This new video from Wave Machines is pretty cool stop-motion animation...directed by Stuart Lanceley and produced by Token Films. Video: The Greatest Escape We Ever Made by Wave Machines

Singer-songwriter John Vanderslice first appeared on the music scene as a member of the band, Mk Ultra. This San Francisco-based band issued three albums throughout the 90's during an on/off career, 'Mk Ultra', 'Original Motion Picture Soundtrack' and 'The Dream Is Over'. Vanderslice also started Tiny Telephone, a small recording studio, in 1997. Tiny Telephone gained a reputation as an affordable recording outlet for San Francisco's indie rock community and it also produced Vanderslice's solo debut, 'Mass Suicide Occult Figurines' in 2000. After his debut album, Vanderslice went on to [...]

Portland band, The Intelligence is getting ready for the release of their forthcoming album 'Fake Surfers', which is due out May 26th courtesy of In The Red Records. This is the kind of stuff I like to hear as far as album explanations go. 'Fake Surfers' is a record about guitars that gear up, and then go (nowhere, and fast). It's a collection of songs about having the dumb strength to pick a fight over a weak argument. The essence of Fake Surfers is a rusty home improvement tool [...]

Another track from Passion Pit's forthcoming album 'Manners' has been making the rounds, and it has only increased my impatience for the May 19th release. Rostam Batmanglij (of Vampire Weekend) and Wes Miles (of Ra Ra Riot) have apparently been working on a side project titled, Discovery , since last year, but just recently a couple of their songs started making visible rounds on the internet. Discovery's debut LP should appear sometime this summer. I feel like I am going to be shunned and placed into some type of music blogger purgatory for saying this but, I am not really loving either of these tracks. Don't get me wrong, I adore Vampire Weekend and Ra [...]

I was rather entranced by 'The Dragon's Claw' and got sort of misty eyed watching the cute little animals getting plucked from there habitats by the industrial corporate machine. The imagery splendidly matches the narrative of sound, but the ending was bitter sweet. Video: The Dragon's Claw by Justice Of The Unicorns

The Presets are Julian Hamilton (keyboard and vocals) and Kimberly Moyes (drums and keyboard). They are an electronic two piece from Sydney who met in the early 90s while studying classical music at Sydney's Conservatorium of Music. The Presets released their second album 'Apocalypso' via Modular Records about a year ago but for some reason they have been popping up in my headphones as of late. Another band from Glasgow has been tickling my eardrums. We Were Promised Jetpacks are a four-piece rock band, formed in Edinburgh, United Kingdom in 2003 by high school friends Adam Thompson (Guitar/Vocals), Michael Palmer (Guitar), Sean Smith (Bass) and Darren Lackie (Drums). They are currently signed to Fat Cat Records, with their first full-length album is due out in June. Looks like the band FAR , who are signed to the Vagrant label, covered Ginuwine's claim to fame, 'Pony'. Apparently the Interwebs spawned a viral interest in said track, which apparently started as an inside joke, for a fake band. Take A Listen: Pony by FAR FAR - MySpace

On May19th Iron and Wine is slated to release, 'Around the Well', a 2-CD/3-LP collection of rare tracks ranging from out-of-print to never-before-released. In May, Iron and Wine will be performing ten intimate shows in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. Currently Iron and Wine is offering a free download of, 'The Shepherd's Dog Alternate Tracks'...which presents two of my favorite songs, Boy With A Coin and Lovesong Of The Buzzard, in a beautifully bare fashion.
