What do Bloc Party, Klaxons, Uffie, The Rakes, The Horrors, Metronomy, The Whip and Foals have in common, besides making fantastic music? Well, all of them have been spotted at a party thrown by People Are Germs. People Are Germs are a DJ duo from London and they are getting quite famous. It gets even better, as they confirmed to play at I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor II, this Saturday in the Make-Up Club in Ghent (as both Gerlin&Gisèle already mentioned). It's going to be one hell of [...]
It seems like I have been blogging a bit less the last couple of weeks, and it won't be getting any better because I'm leaving the country for a couple of weeks. If you're at London Heathrow today in the early evening, let's kill some time together. For everyone else, I'll still be posting at least one post a week so you'll still get your weekly music fix. Monday. The Portuguese electronic band Buraka Som Sistema releases their first studio album 'Black Diamond' in the United States. Last year they won the European [...]

People can say what they want, but they can't deny one fact, these guys do have style. I'm talking about Joe lean & the Jing Jang Jong and they are getting our third style award. They have a classic style. I'm referring to the shirts, turtlenecks, ties, blazers, boots and laced shoes (which I absolutely adore). They combine it with more modern stuff, like the skinny jeans, the ripped shirts or the more modern tees. For me, they are THE example of how my perfect guy would look like. [...]
... we'll get bigger thrills than a kid looking for Easter eggs. Gerlin already informed you about the 'I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor p.22 party in a previous post (if you haven't read that one, do it know!), now it's frYars' turn to incite. And how could he do that better than with a song? But the fun doesn't end here. Here's another playlist Valley Girls wanted to share, enjoy! Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy [ mp3 ] [ buy ] The Asteroids [...]

I found a new interesting blog and it has got me überexcited. It's called Darling Darling . Her closet is packed with clothes. It reminds me of myself, as I no longer have the space to put away my clothes, bags and shoes. She's a big fan of dresses, these in all the prints you can imagine. A vintage fan as well. But what I really love about her are the shoes: the cutest boots, lace shoes, I wish I could own them all. She also isn't afraid to mix and match. I've seen some [...]

This morning me & Gisèle got an email from Jacoba with an article in attachment. Last week there was a concert in Gisèle's kitchen again, from The Bear That Wasn't this time. Nils, the boy behind The Bear That Wasn't, took place on a chair armed with his guitar and sung us some beautiful songs. It was some time after this that he was enlightened/inspired to do something crazy. And that's what the article was all about: Nils is going to live free for 365 days and will be staying somewhere else every day... He came [...]

What do sickos and carpetbaggers have in common besides an unhappy childhood? They have Harlem Shakes to sing about them. They started out with a more rock oriented sound, but after a lot of alterations within the band they found themselves a definite lineup and a sound. Indie pop with a hint of Latin music and synthezisers. In spite of the latest hyped bands from Brooklyn, Harlem Shakes prove that holding onto pop tunes can be rewarding. In 2007 they self-released the Burning Birthdays EP, took a short break to get some education and are now back with [...]

I stumbled upon a very amusing collection of images last week. I was browsing through the Klaxons forum and ended up in their pictures collection. Apparently, they had played a secret gig at Madame Jojo's. (Madame Jojo's is the world famous Kitsch cabaret, located in Soho, London) For this occasion, the Klaxons lads decided to dress up as women and other hilarious outfits. I think Simon went through Lovefoxxx's wardrobe this time: I just love the fact that they would wear about anything on stage. Here's an image of the [...]

The final episode of the third season of Skins was shown this Thursday. This was the first with the 'new generation' that involved around Effy Stonem and her friends. It had an open ending that couldn't satisfy the appetite of the majority of the viewers, but those reactions were moderate in comparison to the chilly reception the new series got at the start. The actors and crew knew what they were up to when they had to replace the much loved original characters and storylines, but the flood of negative [...]

I've come across a lot of pictures lately where PAINT plays an important role. It gives something extra to the ensemble. Think beyond makeup, make your way into the idea of bodypaint. From a face to an arm, just a little detail can do a lot. From now on, I think all people should put up some paintbrushes next to their closet. It'll brighten up the world a bit and put style in a whole other point of view. A lot of bands already [...]

Some joyous news and some less joyous news. First the not so joyous: on Sunday our friend Hermine decided to stop writing for Neon Enlightenment. She's just too occupied with school. No hard feelings whatsoever Herms! She will, however, still be helping us out with the joyous news, keep on reading to find out what that is.. A couple of weeks ago I got an excited call from Phara, telling me someone had posted something on our Facebook page (I wouldn't know cause I don't do Facebook) asking us to do something for an upcoming party at [...]

One band has got a grip on me the last months. Always finding a way back to my ears. They're called White Lies . I don't know why, but they put me in some sort of cocoon. I could stay there for days, just listening to their music and feel every emotion there is to feel. It's been a while since a band made me this way. Last Saturday I went to see them at the Botanique. Every time I walk in I just start smiling. It definitely has my heart. The gig took place at [...]
I just discovered something totally awesome. Well, I'd discovered it about a week ago but only decided to have a look just now and it has already made me happy for the rest of the day. Basically, a whole lot of my favourite bands have teamed up and started a blog called Awesome Pals . The underlying idea is that music business today is very competitive but these bands just wanna be pals and share their witty thoughts with the world. But what bands are they then? Los Campesinos!, Sky Larkin, [...]
When we decided to attend the Animal Collective show on Wednesday, I wanted to have a foretaste so I surfed to Fabchannel: the source for live recordings in Paradiso and other Dutch venues. Much to my surprise, however, I discovered that not only Fabchannel had put an end to its activities, but it had also wiped its entire archive off the internet. For the exact reasons, read the goodbye letter by Justin Kniest. I'd like to thank Fabchannel for bringing us these countless shows with minute images and clear sound throughout the years. Hopefully we'll meet [...]

Me & Gisèle had plans to go see Animal Collective yesterday for about three months but when it was finally there we weren't entirely sure anymore and it was still pretty expensive. But then someone left a shout on LastFM that he had two spare tickets and wanted to sell them for 20 euros. I was almost tearing down my house out of enthusiasm and let him know I was VERY interested. Well we got the tickets in the end, after confusing him with some guy from Wallonia. Thanks again Kristof ! On to the [...]
I might just be going crazy but everytime I hear Friendly Fires's latest single Skeleton Boy and the chorus sets in I want to sing other lyrics cause it reminds me of another song A LOT. Does anyone else hear the similarities between these two? Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy Olive - You're Not Alone Exactly. Gerlin
The classroom. The hallway. The kitchen. The boxingschool. All pictures by Erwin Olaf . If you want to see more, his exhibition is at the Photo Museum Antwerp till June 7th 2009.

I know Gerlin discusses the (musical) crushes, but I had to make an exception after seeing Hockey . Not Canadian sportsmen who prefer to hit eachother instead of the puck, but four young men on bicycles. I remember my friend laughing at me when we were 16 and I told her I was more interested in a boy on a bicycle than a boy on a motorcycle. That week I was branded as the girl who wanted to be taken to a date on a tandem. I wish I could have set these fellows as an example back then. [...]

One night I didn't want to go to sleep, and to top it off there was nothing on TV. Or so I thought... I kept switching the channels until a familiar face struck my attention. It was Miles Kane from the The Rascals. At first I thought it was just a live performance but very soon they switched from Miles to a street view and ended up in Hairy Records. Now I got it, I was watching a show about Liverpool. And it's called Rock and the city. The basic setting is a map from Liverpool. They highlight [...]
