I wanna be your friend

I wanna be your friend Friend crushes...Story of my life.  Although now the friend crush is on the Brooklyn band 'Friends' and the issue is something they know all about. I'm a little delayed on catching on to this track, but better late than never. This is one of the most brilliantly haunting, sultry and moody tracks I've heard in a long time. An absolute winner on all levels. Friends - Friend Crush x

Thats Not What Your Body Said

Thats Not What Your Body Said Dare you not to dance. This is danceable indie music at its absolute BEST. Turn it up loud and the beat will actually make your ear drums pulsate. As all good music should do in my opinion. Or at least it was, until I developed tinnitus... Gobble Gobble - Boring Horror (Sundance Remix) x

Samson’s set me on fire

Samson’s set me on fire "I couldn't sleep last night, my head was so full of you" Sidney Samson went from relatively unknown to household name with the massive 2009/2010 anthem 'Riverside'  and hes gone from strength to strength ever since. Producing some of the best commerical remixes of 2010 / 2011 so far, hes become a staple ingredient to the majority of my sets of late. Rihanna's "S&M", David Guetta's "Commander" and Martin Solvieg's "Hello" have all benefitted from the Samson treatement and now he's got a new original to light up this years summer season. "Set me on fire" features [...]

Someone Like You

Adele Performs "Someone Like You" at Home for MSN Music
Still waiting for a performance of this song to not make me want to cry a little bit... Shot at her home by MSN Music, this one is a real beaut... x

1000 Minutes Part 34

1000 Minutes Part 34 The further I get into this project, the more infrequent the posts appear to get without intention. I fear infact that its been dragging on so long now that the majority of people reading this definitely won't have been with me from the start. If this is the case, have a little peak at this LINK to get an idea of why I'm babbling on in such a nostalgic manner. I promise, PROMISE, that I'll make more headway on this project this week... 119. The Cure - Pictures of you [4:48] [...]

Lucy Swann

Lucy Swann "Put me to bed, tuck me in, so I can go to asleep again" Now this is one of lifes great accidental discoveries. I was browsing the website for this years Great Escape festival when a name popped out at me. Lucy Swann is not an artist I'd previously heard of, infact its the name of an ex-girlfriend / very good friend of mine, so of course my first thought was, "what the?!". Luckily the confusion didn't last long because as memory serves, the Lucy I know is pretty much tone deaf (sorry if you're reading [...]

Don Rimini ‘The Perfect Prescription’

Don Rimini ‘The Perfect Prescription’ Don Rimini is a man I have always had the biggest of musical respect for, one of the best DJs / Producers to come out of the French electro scene, hes a man whose taste should always be trusted. So when news of his next compilation mix hit me, I knew it would provide me with some instant new favourites. With 'The Perfect Prescription' Don has collated a selection new solid dancefloor tracks that have touched him in the last twelve months. Nothing here is obvious, nothing is subtle and everything is a winner. From jackin' house, to rave, [...]

Hurts – Brighton Dome

Hurts – Brighton Dome Considering I had been planning to attend last nights gig for a few months now I was slightly concerned that I was going to be left feeling disappointed, not because I have grown bored of Hurts and definitely not through lack of confidence in their ability as a live band, but because of my own listening behaviour. Bearing in mind that I've had their album on repeat since I bought it and that I'd been prepping my curiousity all week with live videos on youtube, I'd say there was a pretty high chance of me destroying it for myself through my own hype.Luckily however, this didn't happen. Not [...]

Foster The People

Foster The People One of my favourite tracks of last summer appeared to come out of absolutely nowhere. 'Pumped Up Kicks' by Foster The People was an completely accidental find for me, which came out putting Hype Machine on random - One of the reasons I absolutely adore that site. (Check out my original post on the band back in February last year HERE ) Lots of questions followed...Who are Foster The People? Why can I find hardly anything about them online? Why haven't they got any other tracks floating around? Well, on January 18th those questions were answered, [...]

Hot As Hell

Hot As Hell Last Monday, I heard 'Americano' drop in a club I was in and actually felt a little ill. It may sound pretentious, but one thing I hate about the dance vs. mainstream music club culture is that you discover a song and 6-8 months later you're still hearing it recycled by DJ's that can be heard slurring to their mates "have you heard this yet?". Through no fault of its own, its only a song afterall, 'Americano' now reminds me of those people and I feel an instant hatred whenever I hear it kick in. The song I'm about [...]

