Escape from Electric Mountain is a brilliant bit of departure from Feed Me's earlier electro-house driven EPs. You'll still get that trademark glitch-meets-dubstep sound, but you shouldn't be surprised to hear a fair amount of progressive house tracks mixed in with the bunch which are, frankly, a breath of fresh air. I really wish the intro swing of One Click Headshot continued throughout the song; it's a delicious bit of stomping that gives the entire track a much-needed groove. Comparisons will be drawn to Skrillex's 'Reptile' - some vocals sound directly sampled - and I guarantee a good [...]

In advance of his first full-length effort I interviewed Alex Syse, aka Basic Physics , so that you guys might get a taste of the man behind some of 20112s biggest and baddest blogosphere bootlegs. That's often a dirty word - bootleg - in this industry. It usually connotes a lack of originality, and almost invariably a lack of production quality. But Alex is breaking that mould, and constantly pushing the talent behind his very popular work forward. In just a year, he's come from receiving over a hundred thousand plays on his Ghost on a G6 [...]
![Hot new remix of Beastie Boys' classic "Sabotage" [MP3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4049435_lg.jpg)
Clockwork , also known as Henry Steinway from NYC, most well known for his remix of Avicii's "Levels", in honor of his 21st Birthday has remixed the Beastie Boys . He choose one my favorite Beastie Boys songs "Sabotage", and executed the remix with great style. Separate from the more electronic aspects of the track, he expertly mixes in the guitar riff intro of the original. The song starts off building up suspense, recycling a small sample of the guitar riff while accompanied with some basic snare and drum beats. Then further into the [...]
One night in January, I headed down to Maison Mercer, one of the most beautiful clubs in Toronto (with one of the best soundsystems to match) to catch performances by Jay Lumen and Sebastien Leger. Herein is a video account of that evening. ColeCo have been racking up the accolades in the last several months, taking care of all live programming for The Weeknd's upcoming tour as well as remixing for them, Torro Torro, Bedouin Soundclash, and Young Empires. They've supported The Magician, Com Truise, Fake Blood, and they played CMJ in NYC at the end of 2011. Finally, they just released a new single on Nervous, and have another upcoming on Kitsune in March. So I'm proud to announce that I'll be rocking a party with ColeCo on Friday February 10th in Toronto, at Riva Supper Lounge. Expect [...]

Beatport describes Passarella Death Squad's first album, Republic of Desire (released in 2010) as "electronica." It is such an anemic word, especially for the music it is meant to encompass. Republic of Desire defies genre, blending elements of shoegaze and minimal-electronic. Vice magazine called it the soundtrack "for those S&M soirees you're always thinking of hosting," and everyone and their dog seems to love comparing vocalist Emilie Albisser to a dark Marlene Dietrich (and rightly so). [...]

Popeska is a 19 year old Atlanta native by the name of Ralf who has a great take on dubstep, electro, and glitch music. For example, his track 'Lololololol' exhibits a very upbeat feel in the midst of its monstrous growling basslines. And then there's 'Oh!' which, I must assume, has a top comment on youtube that reads something like "dirtier than shit stained underwear." And then there is Firefly, a song that combines very trancey elements with a glass-scratching glitch beat, and which sounds reminiscent of Figure . Popeska is definitely a producer with some talent! [...]
So, I promised you last week that my new and improved weekly top ten charts weren't going to be the 'here r 10 kewl blog songz for free downloads guys LOLOLOL' lists which, those of you who have been following the site for a while, would be used to. I broke you guys in easy, with something familiar. Something that you're used to hearing on Salacious Sound, and something I'm used to writing about. Today's installment breaks from that form, somewhat. Don't say you weren't warned. This week I'm proud to present a format I explored [...]
To execute this monumental and frankly insane video, OK Go set up over 1000 instruments over two miles of desert outside Los Angeles. It took 4 months of preparation and 4 days of recording, and at no point did they use stand-ins. This version of Needing/Getting was recorded as they sang while playing the instrument array with the car. Preparation included stunt driving lessons, fitting of the Chevy Sonic with retractable pneumatic arms designed to play the instruments, and tuning each piano's lowest octaves to the same note so that they'd play the right note no matter where [...]
Our good friend Yale Fox recently took part in a TEDx conference, in which he spoke on his various research projects on nightclubs, music, and more. Check out the sentimental new video for Above & Beyond's "Love Is Not Enough" off of last year's stupendous Group Therapy LP. In case you missed it, Click here to find out where Group Therapy ranked amongst my top 50 electronic albums of 2011. I'll give you a hint: it's in the top 10 (duh). In addition to the new video, A&B have announced that they will release "Love Is Not Enough" as a single on March 19th. But wait that's not all! The single will be released alongside a full remix [...]

