a few different songs this week. I mean literally, they're just about all I've been shuffling through. The first two songs are the same but since I discovered the original artist through the cover I've got to provide both. Delta Spirit did a version back in February over on Daytrotter.com of A.A. Bondy's song "Lover's Waltz." I was so taken aback that I didn't even realize it was a cover at first. Needless to say I found out that the amazing song is off of an older AA Bondy album, American Hearts . [...]

Monday the 28th. It's nearly October! October is borderline crazy-jam-packed-IknowI'mgoing towantmoretime month! AHH! Still, I seem to be taking all of this above data in rather calmly. Sipping on a glass of orange juice and eating nearly moldy toast with peanut butter? Quite the calm experience. To keep myself from going crazy in October (oh yeah, did I mention I don't get to see my significant other for quite some time???), I've got to rely on my one fallback-- music. Thus, I've done the unthinkable...the world of torrents and immediate satisfaction. I'm still a little mixed on [...]

My absence dragged on again, busy with school this week. I've been trying to fit music into my busy schedule still though. Bought the new, self-titled Monsters of Folk album yesterday, no surprise there- I'm a giant fan of anything Jim James lays his angelic, reverb-laced vocals on. And I somehow found myself standing in a record store the past weekend looking for Brendan Benson, only to come across the new Beatles re-masters. Of course I couldn't resist, and quickly picked up the new (but old!) White Album . Very well-put together. Over [...]

...and you lose updates for certain things. Since my last post here I've started my college career at SF State and moved into the beautiful city of San Francisco. It's exciting, scary, bold, independent, and memorable all at the same time. But then again, what isn't? I've tried to keep a close eye on new music throughout my move/start of school but I can't say that I've done a great job. I usually try and judge whether or not I'm watching new music by what's currently in my iTunes "Recently Added" playlist. As I type this [...]

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zero's. It's a freakin' mouthful of a band name. And also a very well-crafted summertime album. I downloaded the whole thing today finally, after digging the main single "Janglin'" off their pre-album EP , Here Comes . For some odd reason though, they toned down the album version of that song. I'm not sure why. But whatever the reason, I'm posting the EP version as I feel it personally "jangles" more. Some random items: - I [...]

Back into the blogging world I come. I'm here and ready to type about things again. The ol' MySpace blog simply doesn't cut it anymore. Monsters of Folk (Jim James (fuck yes), Conor Oberst, M. Ward and Mike Mogis) just announced their US and Europe tour dates today. You can find em' here . I'm pissed that they've decided to play in my area on the same day that the third annual Treasure Island Music Festival takes place. But what can I doooo? I'm simply a young fan with no power. [...]

So if you're an Amazon.com fan, you've no doubt seen their MP3 of the day download deals. They've had a lot of hit and miss ones and even a few that I regret not checking out (Hold Steady's "Boys & Girls in America" a few weeks ago). But today they have one of my personal favorite albums of the last 3 years, Andrew Bird's genius "Armchair Apocrypha" - for the ripe deal of only 1.99! Check it here.

It's 2009. A year in which the economy has been battering most people left and right. A year which many have found to be one of the most challenging years of their life. And yet, this past weekend, Coachella 2009 posted the 2nd highest attendance in their 10 years of existence. My mom and I made our second-year trip down to Indio, CA for the historic festival this past Thursday. Walking onto the Polo Grounds Friday we both read the opening page of the Coachella setlist/booklet. I especially liked it - it seemed to put everything [...]

I'm approximately a week behind on my review of the April 3rd Great Lake Swimmers show at the Bottom of the Hill. So here it is. (I wrote this short review for my blogger friend, Liz, over at The Bliss List , so if it feels like it was just cut and copied from a comment on her blog...you know why) 1. First opener that replaced the Winterbirds was Ari Shine. Picture the lovechild of Ben Stiller and Mark Cuban (owner of the Dallas Mavericks/millionaire entrepeneur) and you have that guy. Unimpressive for the most [...]

