Foals - Olympic Airways (Ewan Pearson's Return To The Villa Of Joy Remix)

Foals - Olympic Airways (Ewan Pearson's Return To The Villa Of Joy Remix) Boy do we miss Foals here at Mahogany. There hasn't been a more experimental and enjoyable debut album for a long time - it was essentially one continuous piece of music that had to be split up due to label demands. I know they're making their second album as we speak which makes the hairs on my back stand up just thinking about it. Until then here's an incredibly chilled Ewan Pearson remix which remains true to the song but adds an 'ibiza chillout' sound - hence 'Return To The Villa'. Download [...]

Officially addicted to The Wire

Officially addicted to The Wire OK so I just spent Easter Weekend watching Season 1 of The Wire from back to back and I'm straight up addicted, regardless of whether I'm slightly lost at times. It's going to be very anti-social weekend as Seasons 2,3,4 and 5 are almost complete! Now the show doesn't rely too heavily on a score or soundtrack which I prefer but every now and then they choose tracks that fit perfectly with the gritty and unforgiving Baltimore scene. The last episode of Season 1 ends with a track by a old American singer named Jesse Winchester [...]

Bloc Party - Intimacy Remixed

Bloc Party - Intimacy Remixed Intimacy was one of the best albums released in 2008 and the proof that Bloc Party are able to reinvent themselves whilst staying true to their indie roots. Their first album, Silent Alarm, had been remixed (by Ladytron, M83, among others) and Intimacy just received the same treatment. We loved the original gloomy version of Signs and Armand Van Helden made it a very danceable tune. Make sure you check the video below! Kele and his bandmates played two sold-out gigs last weekend in London, and are about to tour America. Download [...]

Imogen Heap - Headlock (High Contrast Remix)

Imogen Heap - Headlock (High Contrast Remix) High Contrast loves to put his hands all over today's chart music and this one (be it old) is gorgeous. It even tastes nice. Imogen Heap's original track Headlock has been taken to new levels - he must have spent hours working on mixing the vocals. Immense. Download Imogen Heap - Headlock (High Contrast Remix)

This single is massive and is almost guaranteed a number 1 spot in the UK charts this Sunday and all the remixes so far have proved to be BIG. Coeur de Pirate

Coeur de Pirate We recently discovered the music-antichrist version of Céline Dion and we thought you might like it too. Coeur de Pirate ("Pirate's Heart". Yes, we do speak French) hails from Montréal and has already seduced her homeland. Béatrice Martin (her real name) was nominated for Francophone Album Of The Year at the Juno Awards 2009. She's getting some media attention in France with her piano-based compositions and warm voice. Even Perez Hilton mentioned her on his blog... The lady's set to make it big. Always good to hear some sweet tunes, and she'll be touring Canada and France over [...]

Daniel - The Remixes

Daniel - The Remixes We've got some pretty decent remixes of Daniel, the first single from the new album by the incredibly talented Natasha Khan aka Bat For Lashes. Death Metal Disco and Duke Dumont have laid their production claws all over the single - the original (check out our previous post ) needs no remix of any kind as it's such a rich and full sound but there's no harm in hearing some electro/dub fused interpretations. Bat For Lashes on stage would be immense so if you get a chance to go to any of the shows below [...]

Alessi's Ark

Alessi's Ark Mercury-nominated Alessi Laurent-Marke is making gentle waves with her peaceful sounds - she recently signed to EMI after her Myspace attracted a huge audience and we're not far off from hearing for debut album. Hailing from Hammersmith, London - Alessi left school at 16 to pursue her music career and with her parents backing she developed her subtle pop infused folky voice. The track we're focusing on here is Over The Hill which is to be the first single released on the 27th April. There are all kinds of sounds swirling in the song with hints [...]

Bombay Bicycle Club - Always Like This

Bombay Bicycle Club - Always Like This Who? Bombay Bicycle Club return with their new single Always Like This. They've been heads down in the studio working on the debut album for months after playing a years worth of gigs and festivals in Europe throughout their Sixth Form days. Now they've all left Sixth Form and I hope none of them are considering University anytime soon as this a raw talent. I've got my tickets for the KCLSU gig in London on the 13th and they're still available from Seetickets . What? [...]

Chiddy Bang - Kids ft. MGMT

Chiddy Bang - Kids ft. MGMT Who? Philly based group Chiddy Bang are bringing some seriously good vibes with this little cover - it seems like along with Asher Roth we're getting a nice taste of college rap for the early Spring. PMA scooped these boys early on - they seem to be keen on the covers previously doing Radiohead's 'Because' - What's next I wonder?? What? Class A remix of MGMT's Kids - it's hip-hop take on the track is refreshing after all the electro-remixes (which we love all the same). [...]

Jump Smokers - My Flow So Tight (Chris Brown Should Get His Ass Kicked)

Jump Smokers - My Flow So Tight (Chris Brown Should Get His Ass Kicked) Who? Jump Smokers are C.W. Griz, Reydon, V-Scratch and Johnny Digital from Chicago who recently made a great little club track which is a pure diss on Chris Brown. CW Griz and Co will be donating profits from the track to charities that support victims of domestic violence. Now that's what I'm talking about. W hat? Finally someone has come out with a track about that whole wife-beating fiasco that happened a while back. The song is very radio friendly and many [...]

Little Shadow Set

Little Shadow Set Who? Here are a couple of boys from North London with a hell of a lot of potential. They played as a band N.N.Y. (No Name Yet) a couple of years ago but put playing on hiatus for one reason or another. They're back now with a slightly different sound and a focus on recording professionally. What? Their new Myspace tracks are up after a year long absence from what was traditionally a chorus-heavy indie band. I Don't Want To Do and Load are [...]

Asher Roth - I Love College

Asher Roth - I Love College Who? New kid on the block Asher Roth is bringing a middle-class flavour to rap in the US and if I was 16 years old again this song would have been my summer soundtrack. I don't really know how to handle Asher Roth - Do I like him or not? So far I like him. What? I like the track enough to put it on the blog but I'll want to hear the album fully when it drops. I hope it's a light-hearted take [...]

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix Who? Hailing from France, Phoenix have been around for quite some time but have only come to the mainstream eye of the UK and the US in recent weeks with their single, 1901, from their upcoming album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. They've been doing the rounds since 1999 and formed even earlier than that - with strong ties personal ties to Daft Punk and Kitsune they're definitely pushing in the right direction. What? The album is a lovely 9-track record which is best described as a electronic [...]

The Golden Silvers - True Romance (True No.9 Blues)

The Golden Silvers - True Romance (True No.9 Blues) Congratulations Carli (manager for Golden Silvers) - You've found a truly original band that have recently signed to XL Recordings. The album isn't out yet but I was sent a copy - it's a great little record. The new single True Romance (True No.9 Blues) is on my list for best tracks of 2009 already! I'm not going to post up an mp3 just yet - I'll just give you the video!

Jack Peñate - Tonight's Today

Jack Peñate - Tonight's Today The new single is just about to be released officially although it's been around for months - the main reason I posted this up is because of the video directed by Alma Har'el. The video is bizarre but incredibly artistic - I wonder how Jack reacted when he was told he had to kiss a guy! The album is being produced by legend Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Florence & The Machine and The Rakes to name but a few) who also produced Tonight's Today. His first album was great during the huge Indie music [...]
