I'll admit to being a bit unsure about Jen Wood at first. Granted that I haven't heard any of her previous works, but Find You In Love's opening track (and promotional mp3) "Pills" has far too much teen-angst for me to take it seriously. Fact is it gives me the image of a 17-year old girl sitting in her room, writing the dear diary-like lyrics in a pretty note book while looking out the window now and then to ponder over why she can't seem relate to other people her age. And Jen Wood is not [...]
The Sweet Serenades ' new song "Die Young" actually kind of suits their name as it is a sweet (albeit bitterly so) duet with Club 8 singer Karolina about the dangers of falling in love with a one night stand. Apparently it was featured in an episode of Grey's Anatomy, but what upcoming-yet-already-popular-i n-the-blog-world band hasn't been featured on that show? I just hope The Sweet Serenades don't suffer the same fate as Imogen Heap who I used to adore but can't listen to anymore without imagining Marissa and Ryan from The O.C. pouting over whatever injustice their upper-class [...]

Sorry sorry sorry! I meant to post this song ages ago, but unfortunately it coincided with my identity crisis as a music blogger a while back. Atlanta duo La Chansons have gotten a bit of flack in reviews lately but then their kitschy 80s electropop is hardly for everyone. Personally I find them adorable (I've featured them here before for a reason, after all) and the new track "Sparklin'" simply cements that opinion. I mean, it's a cute song about rollerskating, how can you not like that? Plus, there's quite [...]

I haven't been sure whether or not to feature Chew Lips here, as I got over their album Unicorn pretty fast. It has all the element for me to enjoy it: electro pop with female vocals, good hooks and so on, but I found a lot of the songs to sound too similar to one another, leaving me with a rather blurred impression of the album as a whole. I do still enjoy the song "Seven" though, and since they have a pretty cool video for it plus are offering the mp3 for free, I figured [...]

Balmorhea (pronounced bal-more-ay) are releasing their new album Constellations today which follows their previous releases All is Wild, All is Silent (2009) and Rivers Arms (2008). I actually haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but if the free song "Bowspirit" is any indication, I think I'm gonna love it. Instrumental and very down to earth, "Bowspirit" offers you a bit of peace of mind despite its sometime melancholic sound. To put it simply: it's beautiful. Tour dates [...]

~ Jonathan Johansson - "En hand i himlen" ~ Why am I posting this? Because I'm somewhat in love with this song today, that's why. The Fredrick Carlsson remix is still available here .

~ Paul and the Patients - "Tiny Red Light" ~ A very good song, but perhaps a bit too commercial as I instantly can imagine it being used in any prime time American teen drama (maybe it already has, what do I know?). But since I like it very much, I'll overlook that. Nice contrast between male and female vocals. Kinda Snow Patrol-ish? ~ Mirrors - "Look At Me" ~ This is so deliciously 80's New Romantic to me. And this trio hails from the home of New [...]

US trio The Actors compare their sound to "Daft Punk and DJ Shadow, Talking Heads and MGMT - hell, even Scott Walker and Blur", but I'm not so sure if I agree. A mixture between Talking Heads and MGMT is a fair comparison, but they are too soft for the likes of Daft Punk and I'm not sure where Blur comes into the picture other than perhaps in some of the guitar riffs. Personally they make me think more of a re-vamped version of The Cars. Originally started as a one-man project by singer/bassist/keyboardist Phil Maves, [...]

Uniform Motion's soft acoustic pop is something you can bundle up in like a blanket on a cold day. Or simply put on in the background while you tinker around the house. Either way, it's nice, in a drinking tea and thinking "hey things are pretty good" on a sunny Sunday afternoon kind of a way. Perhaps even a bit too much so at times as some songs, while perfectly pretty, are rather anonymous and don't leave much of an impression other than being just "nice". But for a hazy lazy afternoon, Uniform Motion's sublimly soft sophomore album [...]

The Radio Dept. have a new upcoming single, a pleasant little tune called "Heaven's On Fire" that brings spring and summer to mind (or perhaps I'm just so desperately sick of the cold that I want it to remind me of that, I'm not sure.) The song is taken from the album Clinging To A Scheme which is due for release April 21 via Labrador. The single will also feature a cover of Sade's "All About Our Love" and will be available in shops March 24. But until then, you can download the single right here. [...]