Odd celebrations on odd days. The girlfriend, Jake + Clara and I took a nice little getaway to the San Francisco Zoo the most recent Wednesday. Praying for no rain on the way there, we got a decent sunshine-y day in between hovering clouds. I say odd celebrations because I found out later that night about April 8th being "Zoo Lovers Day" from a SF Zoo tweet ( twitter.com/sfzoo ). I'm not quite sure how legit the "celebration" is, but here's the link SF Zoo provided - [...]

After a little testing of the blog waters (Wordpress and TypePad), I believe I've finally made a decision (I know, I know, it's been 2 months). I'm sticking here on blogger. Over time I've faced my biggest flaw over and over again. The failure to keep consistent with something. Sure, there's waking up and eating breakfast and flossing at night; the timely easy consistencies in life. But I'm speaking about the other mishaps that I can't keep up with for some strange, potent reason. This music blog that I've always wanted to keep consistent, my self-teaching of guitar, [...]
I'm considering moving my blog yet again to another blogging site. Blogger issued me a copyright infringement e-mail, and without warning, deleted my post. Gone is the full concert review for the Airborne Toxic Event show. Simply put, that's unfair. I put a lot of time into each post, and losing that specific one is something I can't write up again easily. The site I may switch to right now is Typepad. [...]

First off I'll start by saying that I only intended to purchase M. Ward's Hold Time and Asobi Seksu's Hush today. I walked out of my local record store with three albums. Hold Time , the new Audrye Sessions self-titled debut album, and the Dark Was The Night compilation AIDS benefit album. And no Asobi Seksu - I guess that'll have to wait. And I felt pretty damn good. It's great to not only buy CDs, but support local artists and an organization at the same time. Power to [...]

I picked up Dan Auerbach's new record "Keep It Hid" yesterday and I'm already finding myself humming along the songs throughout the day. I had the lead single "I Want Some More" stuck in my head for a good two hours earlier this morning. I read a review somewhere online that said Auerbach almost sounds bit like John Fogerty on this album. I couldn't agree more. There's an old-school CCR rock vibe going on. Fantastic show the other night. The Airborne Toxic Event. While holding possibly the most ridiculous band name of 2008, they put on a damn good show. Driving into the city was a pain in the ass, non-stop rain the whole way down and I took the wrong exit off the freeway therefore making it even harder to find Bottom Of The Hill. But we made it. Fought through the storm to see some live music. Like last week, there were two openers. I'm starting something called [...]

I love these days. Nothing seems to matter. Wake up and just lay in bed. I'm planning on getting out today though and taking an adventure. An adventure of the photography kind. Adventures around here are easy with all of the countryside we have surrouding our quaint little town. Reminds me that I still should get a bike somewhere down the road - I always admire the people who take bike rides on Sundays. (Here's to hoping for [...]
The past few days have been rainy and contrary to popular belief, Californians also love rain. We needdddd rain bad right now. It's been another year of drought and one can only wonder when or if we'll ever see the required amount of annual rainfall again. But enough of that! Weather talk can put you to sleep. A better option? Listen to these tunes, keep warm and watch the rain from inside. I'm really liking [...]

Took my first ever trip to SF's famous Bottom Of The Hill concert house/club last night. I say house only because it's basically a converted house. Or at least that's how I saw it. Lately I've been seeing things in a generally weird way. Anyway, aside from that the show rocked. Openers Dawes ( myspace.com/dawestheband ) and Other Lives ( myspace.com/otherlives ) provided two nice sets before Delta Spirit came on. My one complaint is that Other Lives didn't have their cello player turned up enough or something because the poor woman sat in the corner [...]

I'm finally going to get back into this music blog business. It's a new year and I'd like to start it up again -- hopefully keeping up with it. Starting this blog off will be some new Animal Collective from their recent Merriweather Post Pavillion album released a few weeks ago. I'm also throwing on some My Morning Jacket because I can. Ha.
