La Luna and Werle and Stankowski

La Luna and Werle and Stankowski La Luna is hot . How hot you ask? She was nominated Miss Belgian Beauty last year, how 'bout them apples? She also delivers a pretty rompin' dance version of our namesake. La Luna - Last Christmas I almost feel like this version encompasses all that we feel about this song; It's not so much about the song's meaning or relating to it, but it's as if Werle & Stankowski recorded this just because it's "Last Christmas." It's a really fun light jangly [...]

Solace, Griffin, Campbell and Frank

Solace, Griffin, Campbell and Frank I think this is a first. Two covers by one band, not remixes. Way to go guys! Another plus is that they only record Christmas music. The first is a fun acoustic cover full of hijinx. It would seem that just a hint of the magic led them to do a more proper cover soon after that, thus version two, which is a little more difficult to classify. Their daring to try two covers earns them a Magical Snowflake! Corporate Solace - Last Christmas [...]

Plas-tick, Ryan Creed, Pork Band

Plas-tick, Ryan Creed, Pork Band We'd like to start by thanking The Walrus for doing a fun interview with us the other day. The Walrus has a lot of fun posts ranging from '60s psych rock to new indie stuff to anything else you need to know about. Check 'em out! And while we might have embellished a little about upcoming interviews with Fox News and MSNBC , we do have some other treats coming this year that we're super excited about. Stay tuned! And if you're so inclined, listen in on KNDD [...]

Big Mix 4

How to Play Minor Chords and Last Christmas on piano
So we're past the 200 mark. That should count for something, right? Looking back to when we crossed the 100 track mark , we were right around 7 hours of music. Now, at 200 tracks, we're at about 14 hours. What does it all mean?? Here's something nice: Whitney from USA Today's Pop Candy featured us again this year! And she even supported our long-time dream about a Shatner/Aguilera "Last Christmas" duet! (I know that sounds silly on paper, but seriously can you imagine how awesome that pairing would be?) [...]

Basswood Dollies, The Faded Flower and Volta Masters

Basswood Dollies, The Faded Flower and Volta Masters This is electronic, a bit chiptune-ish even. It's not fast like many of the electronic versions we've posted; it's slow, steady, confident. It sort of reminds me of that Knife song, Heartbeats. This comes from the Electric Fantastic Xmas album from Klicktracks which you can get for $1.50! You can also find Basswood Dollies' new single on itunes . Basswood Dollies -Last Christmas- A new rock version for you rockers. This is a slow rocker though, Like [...]

Cloud 9, Taylor Swift and Valentin Movtosky

Flyff Christmas video entry3
Strap in, here we go: We received this version the day after we ended our postings last year, so we didn't get to add it to the count until now. It was brand new when it was sent to us, so it's had a year to mature and here's what we think...it's great! You could probably call this pop and dance, though those terms aren't mutually exclusive. As far as we know, this is the only place you can find it! EXCLUSIVE Cloud9 [...]

You guys give up, or you thirsty for more? [2]

Well, well, well. I'll bet you thought 192 was the best we could do. You thought to yourself, "These guys are freakin' awesome, but I doubt there's enough steam in the 'ole Wham-wagon to go one more round." Well, you're partially right - we are awesome. And to be honest, we were pretty Whammed-out after last year. But not enough to falter in our duties to you, our dearest readers. Like the US Postal Service, our holiday promise of a month full of "Last Christmas" still stands.

Summer Time!

Well, I must admit, I'm impressed. We haven't updated since the day after Christmas and we're still getting visits, comments, and even a couple new versions of "Last Christmas" in the ole email inbox (thanks also goes out to those who, in the spirit of giving, gave our inbox buttloads of spam).

Aftermath: Last Christmas [4]

So, there you have it. 192 versions of "Last Christmas." But what have we learned from all this? Well, we've learned that people really want to dance to "Last Christmas," and that the song can be sorta fun. We've learned that people around the world love this song, particularly people in Germany. But what is the appeal of romantic rejection at Christmastime? What about the heartbreak and forlorn love discussed in the lyrics? The speaker reminds us frequently that he was denied by his would-be-lover on the day after Christmas. The repetition [...]

Merry Christmas!

Pretty much all of today's songs are thanks to Jim Fazi and John Martz. Between the contributions from the two of them and Sweeping the Nation, and Mike Wood, we are able to gift you 23 new versions today bringing out final count to 192 and final running time to 13 hours 38 minutes and 16 seconds! We'll fill in the blanks later, but so as to not delay the final count while we spend time with our families, we present them with only minimal commenting. Enjoy! Also please note that this is [...]
