OK, we're cutting in one for a New Music Monday, so I'm going to make this a quickie. The fact that it's quick doesn't detract from the quality of the tunes though. They're all whoppers today. Now, I know that these aren't all super new songs, but I've only discovered them recently myself. Perhaps I should rename this post type 'New To Me Music Monday'. I'm going to post Howler 'Back Of Your Neck' first as it has been stuck in my head all day. This is probably because it was on the radio earlier, [...]

Phew. It has taken until now to recover from the awesomeness of the weekend. First off, Friday night at Gigantic was another busy sesh. Bit of a random night, but there were plenty of regulars down giving it stacks, which was nice. The first track I'm posting up was one that I started to play for Gillian Gillespie, but that randomly cut out before the end. Gah! It's a great track that I've been looking to post up anyway, so this was a good excuse. It's M.I.A. 'Bad Girls'. M.I.A. - Bad Girls (right [...]

We haven't posted up very many remixes on GIGANTIC in the past while, so I figured today would be a good day to put together a Friday Bangers special, consisting of nothing but fresh new remixes for your listening pleasure. I'm going to post up the remixes in the order in which they would most likely be played in at the club. This first remix is of a track that has been getting a fair caning in Gigantic for ages now. It's SBTRKT 'Hold On' , and it has been reworked by Them Jeans [...]

Holla! So, it turns out that Andy Campbelll rocked the absolute shit out of GIGANTIC once again. I mean, just look at that tasty set list below - you could practically eat the damn thing. I asked him to pick out a few of his favourite tunes from the night, and he gave us three whoppers below. What a gent. ---------- A Band Of Bees - Chicken Payback Spank Rock - Ta Da Kelis - Bossy Dj Shadow Feat Little Dragon - Scale It Back Justice - On'n'on Klaxons - No [...]

It's that time of the week again, where you need to put the madness of Friday and Saturday night behind you, and melt into the calm abyss that is Sunday Afternoon. Here are a few tunes to help you on your way into an sweet kind of oblivion, you know, like an eternity of tea, biscuits and crosswords. This first tune is the only one of the selection that I'm responsible for. It's by a band called Memoryhouse . They remind me a fair bit of Beach House. This track is called 'Bonfire', and I like [...]

Aww yeahhh, the big man is back. Not Ian Paisley , he's barred after that time he drank too many jager bombs, tried to feel up one of the glass collectors, and then was sick all over his own tie and shirt. Not a pretty sight. No, I'm talking about the other big man - Andy Campbell . The last time he DJ'd at GIGANTIC there were reports of women throwing their underwear at him, and men trying to become his best mate. It was weird. The music *was* awesome though, just check out his previous set list [...]

Woah, in terms of Gigantic puns, that one has got to be up there with the best of them, although it only works if you pronounce Gotye incorrectly, and with a Northern Irish Accent. Apparently it's actually pronounced in a similar way to Gaultier. Anyway, name nonsense aside, this blog post is dedicated to Gotye. The first person to recommend him to me was Mike Mormecha from the band Mojo Fury. Then, not too long after that, Suzie McCracken recommended I check him out as well. I figured it was about time to pay attention. So, the [...]

Eesh, I'm having a serious cringe at that blog title, but hey, it's late at night and my brain is grinding. Tonight is Burns Night , when people all over the world celebrate the life and poetry of late, poet Robert Burns. I've used it as an excuse to post up some songs from some great Scottish musicians and artists. I put a posts out through the Gigantic Facebook and Twitter accounts to get people to suggest their favourite artists. The response has been amazing, and when you start to list all [...]

OK, while there are still a few hours left in Monday I thought it would be a good time to fire up a few new tunes that I've been digging for the past few days. The first track is by an artist I know more or less nothing about, and I'm feeling a bit too tired/lazy to do any research. Tell you what, if you like the tune too (and I'm pretty sure you will) then could you do some fact finding for me and give me a brief synopsis of their career to date? You're the [...]

Holy epic flip balls, what a great night. I had a feeling that it was going to be another Big Friday, but I didn't think it would be THAT big. The club was jumping from dead early, and everyone was well in party form. A large part of this might have been down to Local Celebrity Cat Anderson bringing her birthday party to GIGANTIC . They were all dressed up with a Movie theme, and Cat came as David Bowie in Labyrinth. It was one of the best/creepiest costumes I have set eyes upon. [...]

