In case any of you doubters were worried that Florence Welch and her machine couldn’t do it again, she’s gone and smashed it with her latest single Shake It Out . Last month, she teased us with What The Water Gave Me which acted as a tasty ‘amuse-bouche’ before the main course. As is expected, the track is a full-blown epic featuring her booming vocals and grandiose choruses. If anything, this somehow manages to sound even bigger and better than most of the material form 2009’s Lungs. It’s great to see Florence & the [...]

British indie-rockers Yuck have been in and around the scene for a short while now. Their self-titled debut did well enough for their record label to rerelease a double-disc edition of it, including this beautiful new song called Soothe Me . It’s more slow-burning than hard-rocking and has incredibly smooth edges. Preview it below and listen to the full thing over at Pitchfork before it gets released on October 11: Soothe Me by Yuck
Nike - Boca juniors: The Voice of La Bonbonera

Despite Def Jam’s best attempts to not let The-Dream (Terius Nash to his mother) release a free album for the masses, he went through with it anyway because he just doesn’t care. 1977 is for the fans and acts as an enjoyable listen which takes us through his complicated emotions with the female sex. His break-up with Christina Milian was well documented and things clearly haven’t been working out for the luckless playboy. Wedding Crasher is my favourite track off the album (which can be downloaded HERE ) because it takes a soft, [...]

Lana Del Rey describes herself as the “gangsta Nancy Sinatra” and if that isn’t enough to grab your attention then you only have to look through her stunning photos to understand why this girl is the real deal. Equipped with model looks and a sultry voice to complete the package, I’d be incredibly surprised if she doesn’t cause some serious waves over the coming year. Video Games [ video ] is the first single that has capitulated her rise and it features a retro and melancholic sound along with a husky voice full of vintage tones. [...]
The Cool Kids: Summer Jam

Lets keep this one short and sweet. Penguin Prison has a strange alias, but he’s an NYC kid who shot to fame with some help from the folk over at Neon Gold and is now signed to Downtown Records. His latest single Don’t Fuck With My Money has a very 1980’s synth-tastic feel to it and will spearhead his new album which can be purchased over HERE . Combining pop, electro and some funk, it’ll be interesting to see if this kicks off big time. Don’t Fuck With [...]

Fanfarlo are a criminally underrated outfit from London town who were once hailed as the English answer to Arcade Fire. Whilst they may not be as epic-sounding, there is something inherently warm and appealing about their music. The five-piece will follow up their incredible 2009 debut album with a second coming in early 2012. Replicate is the first taste we get from the upcoming LP and it gradually builds with a violin repetition until it fully breaks at the 1:25 mark. Ben Allen (who also helped out with Animal Collective and Deerhunter) is on production duty and fingers [...]

Twenty-eleven is shaping up to be a stellar year for hip-hop and there simply isn’t time to give every blinged up gangster their moment in the spotlight. We’ve all presumably heard Watch The Throne and Tha Carter IV so instead I’ve highlighted some of the quality tracks that might have slipped you by in the last three or four months and slotted them into a twenty song deep mixtape. There are some big acts ( Common , Lil Wayne , The Dream ) and some up-and-comers ( Skizzy Mars , OnCue , Sol ) featured on the tasty track-list [...]
Justice: Audio Video Disco Following up an album as colossal as Cross is no easy feat but it’s one that Justice (French DJs Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay) are faced with come October 25. The sophomore album will be called Audio Video Disco and this here is the title track which closes off the album. It’s the second taste we get after Civilization dropped a few months back and the signs are generally positive. The track has their electronic imprints all over it but lacks a [...]

They say the best things come with time and the two year wait for Theophilus London to release his debut album has been extensive but it’s certainly proved worthwhile. Over the years, many a mixtape of his has dropped (This Charming Mixtape, I Want You, Lovers Holiday) each showcasing his gradual transformation. What started as an alternative Brooklyn rapper going in over choppy electro beats has now evolved into a fully fledged, genre mixing pop star at the top of his game. Theophilus London - Love Is Real [...]

In the weeks leading up to Mayer Hawthorne ’s sophomore album How Do You Do on October 11, he’ll be releasing some goodies every Monday. This week the soulful crooner treated us to a listen of his second single titled The Walk and its as good as anything on his phenomenal debut album. Featuring that incredibly sweet voice of his, he goes through falling in and out of love with some spiky lyrics reminiscent of Cee-Lo Green’s song Fuck You. Stream it over at his official website and download a copy HERE [...]
