A remix of Disclosure's 'Tenderly' from Northern vibe-machine Kidnap Kid, this sounds like it was conceived in an optimistic vacuum. Bouncier than Mr. Blobby's testicles covered in Flubber, it has a smooth, tropical vibe that will leave you yearning for a cocktail-filled pineapple (unless you have a heart of stone). I'm pretty convinced that if you stab someone during this tune, jelly beans will gush from the wound. Yum. In terms of release, we've been assured that it's coming soon and will probably be available as a free download, so head over to Kidnap Kid's Facebook page [...]
If your friend with the funny fringe says he's heard this before, he's probably lying. Straight out of the place I call home via Notts and Leeds, Atlas are a new production duo with a talent for deep vibes. 'This Is' featuring Emmo comprises intricate percussion, immersive bass and silky vocals which drop into mellifluously pitched up sections like beams refracted through night-time raindrops. These guys have a promising look for the future, although that's largely irrelevant because I've still got my fingers crossed for a zombie apocalypse...so hopefully we'll be spending more time killing things [...]
Scheduled for a February 6th release, The Hope is the first single from Scuba's forthcoming album Personality . A sinister ten-ton beat laced with down-pitched vocals and the occasional section of euphoric chords, it's like being hit over the head with a groovy brick. The less abrasive but equally bassy 'Flash Addict' appears on the flip and was actually made available for free download this week, so you can grab that after the jump. Just to clarify, when I mention Scuba, I'm referring to the seminal electronic artist, not Scuba Steve , [...]
Slated for a late February/Early March release, No Sleep EP is the latest offering from Finland's mercurial dubstep export Desto . I listen to so much future garage, post-dubstep and [insert other strangely coined genre here] these days, that I rarely seem to indulge in some good old chest-boxing dubstep, and this is exactly what Desto delivers. Accented with a cold melodious twist that transports me to the Arctic tundra, a blast of 'Monsters About' evokes vivid images of the outpost in The Thing (which is actually set in Antarctica, but whatever). You should probably [...]
Out Monday on Push and Run, Treehouse is the second release from Ifan "not James Blake" Dafydd. Comprising title track 'Treehouse' with 'To Me' on the flip, it's as stirring and symphonic as 'Miranda' and I'm not talking about the androgynous comedienne who looks to the camera after every single joke (kind of like a poor man's David Brent). As beautiful as this release is, it's not likely to get much actual treehouse play because not many of those things are rigged for sound. Apart from the expensive ones Hollywood lawyers build for their [...]

Right kids, I'm going to keep this brief. Fancy the chance to win tickets to see Randomer, Throwing Snow, Becoming Real, Deft and JJMumbles in a couple of weeks? Good, because I'm going to lay the opportunity right out in front of you like a cheeseboard begging to be ravaged. The architects of such an inspired line-up are the folks behind club night Triangle and, being the philanthropic bunch they are, they've given us two pairs of tickets to offer up for grabs. Your grabs. Oh yes indeed. How to Enter All you [...]
Personally, I am yet to attend Outlook festival. Last year, my tuxedo wasn't ready in time and I simply couldn't turn up in the same one I'd worn to the summer ball. My darling Miffy would have been too embarrassed to even look at me and I daren't imagine what her father would have said...yeah, so there. Anyway, announced today, the line-up for this year's Outlook festival is bigger than the ego of the guy who invented bacon. Featuring Fat Freddy's Drop, Phife from Tribe, Scuba, DMZ, The Bug and a hell of a lot more, I would [...]
Way back in October 2011 (so, like, forever ago) I described Pedestrian's musical temperament as "wondrously delicate yet lush", a statement which could be partially applied to this remix of 'Mouves' from Tropics' recent album Parodia Flare . By partially applied, I mean that while it's certainly not as delicate as Hei Poa , it is still lusher than a tropical bird convention being held in the default Windows XP wallpaper field...which, I must admit, is rather lush. I would have actually come up with a brand new [...]
So it's Wednesday night, time for some speedcore and a prolonged session of rough German sex, right? Well, not quite. Maybe this will fit the mood a little better. Deep, tranquil and underpinned by a simple yet methodically pulsing bassline, this Blynk remix of Qualmsound's 'Water' is an artfully laid-back affair which would perfectly soundtrack the sunrise after a heavy night out. Not that I would know anything about that, of course. I don't go out because my only friend is a dog. Did I mention it's free? Listen and download below. [...]
Posted today by the good folks over at The Guardian , this is a full-length stream of Be Strong , the forthcoming album from Joe Goddard and Raf Rundell, a duo collectively known as The 2 Bears . Having listened to the whole thing this afternoon, I can assure you of its deeply groove-endowed and occasionally eccentric nature, which had me nodding my head like one of those springy door stops on a particularly funky dose of speed (I don't understand that either). Of the tracks that I had previously not heard, 'Get Together' really [...]
