Yeo, this week sees the return of Lavery's extraordinaire Nadine . Back in the day, Naddy was the queen of promo at Lavs, and high priestess of the bar. Then she went off to do something, somewhere else. We're not sure what it was, all that's important is that she is now working back at Lavs, and will be on this Friday. Woo! As well as all the other skills she has (some radio stuff, DJing etc) she also has pretty good taste in music. Here I have fired up three songs that remind me of [...]

Sad news to learn of on a Monday morning. Charles Haddon, frontman of electro trio Ou Est Le Swimming Pool , took his own life at Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium last week. 'Dance The Way I Feel' has been a rock solid staple of GIGANTIC sets for a long time, so I thought it would be a fitting tribute to repost it today. Thoughts go out to his friends and family. Ou Est Le Swimming Pool - Dance The Way I Feel

Hollaaa! It's the best day of the week, all over again. Tonight we have the GIGANTIC debut of Will Neill . He'll be spinning some tunes in the early part of the evening, so come down and be nice. To mark the occasion we've got Will to pick out three tunes that he's digging right now, and to tell us a bit about each. Here he goes... -------- Tokyo Police Club - Bambi Just to keep my indie credentials intact. Fair bit of facebook banter [...]

Hey hey, it's Friday time. This means that it's time it get your dance on, and shake a little loose at the club. To get you in the mood to move ya rump, here are a few tunes that are currently giving me satisfaction. We'll kick the post off with the slinky, funky and sultry stylings of Janelle Monae (pictured). Her album The ArchAndroid came out a few weeks back, and it's a corking mix of throwback sounds given a modern take. She also keeps the indie cred high by getting hipster [...]

Friday past was yet another belter. FAUX DJs were in the house, rocking it out as always. It turned out to be the usual GIGANTIC method - ease the crowd in, before eventually turning it into a full-on rave. Tons of good peeps down, and a fair few local band members, if you're into spotting that sort of thing. Plenty of good shouts throughout the night, so gonna post some up now to give credit where it is due. First off, Lucy Hamill made the call for Boys Noize [...]

Yeo! Last Friday was one of the most full-on GIGANTIC nights we have had in a long time. Guest DJ Doublewonderful (AKA Michael Hyland ) was so banging he was in danger of causing serious and permanent damage to any fragile psyches in the room. Photographer Will Neill was also down, taking some shots and making people look good. You can see the full gallery on our Facebook page . There was also a huge crowd in, and everyone was going totally nuts at the end of the night. Right near the [...]

To follow on from Hyland's post of big tunes yesterday, I thought I'd fire up a few choice selections that will be making their way into my set tomorrow night. These are the tracks that have been orbiting my brain the most lately, and are all nice and big. This first track was actually a recommendation from Sinead Green . Since picking it up, I've heard it a good few times on the radio, and I reckon it's going to be a total smasher. Such a good tune. The Count & [...]

So, this week sees the GIGANTIC debut of one Michael Hyland - wobble-dubstep-fidget extraordinaire and all-round headcase. He recently took part in the Trans Lap-Off competition, making it all the way to the final and narrowly missing out on the number one spot. The night is going to be guaranteed good times. Here Hyland picks out a few tunes that he has been making sweet love to at the minute, and that are likely to get an airing at the club. "Standing in the Way of Control has become a stone cold [...]

This is just a quick wee post with a few of the key tracks from last Friday night. It was a really good night in the club, and there were tons of good requests. First up is a track that was chosen by Catherine , someone who I haven't saw down at the club much, but who made this excellent choice. It's The Faint 's 'Adenda Suicide'. I've got a lot of time for The Faint and their brand of dark yet funky fired-up post-punk. Had a wee dance to this myself. [...]

Hotdamnit, we love the FAUX DJs . They are so good that when we are listening to them play in any club, our feet feel as if they have been possessed by a kind of fun loving demon. A bit like that scene in Beetlejuice. ANYWAY! The dynamic duo are back in GIGANTIC this Friday, July 2 , to concentrate their considerable musical skills on the task of shaking human asses. It's a good time guaranteed, or your money back. And if you slipped in on the guest [...]

