Interested in adding some philanthropy to your festival-going this summer? Check out All Good's latest announcement: The creation of a Grassroots stage, where $1 from every beer will go towards Headcount, Rock the Earth, the Rex Foundation, and Concious Alliance. The music starts early over at the Grassroots stage, to make sure that All Good's promise of no overlapping sets is kept. So far, the performance schedule for the new stage looks like this: Friday: Omega Love, Davisson Brothers Band Saturday: Jazzam, [...]

On June 2, Tea Leaf Green's acoustic alter-ego Coffee Bean Brown is set to release a live, acoustic record on their own Tea Leaf Green Partnership imprint. Called Coffee Bean Brown Comes Alive , the album was recorded at now-defunct NYC venue Mo Pitkin's and features the four-piece experimenting with acoustic guitars, piano, banjo, cello, mandolin and more. Since their formation in 1997, Tea Leaf Green has released five studio albums; what they're best-known for, however, are their live performances. Originally hailing from San Francisco, the band's sound is heavily [...]

This is the third article in a series of four: Diggin' 'Em Up, a walk through MMBS history. Written by the MMBS faculty adviser, Hugh Turner, this is the story of finding great guitar in the least likely of places. Originally published last May on the MMBS website. So one day, I am in the copy center in Van Munching dropping off something to be copied. This is maybe 3 years ago. The copy center has been Joe's for at least 3 or 4 years now. If you've [...]

If you weren't feeling the Ben Folds college acapella album we posted about at the beginning of the month, maybe you'll enjoy the taste of these fellows a little more. It's really fun. They even pretend to play the instruments they're singing. I like the tall guy who sings the bass most.

:: Artist Profile :: Artist Profile :: Artist Profile :: Artist Profile :: "This is refreshing. This might be beyond refreshing. This is like a tall, cool Arnold Palmer on a hot summer day. This is The Explorers Club. Let's break it down: This six-piece band hails from South Carolina. They make up one of the eight artists on their record label, Dead Oceans...but none of that is really important. [...]

I guess it turns out when they sang "Wilco will love you baby" they meant it, because the entire new album, Wilco (The Album), is streaming on their website. Listen here . Wilco (The Album) is out on Nonesuch on June 30.

Check out these pictures from Cursive and Man Man at the Black Cat on 5/3/2009. Also featured is opening act Andrew Wright. Enjoy!
This is the fsecond article in a series of four; "Diggin' 'Em Up", a walk through MMBS history. This first article, originally written last April by Joe Petro, is an analysis of an article published at The Morning News about the perfect length of a pop song. Over at The Morning News, contributing writer Joshua Allen has posted a sonic discovery that the perfect length for any pop song is 2:42. Interesting hypothesis, don't you think? Well, after Boston's More Than A Feeling dropped apple on Allen's head, [...]
This year's schedule is in All Good order for All Good 2009. Without overlapping sets, there are no conflicts or missed sets, and because the two stages are right next to each other, there's no stress about figuring out where you're going. Sets to watch out for: Kreutzmann > Dark Star on Sunday; Lotus late night on Thursday; and That 1 Guy>Galactic>That 1 Guy on Friday. With Bill Kreutzmann, Bob Weir, and Friend Jackie Greene around for the weekend - who's to say Mickey Hart and Phil Lesh won't drop by for a little [...]

Events panelists Dr. Curtis Grimm, Donna Westmoreland, and Casey Rae-Hunter Earlier this week, the Maryland Music Business Society had the privilege of hosting a discussion about the impending merge of Live Nation , the world's number one concert promoter, and Ticketmaster , which has ticketing rights to 80% of the country's stadiums and arenas. The schedule for this year's Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival was released on the festival website on Wednesday, and my brain has been scrambling since. Santigold at the same time as Grizzly Bear and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Crystal Castles during Phish's Friday late night? Girl Talk vs. Pretty Lights? Animal Collective at 2:45PM? Good thing we still have a month to figure this out. There are some pretty sweet things about the schedule, though, which is available at mindreader.bonnaroo.com . By logging in with your Facebook account, "Zoltaroo [...]

For more about the up-and-coming Pixie check out her website . Her first single " Mama Do " will be released on May 11.
I'm a fan. The people who make these are nuts. And hysterical. Careful T-Pain, Katie Couric is showing your auto-tuning up!

I'm a little ashamed that I didn't hear about Ben Folds's little innovative adventure earlier, but it's never too late to discuss an interesting tidbit of music news. On Tuesday, Ben Folds released his latest album Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella! I'm a pretty casual Ben Folds fan, but I thought this was a really cool idea. According to CNN and Steamboat Pilot , Ben Folds was browsing himself on YouTube and came across a ton of college a capella groups who had performed his songs. All the [...]
In January 2009, Live Nation ended its contract with Ticketmaster and launched its own ticketing service, threatening to depleteTicketmaster's revenue by at least 15 percent and leading the two companies into extreme competition. Just weeks later, the two companies proposed a merger, which, if permitted, will provide the single firm with dominant power over ticket sales and concert promotion in the United States. The music industry is currently in a heated debate as to whether or not this merger will benefit the industry. Come out to Frank Auditorium in Van [...]