Bobby Champs may sound like the name of an early '80s darts player, but he's actually a rather talented music producer fellow man chap from Brighton. The newest addition to the Pictures Music roster, we've been assured that he's hard at work DJing and remixing and that a single should be on its way soon. For the impatient among us, you can sample Bobby's style immediately with the rather charming 'All Night'. I rather like it. I reckon could listen to it all night...I said, I reckon I could listen to it ALL NIGHT! [...]
Forthcoming on Permanent Vacation, Fin (ƒin) is the debut album of Barcelona producer John Talabot , whom you may remember from last year's transcendent Families EP . Due to drop on January 27th, my levels of excitement for this release exceed even the delirium I experienced when I first saw an advert for Aquila . You'll see why when you listen to the track below. 'So Will Be Now...' featuring Pional is nothing short of hypnotic, as rich textures collide with mercurial, downtuned vocals to produce a captivating 7 minutes of deep, pulsing [...]
Forthcoming on Modeselektor's 50 Weapons label, Transistor Rhythm is the hotly anticipated debut album from Addison Groove , the alias of Headhunter who made a huge splash in 2010 with 'Footcrab'. Slated for a March 30th release, the first snippet of the album was unveiled yesterday in the form of 'Sooperlooper', which you can cast an ear (or two) over below. Personally I think it's a darn corker and I reckon the barn dance will be a-jumpin' when I drop it tonight. Tobias is gonna freak! He'll probably throw his hat in the air again. [...]
With the EP officially being described as a "techno zap fest" and Sei A's original version of 'Flux' attracting the label "psychedelic cha-cha", I scuttled over to this like an overzealous crab and used my big snappy claws to slap it on the gramophone...or, at least, press play on my digital whiz machine (computer). Putting the majority of the EP aside though, the tune I'm really interested in is Martyn's remix of 'Flux'. A little bit heavier than his usual output, it bears that characteristic underlying warmth, which manages to endure despite the [...]
Forthcoming on R&S sister label Apollo Recordings, '8Bit Romance' is the latest offering from Cheshire-based producer Submerse . The anthem of the care-free future android, it's a combination of delicate glitch, flighty textures and a Stretch Armstrong bassline (if you can possibly imagine what that means). Essentially, the feeling I'm trying to convey is that it's very pleasant and hopefully one day, after working on my creative writing skills, I'll be able to express such an opinion without saying "siiiiiick" and throwing my hands about like a drunk air traffic controller. I've also included a [...]
Perseus categorises his music as "tropical euphoria", which sounds like what you'd experience if you washed down a tab of LSD with a carton of Um Bongo on an exotic beach somewhere in East Asia. This tune, 'Russian Girlfriends' , is very much in line with this newly coined genre, evoking images of sun-soaked '90s rave festivals and, strangely, not actual Russian girlfriends. That seems to conjure more a snowy image...with furry hats. Nice furry hats. If there was a video to this, it would be full of happy people doing cool things and wearing sunglasses [...]
As you know, I'm prone to the occasional UK hip-hop post, but I tend to keep it fairly chilled out because understated beats and cathartic lyricism is what I loves yo. That being said [rap battle judging joke], here's Cruger with an introspective discourse of unrealised ambition and general regret. It is, however, accented with a hint of optimism because what he's essentially doing is acknowledging his personal flaws and proposing solutions, no doubt with a view to ultimately fulfilling them. I'm pretty sure it will strike a chord with a lot of you because I know you [...]
Even though the last ever tune from The Streets was the conclusively titled 'Close the Book' - in response to the opening of Original Pirate Material which was 'Turn the Page' - indicating that the last page of that particular saga had been turned, it has now come to light that an actual book, written by Mike Skinner alongside Ben Thompson, is due for release on March 28th. There is currently very little information available on the memoir, dubbed The Story of the Streets , and all we know so far has been gleaned from [...]
The 2 Bears absolutely smashed it last year with their whimsical hit 'Bear Hug' lodging itself in the brains of many bear/electronic music lovers like a funky splinter. This year is set to be even more of a grizzly ride with their debut album Be Strong due for a January 29th release which will no doubt send us folks residing here in the 'blogosphere' (as people who write newspapers like to call it) bloody mental. First, however, we have been gifted - or at least, gifted the opportunity to purchase - a cracking remixes EP featuring some [...]
As prolific as a slutty frog, Dark Sky are always putting out ridiculous tunes. 'High Rise' , for example, was definitely one of my favourite tracks of 2011 and I have spent many a night bouncing around like a sentient pogo stick to its rubbery bassline. Well today I acted similarly mental yet happy fashion as, much to my delight, the trio decided to gift us mere mortals with a free track, entitled 'Standoff' , as a slightly late but very much appreciated Christmas gift. Of course, free track doesn't always mean quality track [...]
