Two words: he’s back. Following a yearlong stint at Coral Reef Academy in Samoa, Earl Sweatshirt, Odd Future’s prodigal son has finally returned. Prior to this exile, the young Earl was wildly hyped up as one of hip-hop’s best rising emcees for his technical rapping abilities and mastery of assonance and multisyllabic rhymes. Following the release of his latest track “Chum” in early November, it appears as though all the accolades may not have been in vain. While Earl’s earlier work was characterized with violent and graphic content, “Chum,” offers a drastic change in subject mater for the young emcee. [...]
By: Christian Carranza-Walter Ever since I was in middle school, I have loved Jay-Z. Loved Jay-Z. I still remember the day I got have my hands on a copy of The Blueprint. I remember bumping that album for hours, son! I had every lyric to every song memorized down pat after only a week, from Takeover, to Heart of the City, to Girls, Girls, Girls (I got a chick from Peru, that sniff Peru, she got a cousin at customs that get shit through…I’m Peruvian so hearing that as a kid got me so amped), Renegade (a song [...]

"Royalty" features a whole host of guest appearances from people like Beck, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Bun B, Ghostface and Danny Brown. New music video by electronic/chillwave great and Princeton, N.J. native Com Truise for "Terminal," a track from his 2011 debut EP, Galactic Melt . The video does an amazing job of incorporating an 802s style DOS computer command line interface into everything. I vaguely remember using that, way back when. Anyway, check out the latest below:

Super excited for the sequel to 20092s Blackroc , a collaborative album between indie rockers The Black Keys and various hip-hop stars. Blakroc 2 is slated to feature some of the hottest names in hip-hop including Talib Kweli, U God, Jay Electronica, OC, Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, Jim Jones, Sean Price, & The Cool Kids. Check out the teaser after the jump.

Indie-folk band Bon Iver just released the official music video for their hit song "Holocene," which is a track off of their self-titled sophomore album. Personally, "Holocene" isn't one of my favorite Bon Iver songs (I much prefer "Perth," Minnesota, WI," & "Michicant"), so naturally I'm not a huge fan of the video. Nevertheless, it's a well crafted video that's quite fitting for "Holocene." Bon Iver is slated to begin their North American tour in September, followed by a European one in October and November.

Rapper/producer Hoodie Allen just released his latest mixtape titled Leap Year . The 22-year old former Google employee has a sound and persona that's reminiscent of Asher Roth, Sam Adams, or duo Chiddy Bang. Some of the best tracks on Leap Year include "Song for an Actress," "The Chase is On," and "#WhiteGirlProblems." Hoodie Allen is currently about to embark on a nation-wide tour, lasting through the end of August. Stream or download the mixtape below. DOWNLOAD : Hoodie [...]

Check out the new music video for the song "Truth" by Alex Ebert aka Alexander. If his voice sounds familiar to you, it's because he's also the lead singer of the band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes and Ima Robot. "Truth" is one of those ultra-catchy songs that gets stuck in your head for days- kind of like " Home ." The video for "Truth" is pretty strange- but that's to be expected I guess. It features an array of beards and lots of white body paint. Take a look after the jump. [...]

Here it is, a second taste of the upcoming collaborative album Watch the Throne between Kanye West and Jay-Z ( H.A.M. being the first of course ). "Otis," named after the late, great Otis Redding, features heavy sampling of the soul singer's 1966 song " Try a Little Tenderness ." As expected, Kanye and Jay-Z showcase their lyrical prowess on this old-school sounding track. Noticeably absent is a drum beat, auto-tune, and heavy bass that typically have been accompanying the hip-hop tracks of late. The result is a raw, unfettered hip-hop track that's destined to go [...]
![Kanye West feat. Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj – Monster Music Video [Official]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3494109_lg.jpg)
Back in December, portions of Kanye's "Monster" music video were leaked , much to our delight. We were shown a very dark, macabre kind of music video complete with hanging corpses, beheadings, and S&M. Now, with the release of the official video for the hit single off of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy , we get to see English director Jake Nava's work as it was meant to be seen (and it's more twisted than we could have imagined).

Check out the new track by Diplo and French DJ Douster titled "ON!" As one might expect, it's got some outrageous beats complemented with a few samples like The Beatles' A Day in the Life . Diplo's been hard at work as of late. Just last week, he released a preview of a new track with mega-producer Steve Aoki . Diplo & Douster - ON ! by diplomaddecent

Here's the latest from Mr. Cudi — an official music video for Marijuana, a track off of Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager . If you needed any more proof that Kid Cudi loves smoking, look no further. The video, shot and directed by Shia LeBeouf of Transformers fame, gives us a grainy peek into Cudi's escapades at a party featuring a mariachi band, an Amsterdam coffee shop, the infamous Red Light District, and finally, performing on stage.

Canadian indie rock band Broken Social Scene recently performed their rendition of Modest Mouse's hit 2004 song "The World at Large." They did it in conjunction with The Voice Project , which is a non-profit that raises money for women in war-ravaged Northern Uganda. The Voice Project works by getting artists to cover other artists songs and continuing one long chain of covers. The artists thus spread the word about the non-profit and advertisers, sponsors, and individuals donate on their site. The video gives a glimpse into what it's like to be Broken Social Scene [...]

Check out the latest music video from NYC-based math-rock band Battles. The video is for their single "Ice Cream" which is a cut off of their upcoming summer album Gloss Drop . "Ice Cream" is a super catchy track that just might turn Battles into a household name. If Gloss Drop is anything like Battles' 2007 album Mirrored , I'm going to be one of the first to scoop it up - Mirrored definitely has a special place in my heart as one of the top 5 albums to emerge from 2007. [...]

Chillwave artist Neon Indian, aka Alan Palomo, has released a teaser trailer for his upcoming new album. Post-rock instrumental band Explosions in the Sky have released the follow-up to their hit 2007 album All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone . Take Care, Take Care, Take Care is Explosions in the Sky at their absolute best. I've been listening to the album for the past day or so, and its one of my new favorites. Definitely give this a listen. You can stream it live from their site. LISTEN : Take Care, Take Care, Take Care by Explosions in the Sky

Okay, Foo Fighters aren’t exactly indie (the album cover sure looks it though-), but they are a band you should probably care about, regardless of your nit-picky sub genre preferences. Wasting Light , the group’s seventh studio album, is due out on April 12th. The record casts an interesting light on the group's honed formula with a visceral analog production job courtesy of Butch Vig (known for his defining work on Nirvana's multi-platinum Nevermind ). The first couple tracks are rocking pretty hard- it’s a relief to [...]

A new track by French electro duo Justice has been released onto the internet. It was ripped from an upcoming Adidas commercial, which is why there are a few odd sound effects thrown in there. "Civilization" is the first single off of Justice's upcoming sophomore album. After listening to this track, I'm convinced that Justice is back and better than ever. Can't wait for the release of the album.
