Youandewan - Alone In Berlin (Tomas Rubeck Remix) We first heard Ewan Smith's chilled, chugging-dub-scape original "Alone In Berlin" earlier this year off the young producers MagicBag EP, now the single has resurfaced with a remix from fellow Brit Tomas Rubeck , who turns the single's subtle, chugging-bassline into a mesmerizing edit of compressed percussion and whirling chords. It seems as though a lot of new and talented musicians are coming from Ann Arbor, Michigan nowadays. Spirit Sisters , a brand new project, is definitely one of them. SS brings us a pair of songs that are meant to compliment each other. "He" and "She" are both very pop-driven tracks that experiment with a wide array of intricate sounds and textures. Make sure to get those headphones ready.

GD&TOP - High High (Smoke Room Remix) We remember listening to this track back when Kyle Yerhot AKA Smoke Room was in California after a nice little hike behind the suburbs. Never did we think it could have the potential to be reworked to sound like this. Smoke Room shifts the pitch of the vocals and puts it behind an intricate beat, flipping the original "feel good song" into a rather dark and gripping new track. Photography by John Divola

Atlas Sound - Terra Incognita Keeping in the spirit of being one of the busiest and most prolific figures in music today, Bradford Cox has announced the release of a new Atlas Sound LP entitled Parallax. According to Wikipedia, " parallax is an apparent displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight. " This is a pretty appropriate name considering the elements of perceptive duality that lie hand-in-hand with Bradford Cox's body of work and the different ways his music can be interpreted, depending on [...]

It's been a couple years since WHY's Eskimo Snow was released. It was the band's first attempt at steering away from their well-known 'rap' influence and into a more rock/pop style. As we see in the video above, the new WHY? album is looking like it's digging back into the band's roots with dynamic teeth-grinding and off-the-wall hip hop/rap. Sounds good to us! Fall Tour: 09-14 - Cincinnati, OH - Memorial Hall ^ 09-15 - Carnegie, PA - Carnegie Musc Hall of Carnegie ^ 09-16 - Philadelphia, [...]

Finnish duo Renaissance Man have cultivated their sound from rather abnormal sampling, quirky personas and a back-catalogue packed to the brim with releases through Sound Pellegrino, Dubsided, Kitsune, Deadfish, Youngunz, Exploited, Ministry of Sound and Made To Play. More recently, RM have anounced their debut full length, self-titled The Renaissance Man Project , to drop through Turbo Recordings in early October. The full length, as RM have roughly put it, is an exploration through the worm-hole of electronic music, a far stretch from the duo's initial branding under a more club-friendly setting. Also [...]

The collaboration between James Blake and Bon Iver has come earlier than expected ever since an initial announcement on JB's twitter last Wednesday which certainly stirred up the web. This track has Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) on vocals with Blake on production. Perfect match.
Though I'm sure all of you have no problem acquainting yourselves with Toronto's Abel Tefaye and his work under the Drake-appraised project The Weeknd , especially now being that his latest mixtape, Thursday , has surfaced. We stumbled upon this fan-generated video for "The Birds Pt.1," staring the rather lovely Akiko Mims and her struggle with a glow-painted alterego (sort of).

Presk - Muggy Bouncing off his recently released EP through Fourth Wave, And Cut/On Mold , Amsterdam-based producer Presk (birthed Pieter Willems) continues his journey into the realms of bass music with his newest cut, Love Again , for Doc Daneeka's Ten Thousand Yen imprint. Not included in the EP, but given out as an added bonus, "Muggy," a single built on chord stabs and skittering percussion that can be placed in some sub category of techno.

The Weeknd Thursday Self Released After checking Twitter at 5.15am (UK time, no one knows why), Rebel contributor Andrew Hill caught The Weeknd releasing their new mixtape Thursday at first hand. After initially believing it to be a dream, he set out downloading the zip file and disregarding any plans for early Friday morning by staying up and giving it one full listen, while taking notes. These, below, are these notes, with improved grammar… Mixtape opener 'Lonely Star' contains some of the best lyrics on the [...]

Real - Cut Me Down Hailing from the hidden Northern England settlement of Chester, Real (aka Jackson Almond), is to be the next contributor to the ever-growing Rebel podcast series. Real's productions bely his relatively rural and cut off surroundings by being as close to the perpetual flow of the current musical heartbeat as anything else we've heard this year. Boasting a soundcloud repertoire of over 50 original productions, it is genuinely surprising that it has took this long for this talent to garner international attention. Of the 50 or so [...]

Figure in Isolation is a short four minute animation created by Kaleb Doroucher and Michelle Chrzanowski . The short was based off of a riveting soundscape produced by Vacation Dad 's Andrew Todryk. "This animation reflects our seclusion during the long Wisconsin winter we spent making it," says Doroucher. That's 150 hours to be exact. In Figure in Isolation, the story follows a lonely character as it's curiosity leads it to find something extraordinary. It's a short full of stark contrast, atypical compositions, and oracular feelings. The short had premiered earlier this year [...]

Kumon Plaza - River Spot After a successful run of independent releases and a tour of California under the guise of his low fidelity synthpop side project HAPPY TRENDY, the Edmonton-based whizkid Dylan Khotin-Foote returns to his primary outlet; Kumon Plaza. In his latest song "River Spot", Dylan takes the fluttering synthesizer lines and Mini Pops drum sounds that he is known for and transforms them into a languid (but lucid) electronic meditation on implied aquatic themes that feels right at place during these looming last days of summer. [...]

Since we debuted his Four Tet inspired single, " Sea Water ," Ryan York (better known under the monicker Asura ) has added three more originals under his belt to be compiled on his newest EP, If I Am This Forest , out in early September on the Los Angeles-based Non Projects label. Fluttering between his own vocalizations, folk background, and the almost perfected use of percussion, If I Am This Forest follows no genre boundary, flowing only by the free-form experimentalism held within. Tracklisting 01. If I Am This Forest 02. [...]

Nocow - I Just Want You (To Know) Russian export Nocow offers up a free download of his latest single "I Just Want You (To Know)." The two-stepper pans between airy synth-work, skittering percussion and the repetitive vocal bars "Girl I Just Want You," possibly indicative of a love once had.. or simply a catchy vocal phrase. Though we don't know the exact inspiration behind the single, it isn't hard to infer your own relationship misfortune.

DA-10 The Future Is Futureless WotNot This year has seen a dramatic shift for the way in which the beats movement is perceived in the UK and Europe. Following Kutmah's relocation from Los Angeles to London, the UK has witnessed a rise in interest for beats and IDM pushing it towards the periphery of mainstream electronic music. Fledgling London beats label WotNot Music have just put out their first release by Brighton based DA-10, a duo comprised of MPC master 10-David and synth wizard Danalogue. The new record entitled [...]

Squeaky Lobster live at Radio Panik Belgium's beat scene keeps taking our breath away lately, and we can't even blame the "law of large numbers" for the many talents they've got in that petite country. Really, too much good music to mention-so as a commencement of Belgium-related posts, we've got a live set from Squeaky Lobster , downloadable exclusively for you Rebel readers. Hailing from Brussels, Squeaky Lobster brings an epic mixture of lo-fi sampling and hi-fi synthesis. It's hard to get bored listening to his works; he uses so many sounds [...]
