Work, play, and travel have been in full effect this August. Between finishing my summer stint in the northern rockies, riding trains and driving roundtrip across the country (Missoula, Portland, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Chicago), catching some beach-time and hitting a music festival, it seems that once again time has slipped away into the depths of... time. But despair not, because I can remember a few of the puzzle-pieces that made August so supremely worthwhile. Without further ado, here is my list of Augustly essentials. [...]

Beni is back in the limelight and this time around he has a full LP in his bag of tricks. The first glimpse of the album is the bouncy disco-house track "It's a Bubble" which was released along with a behind-the-scenes documentary of assembling the bubble crew and an instructional video for how to do the bubble dance. What's more, Beni has even extended an invitation for anyone to send him their interpretation of the bubble to compete for spot on the crew. Check out Modular's Beni page for all of the above. Bubble aside, [...]
In their second year, the Pacific Festival: OC has arranged a massive line-up headlined by Orange County-native Snoop Dogg and featuring a 'who's who' of hype-worthy artists such as Cut Copy, Toro y Moi, Jacques Renault, Classixx, and more. In true LA/OC fashion, the festival presents itself with an air of faux-celebrity as displayed in the official trailer by the Cobra Snake. We've been longing to make it to one of Steve Aoki and Collaborative Media's events for some time now (or since we started getting their [...]

image via omnos I've been wanting to do a post on Dual Shaman for a while now, but each time I sit down to do so the right words escape me. I've been finding it nearly impossible to put into language the ethereal landscapes that their tracks traverse. Certainly, the only genre that comes close to containing Dual Shaman is tech-house, but that description doesn't even begin to describe their intricate orchestrations of industrial crashes and tribal syncopations that clamor around wriggling melodies whose weaving orbits scour the desolate terrain of synthetic resonances. Below [...]

Lately I've been feeling sadly out of the loop on whatever is happening in music these days. So, when the guys from No Wav. tipped me to one of their latest releases, The Travalar EP by the suave and stylish MC known as Kris Mars, I was somewhat reassured that my assumptions were only somewhat correct. Because as excited as I am about this artist, I can't help but feel that at least one of these tracks, in particular 'The Painter,' has already garnered tons of hype. If it hasn't... well then I think it probably should. [...]

image via strumpet101 This is a 'better late than never' post since I've been sleeping on this video since it was released last month. But earlier today as I was showing a friend Holiday For Strings' debut album Favorite Flavor (which we wrote about April of last year), I realized that I needed to finally get around to watching this video for "Unwilling/Not Able" directed by Daniel Eskils. What a blessing it was, too. Cause as I sit here dripping with sweat for lack of air conditioning [...]

Summer just got deep with the release of Julio Bashmore's remix of the new CLASSIXX single "Into The Valley." Driven by stuttering hi-hats, low filtered piano stabs, and accented with reverberating blips and a soulful vocal track, this is a cut that fits perfectly into Bashmore's rapidly growing repertoire of moody Chicago-esque house. You can check out the track below or you may be able to catch CLASSIXX spinning it as they finish up their North America "Into The Valley Tour."

via sigurdr This may be a bit preemptive but it sure feels like summer, and if this weather isn't getting you into the summer vibe then Downtown Party Network are determined to get you vibing with their latest mix "Summer to Begin 2011." It's been a while since I've gotten down to nu-disco but these cuts are fresher than anything in years past. So, pour yourself a cool drink and enjoy the sensation of the coming summer. [...]

[image via flickr.com/bestrated1/ / CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 ] You may have noticed that we have slowed down our output considerably here over the past few months. But there is no need to worry, for our musical appetites are as voracious as ever, and, though we have been mostly silent, we have still kept watch over the sonic landscape that is the blogosphere. And thus, we are back once again to break our silence and share with you our brightest moments of third chapter of 2009. [...]

[image via flickr.com/caesarsebastian/ | CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 ] The latest from Don Diablo , Rave Rave Rave , opens ominously with a low bass hit that echoes through percussion samples as a synth growls just underneath. A woman's gasp and a man's distorted beatbox provide the only relief from the darkness. A melody is teased but is quickly overcome by a sweeping resonance. At this the bass reorganizes and begins to grow in fervor as the voices become more frantic. Before it is able to peak, however, the melody [...]
