Last night I had the pleasure of seeing the Asteroids Galaxy Tour play a show at Bowery Ballroom. What I totally didn't expect, was to fall in love with their opener, She Keeps Bees. A trio I had never heard of, and instantly remembered because of their unique name and 60s retro rock sound, (reminiscent of a bad ass chick singer version of The Black Keys), I was blown away. The lead singer was a swaggy, long-haired chick by the name of Jessica Larrabee, and by the time their set was over, I was both sad and totally in the [...]

Last weekend I was at what was probably the best club in NYC, or LA for that matter, on a Saturday night. I'm saying so because the crowd of girls that existed in that space was just phenomenal. If you're anything like me and love tall chicks with pretty faces and beautiful smiles that remind you of a Victoria's Secret catalogue, then enough said. As I was chopping it up with Hector earlier, and discussing patterns, I figured that I wanted to get home and write. I thought to myself, 'I'm going to write about LIFE , but before [...]

Oh sounds like a dream to me..." - Destroyer Last week marked the end of our anti-winter series but this week we thought it be a cool idea to look back at what ended up being 9 weeks of wonderful music thanks to Sr. Ryan Radler. A few months ago I saw a humbling comment on Facebook from this Ryan Radler dude asking us to check out his mixes. Most of our relationships happen this way so I did. Now I'm an aesthetically driven person, I love details, colors, beauty, symmetry, simplicity etc. Whether [...]

I'm just, tryin to stay above water y'know Just stay busy, stay workin Puff told me like, the key to this joint The key to staying on top of things is treat everything like it's your first project, know what I'm saying? Like it's your first day like back when you was an intern Like, that's how you try to treat things like, just stay hungry" - Notorious B.I.G. Interview I love hearing [...]

I saw Penguin Prison perform this at Tammany Hall sometime ago, at the time the song was completely new and there wasn't even a recorded version of it. I stood there with my girl groovin' and thinking how cool the groove was when all of a sudden Chris Glover hit switched to that falsetto in the chorus - You fuck with my money!?! And you'll be sorry oh! I immediately had chills running down my body. I was literally in the middle [...]

Today is a bittersweet story as it is with both sadness and joy that I present to you the 2011 conclusion to Ryan Radlers wonderful mixtape series, anti-winter 3 c. Week after week Ryan has given summer luxurious and comprehensive soundtrack setting a unique vibe for all our estival activities - Dear anti-winter, we'll miss you. When I use to perform classical music under the tutelage of the the late great Dr. Walter Turnbull we learned that clapping in between movements or grand pauses is inappropriate. That always fascinated me because Dr. T was an incredible teacher and got us sing classics like [...]

I've been going on night runs lately, and I can't help but feel like it's been putting my entire life into better perspective. We run around all day sometimes feeling lost and robotic, and then when we come home, we usually just rest up and laze. Or watch Mad Men. That's great in theory, but I've found that my runs in the evening actually allow me to stop being a robot for a minute, and start thinking about the real. What's going on? I work all day, interacting with several different types of people in different locations, and I smile [...]

It's 5 AM and I've been up since 4:30 with more energy than I've had in years... Winds of change they blow in my direction..." I spent the last year of my life trying to build on a weak foundation and the whole time it led to nothing but trouble. At the end of the day, you can find a million ways to view a situation but some people are simply full of crap so hope and idealism have no place in the situation. We have a tendency [...]

Whenever an early '00s Roc-A-Fella joint pops up on my Itunes I immediately get nostalgic and end up spending a good portion of my day shuffling through the endless amount of classics they dropped during that period. Just look at the lineup Dame Dash was putting on wax: Jay-Z, Memph Bleek, Cam'ron and The Diplomats, Beanie Siegel, the State Property collective, all backed by Just Blaze and early, hungry Kanye production. An unbelievable time for East Coast hip-hop, and we as fans certainly reaped the benefits with a strong effort dropping seemingly every month. Despite the tremendous amount of talent [...]

Don't get stuck in the meantime, no such thing as the meantime..." Those are the last two lines in this song and what a way to go out with a bang. I don't know if it's human nature or some strange pychological comfort but we have this tendency to settle with the initial intention of doing something else later. Don't get me wrong, everything is a process so in that undertaking you're quite likely to engage in unfavorable things but then again how many people do you know with a legit plan that they [...]