Hello

Hello "I could stick around and get along with you, hello / It doesn't really mean that I'm into you, hello" Sometimes songs just hit you instantly, you know that on first listen that you need them in your collection. Other times though, they float on past you and then several weeks, months or even years later they swim past your ears again and you wonder why you didn't feel it as much on first listen as you do now. The latter happened to me with this track. Over the last few months my love for dance [...]

Lovesong

Lovesong It takes alot for a cover version to make an impact on me and it also takes alot for me to blog about the same artist more than once in one day. So for those two reasons alone, you can be assured that Adele's cover of one of the greatest ever love songs ever written (in my opinion), 'Lovesong' by The Cure is pretty damn special. Wow. x

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our street Finally, there's something to get excited about. ' My House ', the latest offering from Hercules and the Love Affair has been doing the rounds for a little while now (check out the video for the original edit below), but now we a fantastically minimal edit from a friend of mine that is pretty much keeping the London club scene alive right now, Stopmakingme. This really is a treat for the ears, after all what is there not to love about a good scatman like acapella break? (4:16). Enjoy. [...]

Rolling In The Deep, Still

Rolling In The Deep, Still By now, we've all become obsessed with the Jamie XX edit of "Rolling In The Deep", Adele's first single from her follow up album, '212. If you haven't, then do yourself a favour and go find it. For now however, take a moment to digest the new twist given by Voodoo Farm who sprinkle on a little ingredient called Hip Hop with the help of Jay-z and Biggy. Adele - Rolling in the Deep (Voodoo Farm Mix) ( YSI ) x

Take Me Over

Take Me Over I can't explain how much I have missed this band. Cut Copy have been one of the most important influences on my music taste in the last ten years and the release of 'Zonoscope' on February the 7th cannot come quick enough. As a little taster of things to come, sit back and let this one wash over you, the drop at the halfway mark is an absolute gem. " This mix was designed for a new futuristic main room that fits over the top of the old main room [...]

You’ve got me on my knees

You’ve got me on my knees "All I can picture is held hands, coming apart" One of the most beautiful tracks I've heard in a long, long time. "Knees" is from the 'Clothes, Friends, Photos' EP - which is set to be a beaut of a collaborative record featuring Peter Lyons and Kerry Leatham. We're being promised 6 tracks, all home recorded and we should expect it to arrive in March through Tape Club Records. Counting down the next month and a half much? [...]

1000 Minutes Part 33

1000 Minutes Part 33 Here we are again with installment 33. I'm not feeling particularly witty or insightful today, possibly the Christmas comedown, so I'm just going to get straight on in rather than bore you with a meaningless introduction. If however, you wish I had as you have no idea what this project is about, follow this here LINK and all your prayers will be answered... 115. Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me [4:45] [ time remaining 564:26 ] ( Mediafire ) ( YSI ) This is the second entry for J.E.W in [...]

Matanza

Matanza This bad boy has been keeping my feet tapping all over my Christmas break. If your ears are screaming for a break from Mariah Carey and Slade and your body is begging for a beat that will help it work off those extra mince pies, here's your answer. Released on Anabatic last week, The Amerindio EP boasts two original tracks aswell as remixes by Worthy and Jet Project. Stroll on down to Beatport now and make the purchase. Matanza - Lluvia (Original Mix) x

FEMALE TAKEOVER

FEMALE TAKEOVER So this is the ultimate of fit. This is the female version of Tinchy Stryder's 'Game Over' and it features a stellar line up of female MCs including Ruff Diamondz, Adot, Envy, CherriV, BabyBlue, RoxXxan, Lioness, Mz Bratt and Lady Leshurr. Thanks to the Chap at Hyped Up for linking me up with this little gem. Female Takeover - Game Over ( YSI ) x

Dancing Queen

Dancing Queen Releasing two EPs and a full length containing them and enough new tracks to make a third EP in six months is a pretty impressive move for an artist generally. But ensuring that all of these releases are the quality that Robyn's have been in 2010 is incredible. I can honestly say that I thought this year was going to be abit of a letdown from Robyn, but I have been proven wrong with every single, every EP and the final full length, Body Talk. With Diplo on board, Dancehall Queen was never going to disappoint really, but [...]
