I was so pleased with last Saturday night in the Ballroom that I have decided to post up the full set list. It was just one of those brilliant nights where everything goes according to plan, and all the advance preparation and work just clicks into place. I’ve been trying to push the music in the Ballroom into a more defined direction, with the idea of taking it on a build and progression throughout the night. The aim is to start with nice, deep house grooves, and to keep picking up the pace until it ends up in fun rave [...]

I thought last night might be a quieter one at Gigantic. I’m not sure where I got that idea from, but I was very, very wrong. The club was absolutely jumping, and it ended up being just a few people away from a total sell out. This might have been down to the fact that there were a few celebrations happening. First off, the wonderful Claire Ward brought a big gang of lovely people down for her birthday, and then Ryan McCormick was down celebrating the birthday of his wee baby girl Lucy which a mammoth [...]

I can’t remember a time when so many of my favourite DJs have played in Belfast in such a short space of time. Of late Boys Noize and Todd Terje have played amazing sets in the Limelight and there’s upcoming sets from Cyril Hahn and Disclosure on the horizion but the one I’m most excited by is the appearance of A-Trak ! He’s bringing his A-Trak vs the world tour to Belfast with special guest Tiga! Check out this video to see just why I get so excited: [...]

It has been a while since I’ve put together a Gigantic recap post, but last night was pretty special so I thought it was about time I pulled the finger out. Being a good friend, Kim Barclay had organised for her bestie Dave Andrews to get a private DJ lesson at Gigantic as part of his birthday present. Not only did Dave get a DJ lesson, but he also got to DJ for the early part of Gigantic. Having had zero previous DJ experience, Dave was thrown into the proverbial deep stuff. Obviously [...]
Wowsers, it has been a month since the last proper GIGANTIC blog update, but we're back in action now baby, awww yeahhh. Yesterday, I heard this song for the first time in aaaaages, and I just thought 'BAM! That mutha is straight in my set for the weekend'. I'm probably going to play it on Friday and Saturday because it is just that good. It's also over 20 years old, which is a bit scary. Do people even still know this song? If not, they need educated. Epic indeed. Faith No More [...]

I've been mixing these two tracks together during my live DJ sets since last year. A good few people have came up and asked me what the remix was, thinking that it was a rework of Niggas In Paris, but it was actually just me looping part of it over Baauer's 'Harlem Shake'. I decided that it was worth doing a proper edit of them together, as whenever I head 'Harlem Shake' it just doesn't sound right without '...Paris' over it. Everyone is probably super sick of the Baauer track after the whole Harlem Shake craze that [...]

I was meant to do the blog post earlier in the week but I’ve been busy, stop giving me a hard time, man. These are the best requests that I received last weekend during my DJ escapades. First one is a golden oldie, shouted out by rampant sexlord Matthew Beattie . I’ll not embarrass Matt by revealing how long ago he first requested this track, but let’s just say it was a wee while back. It’s still a brilliant tune, think I’ll make it a staple of my sets from now on. [...]

I'm going to do a full blog post about the weekend of DJing later on today, but I thought I'd fire this post out on my lunch hour as I'm trying to get back into the habit of regular posts. I've been meaning to play this song in one of my sets ever since my super-chum Rebecca Johnston introduced me to it back in December. It was a really good role-reversal, as usually I'm the guy that introduces songs to her. It's a brilliant remix of Yelle 'Que Veux Tu' by Madeon [...]

If you have came across this blog post because you have been scouring the Internet for pornography, I am both sorry and delighted that you have mistakenly landed here. There is no filth to be found, but perhaps you can console yourself with a trio of delightful tunes? They all have the word 'love' in the title, and they are all excellent. That's pretty much all you need to know. I've started playing this track in my sets lately, and I just can't get enough of it. It reminds me of the Larry Levan remix of The [...]

Right, I’m running really behind on my blog posts this weather so I'm just going to fire some really quick posts out with songs that have stuck out during my sets in the past few weeks. First off, GIGANTIC the week before last was particularly great. There was a really big crowd of old school heads down for it, which meant that I could play a bit more of a vintage set. It's pretty scary when We Are Scientists and Bloc Party are considered a bit more old school, but ain't that the truth right now. This [...]

