwriting is that they seem to love repetition. "Get on the Road" is a great example of this exercise. The opening verses are contain the [...]
I saw this a couple of nights ago and had to post it in case you all haven't seen it yet. I'm a fan of Conan O'Brien. I thought he got a bum deal with the whole Tonight Show incident, but I think he'll bounce back just fine if he continues to do stuff like this: Hit "play" to watch Conan O'Brien do the GREATEST STUNT EVER: HA HO HEE!!!!! Best part of the video? Tossing the sunglasses on the ground instead of hanging them on his shirt… [...]

It's been another week of weirdness for pal-o-mine, President "Kung-Fu" Pand-Obama. He had a book thrown at him, which wasn't so bad because the thrower only wanted to get Obama to give him some free advertisement… but the real whopper was that he discovered he's related to Sarah Palin (TheHuffingtonPost.com). Yes, he was stunned by the news. "I'm WHAT?" he texted me. "Yup, dude… you guys are 10th cousins." I replied. "You're lying." "Hey, don't blame this on me. Get this… you're also 11th cousins from George W. Bush! Take a [...]
Welcome to Day 3 of the Happy Meal Experiment WOO HOOOOO!!!!! Just 177 more days to go! Here's the pic of the platter: I'm moving this experiment off TheFrontloader.com to its new home at ToRotOrNotToRot.blogspot.com. This way these posts won't get in the way of this site's focus. I'm still taking the experiment to the end, so make sure to follow along!
I saw Guns N Roses way back when they were touring their Use Your Illusion albums. To this Chinese boy, they played an unforgettable show… well, it's hard to believe, but after 17 long years, Duff McKagan has finally reunited with his ex-bandmate Axl Rose (and current GnR members) onstage for a few songs. According to Sebastian Bach (who's on tour with GnR) the whole thing took place last night (October 14) at the O2 Arena show in London. Here's a few of the posts Bach made on Facebook: That's [...]