I don't claim to stay on top what O'Spada are up to, but I do think they're pretty good and I gotta support my fellow Swedes, right? This time it's a remix of the track "Ten Strikes" done by French producer DAZE , as well as a video of the original version of the song, done by "two Englishmen using old stock footage and stop motion animation to create a very surrealistic experience." Yeah, you be the judge of that. Personally I think the DAZE remix is much sharper than the original. O'Spada [...]

I'm a sucker for pretty pictures of pretty people, especially if the people in question also happen to be very talented. This is why I'm bringing the latest issue of Flaunt Magazine to your attention. Besides starring in a beautiful series of photographs taken by Kurt Iswarienko , Charlotte Gainsbourgh is also being interviewed in this issue (obviously that's not her on the cover though). The French songbird talks about collaborating with Beck on her latest album, the emergency brain surgery she went through after suffering a blow to the head in 2007, [...]

Despite already featuring them on the site twice, I haven't given Desire a proper introduction yet. To be honest I wasn't even planning to but it only seems appropriate now that they make their third appearance (albeit with the help of some guest stars). Hailing from Montreal, Canada, Desire consists of Megan, Johnny and Natty. Befitting their Italian disco sound, the band is signed to American label Italians Do It Better , home of similar artists Glass Candy, Chromatics, Nite Jewel amongst others. Their album II was released last year and - while [...]

~ PNAU feat. Ladyhawke - "Embrace" ( Fredrick Carlsson Epic Mix) ~ Is there such a thing as sci-fi pop? Well, if not then that's what I'm dubbing this. The synthesizers make me think of a spaceship so if they were to make a video of this version, that's where it would take place: on a cool spaceship with white interior. The song was great to being with but I really like what Carlsson did with it. It is indeed rather epic. ~ Terribly Empty Pockets - [...]

It could very well be the season of winter or simply my melancholic mood, but lately I've had a craving for cold, instrumental electro-pop. The American Dollar's latest album Atlas seemingly being the catalyst, one-man project Fragments Of Winter (real name Tristan Irvine) has now also joined my current musical rotation of chilly cold pop. Although it borders on a Jean Michel Jarre-sound a few times, Skyrockets is a very enjoyable album. The songs do indeed sound as if they are made out of winter fragments with its cold, snow-clad soundscape, but [...]

Illustration by Carolyn Alexander. I don't particularly like doing best of lists but I felt the need to make up for my slack around here lately, hence this mix. Basically it's songs that stood out for me during the year or represent albums I listened to a lot. It's probably a bit inconclusive because a) I can't remember everything I listened to and, b) I currently have a headache which gives me a free pass for not spending a lot of time compiling this. The mix is divided into two parts and consist of the following [...]

I can't seem to be able to make up my mind whether I want to continue with this site or not, but until that decision is fully made, here are a few new tunes that I kind of like: ~ LANTERNS. - "Midnight Psalms (Alright!)" ~ ~ Boy Genius - "Blame Love" ~ ~ The Slits - "Ask Ma" ~

I'm sorry for the lack of updates lately, but things have been a bit crazy: my niece has some sort of mysterious illness causing her to faint which no doubt has the whole family worried, my mom scared the living daylights out of us by falling and hitting her head (she's OK now) and then I got a stubborn bout of the flu. A bunch of birthdays and - of course - Christmas is coming up now, so I can't promise that things pick up any time soon, but I'll try! ~ The Wolfgang Press - "I [...]

Electronically driven indie-rockers Tigercity have a couple of US tour dates coming up, in support of their new record Ancient Lover . I've had a quick listen of it and have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. They sound rather like a modern (and judging from the picture, a less glamorous looking) version of Roxy Music most of the time, and coming from someone who loves Roxy Music, that is indeed a compliment. Besides the album and tour, the guys also have a new video for the single "Fake Gold" which [...]
60 Watt Kid - Virtual Plastic Surgery from JOSH on Vimeo . Taken from their new album We Come From The Bright Side , the video for 60 Watt Kid's "Virtual Plastic Surgery" is as kooky and awesome as the song itself. ~ "Virtual Plastic Surgery" ~
