![Lissie :: Bad Romance [Lady Gaga Cover - Video]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2449319_lg.jpg)
Lady Gaga you know. Lissie, on the other hand, you may not. It's almost unlikely that it would ever be the other way around. At least at this point. I would love it if that were to change. Lissie is a diamond in the rough with a voice that simply sparkles and shines. I was introduced to the sound of the Rock Island, Illinois native a couple months ago when I happened across her most recent Daytrotter session from back in January. Since then her [...]
via La Blogotheque This is for all of you disappointed fans who could not make it down to see Wilco's sold-out show at The National in Richmond last night (yours truly included). "Country Disappeared" makes for another fine Take Away Show presentation from the good folks at La Blogotheque. [And to be honest, as much as I'd like to be a hard ass about it, I just can't. So if you went to the show last night, I guess this is for you guys too]. [...]

Destroyer of the Void , the band's fifth full-length album, hits stores on June 8 via Sub Pop . A U.S. tour is set for June with the closest Charlottesville stop coming up on June 14 at the 9:30 Club in D.C. ![The Devil Makes Three :: All Hail [Video]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2438217_lg.jpg)
------ I featured The Devil Makes Three for the first time on this digital page back in May of last year as part of my continuing Keep An Ear Out For series. The Santa Cruz, California-based three piece never fails to find its way into my regular listening rotation and as of late that has meant repeated trips through the band's most recent effort Do Wrong Right along with the occasional, joyous return to the trio's self-titled debut. The video above was shot in one take [...]
![The National::Bloodbuzz Ohio [MP3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2436375_lg.jpg)
The National [photo by Keith Klenowski] "Bloodbuzz Ohio" is the first track to be made available from The National's forthcoming album High Violet . Due in stores on May 11 via 4AD, High Violet sits pretty high on my list of anticipated new album releases for 2010. If you've heard The National's last two records (2005's Alligator and 2007's Boxer ), then I shouldn't need to say anymore. If not, you've got some serious catching up to do. [...]

Thinking about music and songs...all these songs I've been listening to...for the past DECADE...a decade that I lived and loved in, rose up in and shouted...out loud..."sing me that song that I want to hear"..."sing it for me would you?"..."and please don't mind me, I'll just sit here and listen". All these songs in no particular order...served up one a day. Bombadil--"So Many Ways to Die" (2009) [article continues after the break - click "read more"] ------ [...]
![Lykke Li :: Possibility [New Video]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2426670_lg.jpg)
Lykke Li [photo by Daniel Jackson] Music comes at me from so many directions. And it never ceases to amaze me why some of it hits me and some of it doesn't...automatically. As quick as the blink of an eye. I like it or I don't. I get it or I won't. Sure it doesn't happen every time. There are moments when music needs to sink in, it needs to ruminate, or slowly stew before the bubbles and the steam rise to the top. Or it comes at you [...]
![Shipwrecked in C'ville :: With Gillian Welch [Re-Post]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2422031_lg.jpg)
------ [ The Rut Says : This is the second in a number of re-posts highlighting last year's Shipwrecked in C'ville essay series. I wrote this one myself. Originally published on 05.20.09] ------ Gillian Welch Revival --- Shaun Harvey The fading yellow linoleum of [...]
The Box Tops (w/Alex Chilton). And not to be lost is Wayne Carson. Wrote this song along with "She's Actin' Single (I'm Drinkin' Doubles)" -- Gary Stewart, "I Want Some More" -- Dan Auerbach, and co-wrote "You Were Always on My Mind" -- Willie Nelson. There's something eternally classic about a song that you cannot escape no matter how hard you try. The perfect combination of song and singer.
![Fruit Bats :: On Stage at The Southern, Charlottesville [TONIGHT! ]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2416486_lg.jpg)
Fruit Bats [photo by Annie Beedy] Time. Much more precious as money. Doesn't spend quite the same. If I had more of it. Working a full-time gig (that includes both morning and evening shifts). Trying to make days off just that...days off. Find time to write. To listen. To respond. I guess it's true...you gotta take time to make time. What I'm trying to say in the most round-about fashion is: I wish I had more time to say all the [...]

In the Dark , the third full-length release from Athens, Georgia garage rockers The Whigs , made its way into stores yesterday via ATO Records . I first caught The Whigs live back in 2006, just a little over a week before ATO re-issued the band's self-released debut Give 'Em All A Big Fat Lip . That show was at the now defunct Starr Hill Music Hall here in C'ville and as memory serves...it kinda rocked! I sadly missed their return performance a couple years later [...]

Farina [The Parking Lot Movie cast] Velvet Rut : (1) a place where we're all almost famous. any locale, especially a smaller city that wraps itself around its inhabitants with its laid-back lifestyle (2) any enduring situation, esp. professional, marked by some hardship, but for whose lush benefits a person nonetheless finds it difficult to extract oneself [courtesy of Urban Dictionary ] ------ An official [...]
![Drunk Tigers :: Small Town (from Black Square EP) [MP3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2399757_lg.jpg)
Drunk Tigers' "Small Town" is one of those songs for every Velvet Rut kind of town. I only needed to hear the song once through to have it hit me. Five more spins for good measure followed [purely out necessity and desire]. In that listening space of my brain it's the soundtrack to a grainy, black and white 8mm film. The streets all look a little haggard, the sidewalk passes by as the camera catches each step from a worn out pair of tennis shoes. You see the [...]
![Dr. Dog :: "Stranger" (from forthcoming album Shame, Shame) [MP3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2394326_lg.jpg)

Check out "Stranger" below and be looking for the band's appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon the night of the album's official release. Dr. Dog hits the road in support of Shame, Shame on April 14th and will be stopping at the 9:30 Club in D.C. a month later (on May 14th with Deer Tick!). [...]
![Upcoming :: Justin Townes Earle & Joe Pug @ The Southern [TONIGHT]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2388568_lg.jpg)
Justin Townes Earle and Joe Pug at The Southern in Charlottesville TONIGHT! To see one of these guys live is like being dealt a high pair in a game of stud. To see them both on the same stage (on the same night!) might as well be a straight shot of aces full of kings. My advice would be to just go ahead and push all your chips in the pot and let 'em ride. ------ For Justin Townes Earle [...]
![A Sad Passing :: Mark Linkous [1962 -2010]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2386778_lg.jpg)
Sad news arrived early this morning that Sparklehorse frontman Mark Linkous committed suicide yesterday (March 6). A statement from Linkhous's family reads: "" It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There's a heaven and there's a star for you. " ------ [...]
This one has been out there for a few weeks now, but I thought I'd share it because not all circles neatly overlap. "So This is Heaven" is your first look and listen into the forthcoming solo debut album from Phillip St. Ours (of C'ville's Pantherburn). [album title and release date not yet known]. Video shot and edited by Johnny St. Ours (who has also been behind the camera on videos for Dave Matthews Band, That 1 Guy, Infamous Stringdusters, and JD Souther). ------------ Pantherburn :: [...]
![Damien Jurado :: Arkansas [New MP3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2377254_lg.jpg)
Damien Jurado [photo by Sarah Murphy Jurado] The day is shaping up to be a musical journey through the South in song. Following up today's early post for Phosphorescent's "It's Hard to Be Humble (When You're From Alabama)", comes this gem from another artist who definitely has to be included on my ever-growing list of personal faves. The song "Arkansas" will be appearing on Damien Jurado's forthcoming full-length album Saint Bartlett which is due to hit stores in the U.S. [...]
