Hello folks, I haven't put up much of late. But I promise to make up for that now. Settle in for three of my favourite new bands, I hope you like them: The Pomegranates are a band from Cincinnati and came to my attention from those good guys at WOXY radio station . Before we get onto the band, WOXY is easily the best station I have heard in a very long time and they have loads of ace sessions up on there for your enjoyment including some lovely National, Okkervil River and The [...]
David and Holly are lovely eggs. They like to play music together and share a drink (although David doesn't like Strongbow anymore. It doesn't agree with him.) Holly likes books and historical things. David doesn't like books and historical things so much. He prefers cine light shows and fixing things that are broken. Oh, and collectibles. Is this anything to do with the music? Why but of course. This (my dear Watson) tells you everything and nothing all at once. The Lovely Eggs - Have You Ever Heard [...]
It has been a few weeks since I last posted but in truth I've not found any new or interesting music for awhile. In fact, I haven't listened to a great deal of songs in recent weeks. I seem to opt for the spoken word podcast on my iPod and TV, film or literature has kept me occupied at home when it's needed. I've not desired at all to listen to an album. I often go through these phases, yet I don't know if it's an odd trait I've developed or something a lot more common. I know tomorrow or [...]
Hallo everyone, my name is Jessica and I am Peter's girlfriend. I am going to tell you a small tale about the blossoming of our relationship. I wowed Peter with my love of all things 'Indie' (The Mountain Goats are my favourite band, I have Geogaddi by Boards of Canada on vinyl), then when I had won him over to my alternative ways, I revealed my one true love…rubbish pop music! It started with Leona, then Rhianna and before I knew it I dredged back all the Boyzone memories I had tried so hard to repress. Anyway [...]
Just a quick one to complete my trio of "What I've been listening to" posts before we get cracking again on new music. A couple of months ago I went to a free gig (thanks to my friend getting me guestlist - Nice one!) which I couldn't turn down. The headline band was Cut Off Your Hands, who I suspected I would dislike. I wasn't wrong. They were terrible but with three supports, I was sure I would enjoy at least one of them. I wasn't wrong. I can't recall who the other two [...]
So the plan is basically to crack on with lots of new stuff from September onwards but before let's go over the great and the good who have been making us smile/dance/whatever since we got lazy. This may be a lengthy post but please take the time to listen to these people because they are all great...promise! Once you have enjoyed the MP3s we have kindly put up, please go buy the albums. I think for a small artist it is vital to invest in their music. Laura [...]
Being from Kendal, I find it very odd when something from this small market town on the edge of the Lake District makes it into the limelight of the nation. British Sea Power are one example- a truly magnificent band which I've recently claimed to be my favourite in the whole wide world. Maybe the hometown connection helps. Their love of foliage, Czech beer, stuffed birds, Russian literature, brilliantine and polar exploration all make perfect sense to me. Although they can produce grandiose pop songs, they can still be classed as "eccentric" at times. The second [...]
Hello blog fans, I too am very sorry for how far we let this thing fall away. Again I would like to hide behind the same two reasons. 1) Flat move 2) Euro 2008. The good news is, the flat is immense and the football was a thing of beauty. It's a shame the Russians and the Dutch couldn't perform for the whole tournament but the Spaniards were deserved winners. Plus after last nights England showing, hopefully we will never qualify for another major competition. In terms of television ITV were probably far more enjoyable [...]
We are terribly sorry that it's taken us two months to return to this. I know how much our three readers are disappointed. (If they noticed.) Normal service will resume from today, with the first of three updates from myself about my favourite new bands I've listened to while I've been away from the blogging. First up is The War On Drugs. The War On Drugs - Arms Like Boulders I must [...]
You may have noticed the lack of updates recently. There is a perfectly good reason for this. At least I hope you see it as a good reason. We've been very occupied lately. I've had to devote a lot of time to exams, which I completed last week. We've both had to look for somewhere new to live (as we move out at the end of the month) and I think we've finally found somewhere which is great news and a big relief. You can expect another disruption as we settle into the new place and get the Internet etc [...]

This week's mixtape is on the theme Power. Which to me is way too similar to Energy a few weeks ago. So instead of basing the songs on power, I'm basing them on Phil "The Power" Taylor. Power Snap! - The Power . Philip Douglas Taylor (born August 13, 1960) is a multi world champion darts player. His nickname is The Power. His 13 World Championship titles and over 45 [...]
Orphans And Vandals are a five piece from London that heavily revolve around front man and poet Al Joshua. Songs are usually over 7 minutes long as Al's half spoken lyrics tell us a narrative we all want to hear to this man's beautiful tales. Behind him, the violin and viola whine and reverberate, the percussion emphasises the importance of the words and the harmonium, musical saw, bass guitar and everything else included in the story is steady and faultless. Orphans And Vandals - Terra Firma [...]
You lucky lucky people. There was very nearly not a Pete's Song of the Week but inspiration found me in the wee small hours of Friday morning so here I am to dazzle you some more. I had decided not to just blast out a post unless I had really found a song that had hit me but this one arrived just in time. It was last night as I returned home from a gig that Good Arms Vs Bad Arms by Frightened Rabbit was chosen and since then it has been running round my head constantly and [...]
Hello readers, the football was good last night wasn't it? I'm bored of it already. Though by the time the Euro championships pop round I will be in desperate need of some soccer. In the mean time let's go meet a new band eh? Abe Vigoda are from LA and part of it's happening Smell scene which features amongst others Mika Miko, The Mae Shi, Barr & No Age. The band claim to be playing some sort of 'tropical/pop/punk' which actually is not all that far from the truth. [...]
I promise this is the last Bon Iver post for a while. Jool Holland on Friday... We will pop some ATP goodness up later and some other new stuff. But tonight is the Most Serene Repulblic with The Search Map and Spokes. Dreamy.
Must not choose another Pavement song...must not....must not. Ah a song that references Pavement? That will do. Hello and welcome to Pete's Song O' The Week. I am leaving for ATP in a few hours so needed to get this done a day early. Anyway the song in questions is Parakit by the mighty Suburban Kids With Biblical Names . Suburban Kids With Biblical Names - Parakit Now I probably [...]
Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend the super cool All Tomorrow's Parties curated by Pitchfork. Rather than ramble through a weekend featuring some amazing bands, teddy picker games and a whole heap of sand, I thought I would just prompt you to my three favourite performances of the weekend and then go sit in the garden with some ice cold Vimto . Bon Iver - Upstairs room on Saturday Close followers of ALE and I imagine that we must have one by [...]
Beneath Fire And Smoke - Sometimes The fire started with the flick of a candle and a wisp of the wind, provided more than adequately from the open bay window. The velvet portiere smouldered and within a flash had engulfed in dark flames. The smoke detector had not been checked in months, possibly years. Three careless, thoughtless actions were all it took. The fire showed no mercy and never looked back. It enjoyed the freedom, free from the wick it [...]

Sunday Night Sunday Night, 30 th March – The Most Serene Republic – Multiplication Desks . Yep this is a mess. It's happened gradually. I didn't see it coming but I knew it could always happen. A second thought, it's not as much as a mess as initially imagined. I must be careful from now on. It's easy to exaggerate things I've learned. Sunday Night, 6 th April – Casiotone For [...]
