I've got 4 passes and 4 movie posters to give away randomly to the people who comment on this post by Midnight Pacific time tonight, Sunday, May 2nd . There's not much time left to see the movie, it's only in theaters until May 6th I think, and some theaters only had it last weekend, so look up the local show times at Phish3DMovie.com > Theaters and make sure there's a showing near you Wednesday [...]

Monday I posted the first disc of a bootleg of Ryan Adams playing Grateful Dead songs . Today I've just updated that post with disc 2 of the collection featuring Wharf Rat, St. Stephen, Bertha, Franklin's Tower, China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider, Stella Blue, and Ripple. The tracks were all collected from live shows throughout 2005 and 2006, some from Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, and some from live shows with Ryan Adams joining Phil Lesh & Friends. Here's a repeat of the tracklist, or you can just go download a .zip of the disc 2 [...]

"The Grateful Dead: Now Playing at the New York Historical Society" is being presented between now and July 4th in NYC. If you have the chance to visit be sure to check it out, it looks fascinating. From the New York Times , by Larry Rohter: The Grateful Dead performed the last of their more than 2,300 concerts in 1995 and thus belong increasingly to history, not the present. Two related events make that reality clear: a new exhibition about the band that has just opened at the New-York Historical [...]

So, one of my absolute favorite sources for live shows online posted another gem today: A collection of Ryan Adams live recordings chronicling his covers of the Grateful Dead. It appears to have been compiled by Chris Goodwin over at RyanAdamsArchive.com . Adams fans will recall him playing a number of shows with Phil Lesh in the past, but this is a 2-disc collection of highlights from his shows with Phil Lesh, with The Cardinals, and his solo work. The first disc has been posted and the 2nd disc will be posted next week. Here's what we've [...]
YouTube user iamhydrogeno2 has assembled an awesome collection of Muppet band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem covering a TON of Phish songs, including Cavern, Llama, and Birds of a Feather. Not only that, but he's got more videos, including Jim Henson's Muppet Band, and Count von Count from Sesame Street singing Scents and Subtle Sounds. Most of these only have a couple hundred views and a few were just posted yesterday, but they're all awesome: Cavern Birds of a Feather [...]

Gnarls Barkley Billboard just released their list of the top 24 one hit wonders of the decade . Obvious choices include Daniel Powter with "Bad Day," James Blunt with "You're Beautiful," and Gnarls Barkley with "Crazy." And personally, I'm not sure if I think Lou Bega really qualifies, since the song came out in 1999... NEW YORK (Billboard) – They came, they conquered ... they were never heard from again. After reaching the Hot 100's Top 10 with their very first singles, none of these acts managed to crack the [...]

Phish: The Biography by Parke Puterbaugh Somewhere in the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving week I completely forgot that Phish: The Biography was released last Tuesday (Nov. 24th). I just received my copy in the mail and have had a chance to thumb through it, and thought in light of Phish's amazing thanksgiving weekend , I should post a reminder to order a copy if you didn't pre-order it. So far I've only had a chance to sneak a peak at the last chapter [...]

As I was perusing Twitter last night I noticed a bunch of retweets from @ DeadOpoly . It seems that someone went ahead and created the Grateful Dead edition of Monopoly. Which makes sense, since you can add -opoly to the end of anything nowadays and create a game out of it. Ghettoopoly and Redneckopoly only serve as evidence of this board game phenomenon. Anyways, the game is naturally titled Grateful Deadopoly and copies are selling on Amazon for $34.99. I have [...]

For those who don't know, Bob Lefsetz ( @lefsetz ) is a somewhat "outspoken" music-industry figure. He can tend to rant in many of his articles, but his ultimate redeeming trait is calling bullshit where it stands. He's a voice for those among us, old and young, who believe the current state of the pop music industry is a joke, and that there are possibilities beyond the Ticketbastard/LiveNation existence we currently live in. Fitting with those beliefs, he's had some mostly-complimentary things to say about the live Phish scene in the past, and just tonight he had some interesting [...]

Happy Halloween to all of you from here in *sunny* Indio, CA. I'm heading over to the festival grounds in a little bit for Saturday's first set, scheduled to start at 3 PM. After that is the much-rumored and heavily-speculated Halloween Costume set. I have a few personal picks ( Exile on Main Street or Let It Bleed to be specific), but in all honestly any of the albums still left on the list would be mind-blowing. It's hard to look this far forward with all of the amazingness still set to happen [...]
I'm headed off to Festival 8 in Indio, CA this weekend and will be sending updates on our brand-spankin' new twitter account, which you can find at twitter.com/burning_oak . Marcus Whitperson, one of the writers at LiveMusicBlog.com, has written up an excellent and well thought out open letter to the members and management of Phish regarding the need for a Phish concert webcast . Head over there to see Whitperson's arguments for why this has to come soon. There are a lot of people out there that would pay $10-20 per show for this if it was done correctly (read: hi-definition, solid bandwidth, quality sound). "After witnessing the evolving and ever-expanding online activity surrounding Phish's recent reunion tour, I'm now thoroughly convinced that the [...]

With Halloween concert season coming up soon it seems everyone is getting geared up for their own show plans. My personal plans for Halloween 2009 include Festival 8, however, just a few years back I spent my Halloween at Vegoose in 2005, and managed to catch what turned out to be an amazing show by String Cheese Incident - complete with a nearly half hour long cover of "Thriller" before it was the cool thing to do. It seems that the band was equally happy with the results of their many Halloween shows, because they're releasing Trick or Treat [...]
