Apologies for the abrupt end to 2011's crop, and to be honest, that is not how I wanted to wrap up this silly little site. But a few factors are leading me to call it quits on being the end-all on Last Christmas cover collecting. It has been really pretty great and I want to thank everyone who has been interested and visited every year. Big thanks to the press we received each and every Christmas, it's quite amazing actually. Thanks especially to all the bands and artists who have contributed to our collection, your willingness to participate was key! [...]
Well isn't this a treat! The kind and spunky Greta Larson sent us an exclusive sneak peak at her new cover video for Last Christmas, which "officially" is released tomorrow. After you're done checking it out, head on over to Sonictribe to grab a copy of your very own.

Today is going to be short on words, heavy on tunes. Without further ado… Let's start with the one version that has never been done before. No other artist has attempted this genre, nor has anyone previously emailed me about this. I present, the Dead Cat Orchestra, performing Last Christmas done in the style of dead/dying cats, basically a dude wailing meows. (submitted by Jacob Nathan) Dead Cat Orchestra - Last Christmas Next we [...]

We're starting today with, well, a gummy bear. That sings. In yellow underpants. Gummibär is some kind of international kids singing sensation. Reminiscent of Crazy Frog, but a little less annoying kind of. I am just more perplexed by Gummibär than anything else. Why is he always in underwear? And if it's for kids, why is he singing "Do you think I'm sexy?" Is this for adults? Maybe, there are a ton of club mixes for his songs...And why did Felix the Cat agree to do a duet with this whippersnapper? His videos have millions of hits but [...]

Saskatchewan aren't just another boy band from Orlando, despite what they would have you believe. Like Ennui, they dabble in that lo-fi hazy guitar sound, which is easily enjoyed often and on repeat. Their cover sounds like it might have been recorded on the surface of a 1960's imagining of Venus, if that makes any sense. It does to me anyways. This comes from the free Hey, It's Christmas! album but we found them via Santas Working Overtime . They're also having a sale on their bandcamp site where you can [...]

Good day to you! Let's get started, shall we? We start with Japanese duo Q;indivi and their cover from 2009's Winter Celebration album. Fan and LC reader wohdin sent this last year, and we're just now getting to it, the shame! It's an upbeat, fun version without being obnoxious, which as we all know is a fate that many a cover song can suffer. Wohdin would like it to be know that this duo is worth more attention than they receive, so please check them out and support their music! I have to say their site [...]

This is what it's all about folks. Giving and sharing. And Mr. Kirkness himself was kind enough to send us his version of "Last Christmas" directly. The Canadian country crooner says it's his long-time favorite Christmas song despite, George Michael's un-countriness, and was the natural choice for his first holiday single. But I welcome this with open arms, we don't get too many country influenced covers here at Last Christmas HQ! Jason Kirkness - Last Christmas More from Jason at his website linked above and [...]

We've said it before and we'll say it again. We love mashups. Have you been getting your free Santastic mashup albums? Well why not? That's no excuse. Anyways. First up we have Alex Chinnici with Madonna smashing up on "Last Christmas." Not a whole lot of info seems to be available on this. Send us any info if you know about this track. Chinnici feat. Madonna - Hung Up Last Christmas Next we have a funny [...]

Oh my goodness. Six years ago, without much thought behind it, myself and a friend decided to offer to the world an unnecessary and unasked for gift in the form of an uncurated collection of covers of Wham!'s holiday standard "Last Christmas." Besides underestimating the number of people who'd be interested in such a thing, we never thought it would lead to various radio and blog interviews, an MTV news interview, hanging out with bands, or even being interviewed for a graduate thesis on the topic of cover songs. Even more impressive is [...]
All the individual song links from years past have been stripped. We'll have all new ones starting tomorrow. If you wish to catch up though (and think you can handle it), check out the yearly packs on the right hand side. Right over there, see them? Those have every song from every year, all 463 up to this point. Brush up, we have some doozies this year. And don't forget, if you or your band have covered "Last Christmas," let us know!
Hang onto yer britches everyone, we're not through yet!
We hope its great for everyone! More tunes to come!

Apologies for the small break while we were right in the thick of things! While most of you will have little concern for this tiny bit of news, my brother recently graduated from UK with a PHD in food science, so we took some time to celebrate his new doctor-hood. However, during that time, I was lucky enough to talk with Afentra from 96.5 the Buzz in Kansas City during her Big Fat Morning Buzz show. Thanks so much for the opportunity and the support over the years! Longtime readers will note [...]
We have two big "thank yous" to dish out, the first to one of our biggest supporters, Whitney over at USA Today's Pop Candy. She has given us a shout out every year since we started! Thanks Whitney! And if you ever rub elbows with GM, tell him we say "Hello." The Holidays are here...and so is Last Christmas Second goes to our good friend Elizabeth at Forces of Geek for a brilliant write up of our ongoing archive. I can attest to more than 3 [...]

I'm a huge fan of bands releasing holiday singles, even if only online for their fans to grab. I've got a soft spot for Rooney's pop/rock sound, so you can imagine how tickled I was to find they are offering three holiday tracks with any purchase from their online shop! Hurry over and get a Rooney cd for a friend who doesn't know them or a shirt for yourself and then enjoy the free tracks! Oh, and of course one of those tracks is "Last Christmas!" Personally, I favor their version of "Little Saint Nick" because it's more [...]
I think we can make this happen also, by the power of gresykull, with our powers combined, I AM CAPTAIN PLANET ! Er wait, no, by the power of Twitter, we can convince Leona Lewis to cover "Last Christmas" and distribute it! She's currently taking suggestions and LC is a top contender, let's see if we can sway this vote! Twitter Fans In Leona Lewis Christmas Hit Choice Here's Leona's Twitter page, suggest away!

I'd like to think we have something to do with this phenomenon... "Recent trend suggests Wham's classic 1984 track Last Christmas is the most downloaded Christmas song, the track written by George Michael was one of the bands most successful tracks..." Full article below, but why they have an image of Adam Lambert up in place of GM, I dunno... Last Christmas The Most Downloaded Christmas Song @contactmusic.com UPDATE : And this was just brought to our attention, but according to the Guardian, [...]

So I was not familiar with the stylings of Swearing at Motorists prior to hearing their slow, melancholic version they offered last free last year and thought they offered a nice version. So I looked them up on Wikipedia and I think someone in the band is having fun with their entry, otherwise I have no idea what this means: Doughman mixes trace amounts of his own blood into the ink used in the disc printing process, pioneering the concept of the GrisD. Rumors persist that there was confusion over the term "serious chops" [...]