Yeahhh! Last Friday at Gigantic was completely brilliant. A load of lovely folks came down to the club, kindly obliging Suzie 's request to get in front of her while she shot. Massive thanks to Ms. McCracken for her wonderful handy work, and cheers to all the dancers and party people. You can see the full gallery on Facebook Fan Page . Go friend that shit up, and tag yourself if you're in there. Can't wait for the next one.

Yo! It's been a while since we created a gallery of the lovely club massive, so we decided that this Friday we would get a photographer down on the night to take shots of everyone. We're also encouraging people to bring their own camera to snap themselves on the night, and to take some pre-Gigantic and post-Gigantic photos as well. We will then pool all the best shots together and create an online gallery on the blog, and on the Gigantic Facebook page too. We'll have prizes* for the best pose and worst face. Get involved! [...]

OK, truth be know, I've been sitting on this mix for a wee while now, because i always intend to post it on a Saturday. Inevitably, Friday night turns into a big one, and by the time I'm kicking it on the comp again it's past plugging time. Not this week though! In case you don't know about it, La Musique is a club night that runs every Saturday at Sandino's in Derry. It's pretty dance music to the max, running the gauntlet from disco goodness through to quality house and into banging territory. [...]

Yeahhh! It's another Friday! To celebrate this momentous occasion, we are delivering some super tasty treats right to your ears. All three tracks today are certified winners, and if they had to race against each other, it would be some sort of crazy three-way tie. First up, we've got a track from the new Foals album Total Life Forever . The record is dead ace, and is a change in direction from the dancey math-rock of their debut. The tunes now are much more lush and dense, with more depth and delicate touches. It's a [...]

So, unless you have been living in a cave, or under a rock, you will be aware that the World Cup kicked off today. This will doubtless result in much drinking and shouting, though not from us, of course. In tribute to this momentous occasion, Tim Farrell has designed this special Gigantic poster for tonight. Hope you like it, we think it's ace. Club kicks off tonight at the usual time of 10pm. If you want on the guest list, drop us a line. Holla!

Today's blog picks are all the selections of Kimbo. She hates writing words for the blog, so has left it up to me to do so instead. It's times like this that I wish I had a series of embarrassing anecdotes about Kim that I could regale people with, but unfortunately I don't. Here are some fun facts about here though. She can touch her nose with her tongue. She can't pick it with it, though, which is probably just as well. She likes to sing, and is in a new band with John [...]

You know when you hear a song, and it reminds you of another song, even though they aren't that similar? Well, that happened to me the other day. I was listening to the new Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti album Before Today . It's a kinda weird record, stylistically quite diverse, sounds as if it was made in another decade, but beneath it all are plain old quality songs. Once track that stood out in particular was 'Beverly Kills'. For some reason it reminded me of the Orange Juice track 'Rip It Up'. Then, when both [...]

For those of who don't know, La Musique is a club night that takes place every Saturday night in Sandino's , Derry. It's always rammed, and the crowd are always up for dancing. The two resident DJs, Dollface and Jean Luc , are great, and really nice guys. They're kind enough to bring me down for a guest slot every few months. It's possibly my favourite gig to play because you can cane the heavy beats from start to finish without relenting for a minute. I was down there again last night, [...]

Ayeee, you may well have noticed the new look for this blog, and the new Gigantic logo. They are the results of the good work of the marvelous Tim Farrell. He's also put together a series of new posters for the club too. We're hella happy with them all. Here is the first, for your eye-related pleasure. Let us know what you think of all the new design via the comments below.

OK, this track is getting a blog post all to itself, because it's simply that good. It has been kicking around for quite some time now, and I actually first acquired it just over halfway through last year. It wasn't until I got into a conversation with some Australian friends that they tipped it to me again. I've listened to it about a hundred times since then. Hella good. Bag Raiders have now joined the list of awesome Aussie electro, alongside The Presets , Cut Copy and Midnight Juggernauts . Can't wait to hear [...]
