New OutKast album coming

NME reports that OutKast are planning to release a new album sometime in 2010 if both Big Boi's and Andre 3000's solo albums (which are due early 2010) are "well received". Big Boi's solo album is completed and is entitled Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty , but it does not have a release date yet. Here's the only track that's been released: Nothing on Andre's album yet. Related posts: Mick Boogie x Peter Bjorn and John - "Just [...]

Tape Deck Mountain - “Scantrons”

Tape Deck Mountain - “Scantrons” mp3: Tape Deck Mountain - "Scantrons" Well this is appropriate. I'm (taking a break from) studying for my psychology final that is tomorrow morning that just happens to be a scantron test. Not that that's the reason why I'm posting this... or unconsciously maybe it is. Anyway, "Scantrons" is the first song off their debut album Ghost which came out last month. I first heard of these guys from their song "Ghost Colony" , which I like a little more than this, but my point is [...]

Video: Pearl Jam’s full set at Austin City Limits 2009

Just caught this over at PBS . In this ~intimate venue they're a little more relaxed, starting the set off with a couple slow ones. They pick up the pace though as you'd expect, and the overall effect makes good for background music for whatever. I saw a decent amount of their set at Bonnaroo two years ago, and I have to say they are great live. I had to leave early so I could be front row for Lupe and Talib though (which happened! I have pics to prove it... [...]

Animal Collective’s ‘ODDSAC’ to debut at Sundance 2010

For the past two years, the band has been working on a 'visual album', and it's set to debut this January at the Sundance Film Festival . Guitarist/singer Avey Tare had the following to say about it: "It's kinda like a psychedelic film , it's not like a narrative film or anything... There are more cohesive moments in it, but then there are some that are a little more abstract." "We tried to make the music go along with the visuals as much as possible... We didn't want it to sound just like a soundtrack, [...]

Beach House - “Norway” + album leaks

Beach House - “Norway” + album leaks mp3: Beach House - "Norway" (128 kbps) "Norway" is the second song released from the band's upcoming album, following the "Used To Be" 7" which came out back in October. Teen Dream (artwork above) is out Jan. 26 although it leaked online a couple weeks ago (I normally don't announce leaks but Teen Dream sounds like a must-have for winter break). However if you do decide to buy it, you'll get a DVD with [...]

Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV

Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV Back in May of last year, Ghosts was released unannounced under the Creative Commons license on the NIN website. It's 36 instrumental tracks that Trent Reznor said were intended to be a "soundtrack for daydreams". Buy the whole thing for $5 or download volume I for free here . Aphex Twin “Flim” covers

While browsing around for some Aphex Twin covers, I came across some really great interpretations of "Flim" , one of his most simple and satisfying tunes. The first one is courtesy of The Bad Plus , a jazz trio which takes a pretty literal approach to the song, improvising mostly in the drums: The second is a smooth, guitar cover: And again: And saving the best for last: If you're new to [...]

The Notwist - “Boneless” (Grizzly Bear remix)

I was happy enough to see Grizzly Bear and The Notwist in the same sentence, and then I saw that it was a remix for "Boneless", my favorite song off their latest album The Devil, You + Me . The original single + Panda Bear remix came out over a year ago but I don't think fans of either band will mind the delay: Download: The Notwist - "Boneless" (Grizzly Bear remix) (mp3) [via GvB ] Related posts: [...]

Eastern Approaches

Eastern Approaches This Californian post-rock quintet changed their name to Memory Engine earlier in the year and disbanded soon after, but as with all (released) music their legacy lives on! Their debut EP is a little over a year old, and despite the amateur production I'm sure it got, dang it sounds good. You can get it for free  here in low(er) quality, or you can order the physical CD at their website . I know what I would do... Also, a few unreleased Memory Engine tracks are streaming at their MySpace . Happy rocking! [...]

Portugal. The Man - “Do You” Music Video

This is one of those bands where it doesn't matter where in their discography you start because all their music is pretty similar (and really good!). Their newest album The Satanic Satanist is a nice progression for them, their latest two albums being my favorites. They've slowly gained a fanbase, earning a show at Bonnaroo last year that I was lucky enough to see (part of). The music video for "Do You" off The Satanic Satanist is surprisingly abstract and crazy, but I can't say that's a bad thing: [...]

Nightmares on Wax - “Da Mess Sticks”

Here's an older track from Warp veteran Nightmares on Wax aka DJ EASE. His 2006 7" single Flip Ya Lid came with this track as the b-side. It's a downtempo/chill-out tune with some real nice bongos or something as the propeller. Nightmares on Wax - "Da Mess Sticks" Hear more at the band's website , blog , or MySpace . Deftones news recap + “Rocket Skates” Live

Deftones news recap + “Rocket Skates” Live For being one of my favorite bands, I really don't post deftones stuff that much. Part of the reason is that they don't release new material that often, and the other part sadly is that bassist Chi Cheng has been in a coma for about a year now after being in a bad car accident. Apparently he is out of serious condition though and has been able to walk around, but that is not confirmed. After releasing several amazing nu-metal albums in the '90s and 2000's (and facing a near break-up in 2005), the deftones veered towards a [...]

DJ Shares - The Knife “Heartbeats” vs. Jay-Z & Rihanna “Run This Town”

DJ Shares - The Knife “Heartbeats” vs. Jay-Z & Rihanna “Run This Town” This is the first I've heard from DJ Shares who resides in Denver/Boulder CO. This isn't by any means the slickest or surprising remix in the world, but for once I think you can judge a song by it's title. It gets a little sketchy at points, in the chorus especially as it doesn't match up very nicely, but still if you like both of these songs you're sure to have some liking for this. Link below. The Knife “Heartbeats” vs. Jay-Z ft. Rihanna & Kanye “Run This [...]

Bonnaroo holiday pre-sale information

As usual, the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival is going down the second weekend of June in Manchester, TN and although it's way too early for any artist announcements, they've decided to put up their pre-sale early for the holidays: 11/27 at noon . if you are pretty sure you're going to go, I highly recommend buying your ticket early. If you can't go, you can always sell your ticket on eBay. They usually sell for face value right around the time of the festival. No info on prices yet, so just mark your calendars and head [...]

Beak>

After it took Portishead ten years to make their third album, their output is picking up at a rapidly. Geoff Barrow hooked up with Billy Fuller and Matt Williams to form the band Beak>, and their debut album is pretty awesome. It's got some Deerhunter aesthetic to it in the drums and bass ("I Know" especially), which is why I said I'd call it Atlas Sound day... well, I guess Deerhunter day would make more sense. Whatevs. I'd label the album as progressive rock, but it has a lot of slower moments, so maybe just rock [...]

Video: Atlas Sound - “Quick Canal” (feat. Lætitia Sadier)

I guess you can call it Atlas Sound day on musicleech. Been posting slowly lately because of school work, but I do have one other thing I want to share today. Will post it right after this. Anyway, this is the video for Atlas Sound's epic 8-minute crescendo "Quick Canal" featuring Stereolab's Lætitia Sadier on vocals. It mostly follows around an American family through daily activities like cooking toast (exciting, right), and it's relaxing if not nostalgic. The leaked version of Logos (which I confess to having heard) had the instrumental of this [...]