Stumbled across a new band earlier, and there are a few things I like about them. The first is that they are named after the Clone Quartet anthem 'Carousel'*. The second is that they remind me of a ton of bands I like - Kowalski, Phoenix, Passion Pit, Miike Snow, Two Door Cinema Club, The Whitest Boy Alive , that sort of thing. The third is that they are giving away their lovely Allston EP completely for free via their website. Truth be known they're not *quite* as good as that list of bands I mentioned but [...]

Are you all over The 2 Bears yet? If not, you should be. The 2 Bears are Joe Goddard and Raf Daddy . You might know Joe better as one fifth of Hot Chip. Joe makes the beats, and Raf delivers the vocals. There are two really good pieces of news about the act that have came to light in the past week or so. The first is that their debut album Be Strong is going to be out on January 30th. I'm really looking forward to it, and I have little [...]

We hadn't put up a Giganti c photo gallery on the Facebook page in a bit, so I decided to pull together a load of images from the past wee while and put them all together into one bumper gallery. There are a couple of choice images in there, but this one has proved to be the most popular. Can't imagine why, look at the hack of them! You can see the full gallery over here .

Apparently Friday 13th is an unlucky day. I was born on the 13th, and turned 13 on Friday 13th, and that day I won £13 on 13 10p scratch cards, so I actually think it's a pretty lucky day. Friday January 13th 2012 at Gigantic also turned out to be a lucky one. First off, there was a bus load of about 100+ people up from Dublin for some private dinner/party thing before the club started. This meant the room was pretty full for when the club kicked off, and they were already well on their way to [...]

Kapow! It's Friday Bangers time. This weeks selection of tunes comes courtesy of AU Magazine Editor Chris Jones , in a roundabout sort of way. We were listening to the Imprintthisonyourmind 'Best Of 20112 podcast in the AU office, which featured Paul McCarthy and Chris as special guests, selecting some of their favourite tracks of the year. We didn't really want to listen to the podcast, but Chris forced the office to put it on because, as he said, "my voice is silken like chocolate, just sit back and enjoy it". Turned out [...]

So, it was announced the other day that At The Drive-In are reforming to play at Coachella Festival . They might play other gigs apart from the festival, but this is all that has been put out so far. Quite a few hardcore heads are up in arms about it, probably thinking that they've sold out. I don't really care if they have sold out, I've just never managed to get over missing them when they played Belfast years ago. I was all set to go to the show, then the word spread that there were no [...]

The first Gigantic of 2012 was kicked in fine style by the Big Man himself, Andy Campbell. This is the second time that Andy has captained the good ship Gigantic all by himself, and he frickin loved it. Talking about the experience he said "Man, it was honestly so good and exciting that at one point I actually became aroused, and had to crouch behind the DJ box for a minute and regain my composure. I just enjoy making people dance THAT much." What a guy. Here is the full set list from the night. You have [...]

Ah, the start of a fresh week, and what better way to kick it off than with some fresh new music to get your lugholes around. The first track of the day is the new cut from Azealia Banks , 'Liquorice'. We've been caning '212' at Gigantic for months, and it's a track that has really crossed her over. Now the super talented lady is being heralded as one of the number one acts to keep an eye on this year. She sold out her Dublin gig in 20 minutes, so there is no denying how [...]

Today's Come Down With Me post is dedicated to a single band, namely Big Deal . Their album came out in the middle of 2011, but I only developed a serious crush on it towards the end of the year. I was driving back from a visit to see my mum in Mullingar, which is right in the middle of Ireland for those who like geography, It was early on a Sunday morning, the sun was making the world brighter if not warmer, and I needed some soothing tunes to fit my super mellow mood. I fired [...]

New Years Eve was always going to be a big night. Lavery's is super busy at the best of times, but NYE promised to be another level altogether. It delivered too, and the whole club was sold out by 10.30pm. Boom! This meant that it was full on from about five minutes after the door opened. The set was an absolute blast to play, and it went in all kinds of directions – from indie to hip-hop, to banging dance and dubstep. The total highlight of course was the midnight tune. I'd been building up to it [...]