Whewts, I’ve been wild busy lately, hence the lack of blog action. First up, just gonna fire out a quick post about how good Glider was last weekend. Of course, it’s always a good night down in Dublin, and there is always something that sticks out to make it special. This time I played the usual two sets, one upstairs and one downstairs. Usually, I play upstairs early in the night, but this time I played a little later. The club was also packed from really (probably something to do with pay day), and this combined with the later set [...]

Good banter at the club last night. As usual, the set started out in the land of the credible, and ended up in the realm of the incredible (or questionable, depending on your outlook). I played a lot of alt-indie and post-punk stuff at the start of the night, with a bit of old school funk and disco winged in for good measure. It was this track that got the best response of the first part of the night. One of the barmen even came up and asked me what it was, which is always a good [...]

OK, I'm just gonna be honest and say that I've been really buys today so this is going to be a stupendously quick post. I put the call out on the Gigantic Facebook page earlier asking for people's favourite tracks of the moment. Usually I would upload the tracks, but I'm just gonna put up YouTube links today otherwise I'll never make it to the club in time. I'm also going to use the first three tracks that were shouted out, and that haven't been posted before. Luckily it turns out that everyone who posted on the [...]

OK, I don't have much time so no messing about tonight, just three quick Friday bangers to fire into ye. First up is a track that was requested in the Ballroom at Lavs last Saturday night. I'm going to admit my ignorance and say that I hadn't actually heard it before, but I knew that Julio Bashmore remixing Bobby Womack had UTTER WIN stamped all over it. I bought it on the spot and dropped it a few minutes later. Now it is one of my fave tunes. Can't remember the name of [...]

Hey hey! It’s ladies night on the Gigantic blog. Hopefully no one thinks this is totally sexist or anything, as the truth is that I couldn’t really think of a better title for the blog entry, and the only connection between the songs is that they all have female vocalists. No agenda, just a total coincidence. Honest guv. Kicking things off we have an amazing cover from the wonderful Birthday Sex, the London-based super-brilliant boy/girl duo of Harriet and Tom. They’ve been around for a while but their last few tunes have just been so so good, and [...]

Today has been all about BBC 6 Music , the best digital radio station on the planet. In the short time I had it on today it provided one of the most best soundtracks I could ever have wished for. LCD Soundsystem, Villagers, Holy Ghost!, Talking Heads, The Black Keys and more all blasting out. It's the radio station that I think all 'the kids' should listen to. It acts as both a barometer of what is good listening to right now, as well as an education about great music from bygone eras. It links and threads [...]

I don’t usually post up my setlists, but I enjoyed playing last night so much that I thought I’d really like to put it out there. In the past at Gigantic I think I’ve been prone to playing to the crowd, especially at Xmas when there are usually a ton of people who are only out once a year and might not have the broadest or deepest of musical taste. I have been guilty of straying a bit too close to the Lowest Common Denominator music at times, and to be honest it bothered me. Gigantic has been known for [...]

Last night go off to a weird start. Due to late running taxis (on account of the current ‘protests’ happening all across Northern Ireland) the Christmas dinner parties who were booked in to the venue before the club were all still eating when I arrived. It meant we opened up an hour later, which wasn’t the biggest deal in the world, but I did worry that it would be hard to fill the room when we did open. As is so often the case, my worrying turned out to be pointless. When we opened at 11pm there [...]

Cool, the Friday Bangers post has now reached the age where it can now legally drink and attend the club. As a result, you can expect to hear all the tracks from this post in the club tonight. First up is a track from Chrvches . That's not a misspell, they actually use a 'v' rather than a 'u'. Ooh, edgy! Probably just to make them easier to Google I suppose. I think I like this so much because it reminds me of that Taylor Swift song about never getting back together. Poptastic! [...]

So, on Saturday night I was DJing at a sort of secret party. It had a ‘Gold’ theme, where the place was all decorated in golden things and looking amazing, and people were encouraged to come dressed in some sort of gold way. Loads of folks got into the spirit of things, with some gold capes flying about, tons of nice shoes, and even a welt of gold body paint (hello Conor !). I was DJing with Claire Hall, who was going by the name of Stone Gold Fox for the event, while I [...]