It's Wednesday but it feels like a Monday, is that weird? I'm okay with it for now, because I know when the weekend rolls around it's going to be a really blissful surprise. Regardless, last weekend I had the pleasure of seeing a friend I hadn't seen in quite some time. This is very relevant to this swaggy track you're about to hear, so bear with me. This friend of mine is someone I would call my musical equal, because I think we're on exactly the same level of love for music, in every regard. Ever since we met last [...]

I was in complete denial about summer ending till I went to the Caribbean this weekend and felt that amazing Cabarete beach weather - yeah summer is over. I've been traveling a lot my whole life, there's something about waking up in different countries within a matter of days that does it for me. I'll never take that for granted and music has made it possible so cheers to that. I woke up this morning still feeling like an islander but regaining my New York State of Mind and the first thing I did was put on the new anti-winter [...]

First of all, DR was off the hook! We played on the beach to an amazing crowd, Dynasty Electric absolutely lit the place on fire and everyone had an epic time. Of course we had the music banging louder than the rest so the police showed up to shut us down at about 3:30 AM right in the middle of the madness. Somehow the owners convinced the cops to let us back on and the party just got wilder after that, we ended up rockin till about 6:30 in the morning and somehow I woke up in a beach chair about [...]

That's right folks, Kev and I are headed back to the Dominican Republic tomorrow to play at Cabarete Beach after a performance that same night from Brooklyns own Dynasty Electric - fresh. If this is anything like our other parties in DR we'll be at the Viva Whindam Resort from 10PM Saturday night till an unknown time the next day. For all our DR readers make sure to get in touch with me or someone from ShaveUrLegz.com if you want to go. I'm so grateful for these opportunities, my life has been a non stop dream so far [...]

Yesterday marked the 15th anniversary of the tragic death of Tupac Shakur. While I originally planned to get this post up yesterday, it proved difficult to choose the right song being that the man had an incredible catalog of classic records. His versatility remains unmatched, no rapper could seamlessly flow between subject matter like 'Pac could. Whether it be a party track ("I Get Around"), a battle record ("Hit 'Em Up"), a song for his mother ("Dear Mama"), or some hardcore gangster shit ("Ambitionz Az A Ridah") you could always feel his passion and love for the music through his [...]

I have to say that I've been quite the fan of Röyksopp for sometime now. They certainly have a knack for doing things to my ears that I will probably never understand, but have come to enjoy so much nonetheless. In this past week, I've learned a few things. I'm at a new apartment in Williamsburg and I love it a lot, but I've come to know that there are way more families in the neighborhood than I expected. One of them happens to live next door to me. This isn't an issue to me, and I wouldn't [...]

I'm a hundred miles and running right now so I have no choice but to make this a quick one. Ryan sent me a brand spanking new mixtape over the weekend and talk about perfect timing! My BB won't stop buzzing with emails, I have music to produce, restaurants to curate, DJ sets to finish and all in the before Friday when I fly out to DR to spin at a beach party. Life is going fast right now and I have no intention on slowing up. Anyways, Ryan says this is a pensive tape but for those [...]

We invite you to, somethin epic y'all know? Where we hustle out of a sense of hopelessness Sort of a desperation Through that desperation, we 'come addicted Sorta like the fiends we accustomed to servin But we feel we have nothin to lose (everything to gain) So we offer you, well, we offer our lives What do you [...]
Welcome September - Asides from back to school (for some of us, ha!) this week has been pretty uplifting between an electrified zoo weekend, and a fashion filled week. Maybe it's just a change of season, but there's something different in the air. The warm days of summer are starting to go away, but don't be sad my friends, chillin is for all seasons! Hangin' on the corner, lookin' real sporty Coolin' with the fellas while downin' a 40 Nothing to do, just killin' time [...]

Around this time last week I was cruising around in the Dominican Republic with my boy Saloman from ShaveUrLegz.com, the weather was amazing and then Salo played this jam and man did it take over the moment... This time, this time I'm gonna try it my. I'm gonna live it my way..." All my life I've this overwhelming vision of a life lived without settling, a custom made, tailer fitted experience I could look back at with a smile. One of my all time favorite songs is Sinatra's My [...]
