Well, this is quite the Osar-category i know, but it's just a way for me to talk about 10 artists that i like, but just don't seem to fit in the top 50-list that is coming up after this post. (well, not immediately after it, somewhere this week). The albums of these people have their flaws, but they are promising enough to make me look forward excitedly to when they release their next album. So, without no further ado, here they are. DISCLAIMER: ok, first add this. The songs I add aren't necessarily my favourite of [...]

I must admit i don't spend that much time in selecting my album covers of 2008 as i spend time finishing the list of lists. Therefore, i sometimes end up selecting album covers that may not deserve to end up in this list, because there are way better looking artwork cd's out there. Then again, if there is one thing about lists that is certain, that is that they are temporary, useless, and futile. So, bearing that in mind, i present to you: the nicest album covers of 2008. [...]
So, here i am again, and i'll be going fast, cause i'm way too busy. I'm still working on the end-of-year-list (and persist in keep on yappin' about it), but i was cleaning up my room, and I found three mixtapes. In the meanwhile, i've bought a new car radio, so i don't have any use for the tapes. So why not giving them away?? If you want a cassette with some indie-music, just let me know at rozebanaan At hotmail and then you add the com. The three most originals mails will win. [...]

S o, by obliging myself to write about a novel, author or something else literary each wednesday, i've been limiting myself. Actually I should be able to write more than once a week about books, and i should be able not to write literature if i don't feel like it. The problem i have with this, is that it clearly shows in my stats that no one is interested in books. It could be because of my crappy choices, and my crappy writing about it (I can write, i just don't try hard enough [...]

Who? Findlay Brown What? Folk music, that sounds as if it's made by a seventies singer-songwriter Sounds like? Tim Buckley, a pinch of Nick Drake, and other guys from that time I'm gonna keep it short, cause i'm not feeling all too well, but i don't want to keep this blog not updated. I'm still working hard on my end-of-year-list, but realize that some albums aren't as good as i had thought... Next to that, a bit of autumn is slowly [...]

Who? Rachel Lipson What? Antifolk singersongwriter with a sweet voice Sounds like? Kimya Dawson but sweeter, Laura Gibson, BeatBeat Whisper I haven't checked it, but if i let my brain work and run through all the artists i've been bloggin about, i miss women. There was miss autopsy, who is not a woman but just calls himself one, and the wind whistles but that's partially man. So, Rachel Lipson. She has a website, but that hasn't been updated in [...]

Who? Timber Timbre What? Lo-fi soulful Blues/folk Sounds like? Sometimes it reminds me of Misophone. Bon iver without all the layers and without the howling, and Devendra Banhart like he sounded on Oh Me Oh My. oh, and Woods. Timber timbre is a band that i had on my computer for quite a while now, and just today i rediscovered it. While browsing through my media library I thought "well, look at this...no idea what that is". I put new music on my pc [...]
With a big mp3-collection, it's necessary that you have a good music library that gives an easy overview of all your songs. I use Ejay Virtual Music Manager 2007 (which is actually Helium 2007). And today it crashed ... AGAIN. It crashes all the time, there are no updates to be found, it's full of bugs... but if it works it's a great program.. I would like to use winamp, but that keeps crashing too (no idea why, i even uninstalled and re-installed). Itunes? Neih, i don't like it. Windows Media Player [...]

Who? Jorge Luis Borges What? Short stories that challenge your mind Must read? I'm reading it right now, but the stories "Pierre Menard, Author of The Quichote" and "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius" are astonishingly good. Actually I can't tell that much about Borges. I know that he turned sort of blind during his life, and that he wrote very symbolic stories, with lots of metaphores and surrealism. I've only recently got to know him (i bought an anthology), and read the stories 'Pierre Menard, Author of the [...]

Who? Paleo aka David Andrew Strackany What? 365 songs in a year's time, with a great mind of honesty Sounds Like? A mixture of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Bob Dylan & other indie-fucking-greatness like Ezra Furman & the Harpoons, Frog Eyes (acoustic version), The Robot Ate Me, Peter and the wolf, .. Paleo was a man with a plan. On the 16th April 2006 he started with his 365 days project. While touring in the US, he forced himself to record a song EACH day, with [...]
A few weeks (months?) ago, I wrote something exciting about Misophone , and when looking for information about the new album getting released, I found out they had put my post on their myspace. Best part? (p.s we're working on getting those other albums released) Labels, you should really really get these guys. I mean it. anyway, new album coming out in November. Just go to their label and wait till the order-button appears. Starting from Now. Posted in folk [...]

So, still not completey listened all records of 2008 (and new ones are added every day, damn frustrating hobby of mine), but i'm getting there. And i'm pretty sure that there are lots of records that just won't make the list, although all the indie kids are screaming that these records are the best in evolutionary history. But no, the following records that could've made into my list if I hadn't listened to them (meaning there were some expectations), didn't get into my holy realm: [...]

Who? Havergal What? slacker folk with dots of elektronica Sounds like? slowed down Postal Service sung by some pavement-fan, The prenatal Birth of Why? There once was a time, that there was a guy, that was called Havergal by many people in many nations. Havergal was a musician, who made music for the sad lonely indie kid who enjoyed his folk with a bit of modern electronics. He sang as if he didn't really care. Both songs down here are from his masterpiece 'Lungs [...]

What? Blindness by Jose Saramago About? A city where everyone turns blind all of a sudden and the horrible consequences A collegue told me today that the movie adaptation of the brilliant novel Blindness by Jose Saramago really sucked. I love movie adaptations. Most people think the book is better, because they always compare the two, even though the mediums are completely different. Anyway, i don't want to get too intellectual. Or maybe i do, cause Jose Saramago isn't an easy read. The lack of punctuation, except [...]

Who? Comus What? The first real Freakfolk band Sounds like? Irish Leprechauns holding some strange ritual druid parties near Stonehenge and the sun is just going under never to rise again. Ok, because i'm too busy listening to music from 2008, I decided not to blog about bands that have released something this year anymore until my list is complete and published. Old stuff (stuff from last year is old too by the way) is all it's about next month. So, let's start with really [...]

I checked it. Last year i had a list by the end of Oktober. What kind of list? A list of the best records of 2007 , and a list of the 9 best upcoming bands , and then 2 lists of the most beautiful and ugliest album covers . I even had a list of bands that wouldn't make my lists . Yep, lists is the keyword here. I've been spending the last three weeks relistening the 314 (!) albums of 2008 on my computer, taking into consideration that i [...]

Who? Raz Ohara & The Odd Orchestra What? Indie R & B Sounds like? A white soulsinger who listened too much indie music, The Notwist, the Go Find A short post, cause i'm bored and not really in the mood to blog (but i have to keep it up & running at least till i can present you the big 2008-list!) . Raz Ohara is a band from Berlin and i don't know why, but they remind me of R'nB music (just add [...]
I'm having trouble uploading songs on Fileden... There is a post ready, but don't wanna put it online without the songs...Maybe i'll try mediafire... Posted in General Mumbo Jumbo And the Queen of France Tagged: fileden, mediafire, misery
