The Gibson Amphitheatre , the venue on the Universal Studios lot that has hosted major concerts for more than 40 years, will be shuttered in September to make room for a new attraction at the theme park, promoter Live Nation announced today. On it's 2011 full-length "Moon/Mirror," L.A. trio Derde Verde displayed an idiosyncratic mix of influences characterized by warm textures, shape-shifting rhythms and oddly compelling song structures. The Reflections , the L.A.-based duo comprised of Darian Zahedi and Jon Safley (who you may recognize as the drummer for Bleached), first beckoned us with their summery dream-pop in "Summer Days." The Jubilee Music & Arts Festival last week announced the lineup for its two-day event June 7-8 in downtown L.A., and since we're still in a festival kind of mood, we thought it'd be cool to give you a sample of the wares. Coachella 2013 did not go quietly into the night — Red Hot Chili Peppers provided the festival-ending fireworks on a steamy day that offered none of the calamity of the previous weekend's windstorm-plagued Sunday. If you were lucky, you caught Father John Misty dispensing some knowledge from a lawn chair, or Vampire Weekend rocking it from the main stage, or veterans Dinosaur Jr. and Social Distortion roaring away like kids. Coachella roared into its second weekend Friday — in many ways the same as the first installment, but in some ways different. Overall, crowds were less barrel-you-over intense (ah, civility) on the less-congested but markedly warmer festival grounds. It was as if everybody had shown up for music class, and had done their homework to boot. Gliss' new album "Langsom Dans" is like the gift that keeps on giving — the more time you spend with it, with deeper you realize it is. The song "Blur" is a woozy, love-drunk meditation bathed in reverb and longing, and Dutch photographer and director Claudia Crobatia brings it to life with crisp, bright colors rather than (the predictable, one would think) hazy shadows. The trio — Victoria Cecilia, Martin Klingman and David Reiss — has made an album that blooms; pick your petal.