As I was the one who wrote the review for Skrillex's Bangarang EP, I felt it was my duty to inform all of you that there is a remix of Breakn' A Sweat that far outdoes the original, IMHO. Zedd (one of Skrillex's close friends/collaborators/protegé s) has made a mindblowing banger that takes Skrillex's foray into Moombahton and honestly kicks its ass. He brings it back up to dubstep tempo and adds his signature throaty wobble, and his intricate and cohesive synthwork over the whole track goes above and beyond many of his other productions. If this [...]
I first became excited about ADWR in late 2010, when they came out of the gates strong with a wicked remix of Dada Life's Unleash the F*cking Dada. The track, predictably, blew up as did their booking schedule, and ever since their productions have been ever increasing in quality. It looks as though the pair have branched out somewhat from their hard electro-dubstep origins, and have a variety of upcoming productions spanning the major bass genres of the moment (moombahcore, electro-dubstep, & electro house). They successfully pair the raviest of elements against more melodic [...]
For this week's edition of the Mixcast, I'm proud to feature Ant Brook's first podcast of the year. This one features a new track from the man himself, his usual top notch chart selections, and an unreal guest mix from 1605 label-boss Umek - a label we covered extensively in 2011, especially following the release of Pleasurekraft's Satyr Song. I can only think of (less than) a handful of artists regularly releasing high quality, regular podcasts - The Magician , Aeroplane , Designer Drugs , and of course [...]

Jeuce's As We Move remixes EP was released just five days ago with contributions from Kastle and Dirty Disco Youth. The Killabits also rack up a remix credit, and have seen their contribution rise through the Beatport Glitch Hop chart quickly. At the time of publication it's currently sitting at #12, and sure to raise higher, so a big congrats to the Toronto natives is in order. You can purchase the track here . For those who have seen these guys spin recently... There has been some talk as to why their track "Snake Charmer" was a lot more bumpin' than usual. Crizzly , one of the most notable new guys of 2011 hits us with a new mixtape dubbed (ha ha ha "dub") Crunkstep. His mastery of bass is impressive, and his crossover style raises the question "where will (the sound of) dubstep go?" He demonstrates a keen sense of rhythm in his remix of Aj Hernz's Snap Back Swag. The track's pre-drop excitement level is dizzying, and the drop delivers fully and satisfyingly. This new installment gives a taste of his previous work, while showcasing his growth as an [...]
Fresh off the announcement of the North American "With Teeth" tour (featuring a brand new stage show that looks absolutely amazing, frankly) Electro House and Dubstep artist Feed Me is releasing a brand new as of yet-untitled EP with Mau5trap Records on February 6th. He's been fairly active recently, what with his collaboration with Gemini and whispers of further collaborations with Datsik . This will be Feed Me's third EP and follow-up to 20112s "To The Stars". "One Click Headshot" and "Whiskers" are available to listen to on UKF's youtube page. [...]
It's the case that forward-looking and quality of production are properties of music that almost invariably sit on opposite ends of a spectrum, but Crosstown Rebels really broke that model in 2011 with a string of releases for artists such as Maceo Plex , Subb-an , Damian Lazarus , Soul Clap , Art Department , and Deniz Kurtel (to name just a few of the extremely talented musicians working with Crosstown Rebels). 2012 is going to be just as big - certainly, the bookings are rolling in for these artists now, [...]
